Chapter 144-A circus
"When did our house turn into the hotspot for drama?" Aeltharion took a step back and glanced at his home, which looked like a live-in zoo.
"Hey, Aelthie, Ssese has an idea about how we can save Rhysandor," Nytherael walked in hand in hand with Sseraphis.
The two stop at the disturbing silence from their lover. They looked at him for a full-on minute before they glanced at their house.
"What’s wrong?"
"You look pale," Sseraphis pointed out.
Aeltharion scratched his neck. After seeing it, he couldn’t unsee it. It was impossible to imagine. That would’ve never happened in their first home.
Beasts feared Sseraphis. They couldn’t outmatch Nytherael and always assumed he was domineering and too cold to get along with. Now, however, they were surrounded by every corner.
"What are you looking at?" Nytherael struggled to see what was so captivating that Aeltharion couldn’t hear them.
Aeltharion narrowed his eyes at the sight. Shaking his head in disbelief. The horror of how comfortable the rest of the world was getting with them was astounding.
With the rest of the world being family members who previously preferred staying as far away from them as possible.
"Since when did our house become a circus?"
"You noticed too? I thought I was being paranoid because I am just not a beast beast," Sseraphis sighed. Relief washing over him at the fact that he wasn’t the only one who noticed.
"What are you both talking about?" Nytherael asked. He positioned himself between them to get a clearer view and see what all the fuss about. Even after three to four looks, he still couldn’t see it. "Where’s the clown?" He asked innocently.
Aeltharion and Sseraphis shared a look and then instantly stared at him in unified movement. "If you find yourself asking where the clown is in a circus..." Sseraphis started and paused.
"...then the clown is most certainly you," Aeltharion added.
Nytherael gave a side eye to both of them. He asked an innocent question since he didn’t get the reference. Instead of clearing the situation for him, they ganged up to insult him right to his face.
"And what role are you both playing?"
"I think I’m the circus master," Aeltharion proudly stated.
Sseraphis brushed his hair off his shoulder to the back and confirmed, "I’m definitely the uninterested beast in the audience wondering when this nightmare will run its course so that we can get back some normal."
"I still don’t get it."
"Here," Aeltharion held hid shoulder and turned him toward the east wing of the house, "Sseraphis’ brother Ssoren and the beast attached to his side are staying there."
Nytherael frowned. His brows knit together. "You mean, Kyan?"
Sseraphis scratched behind his ear. "That’s what his name is... I just called him "You there" and hoped he wouldn’t ask me whether or not I remembered his name."
Nytherael held his breath and gave Sseraphis another side eye, a dangerous one that called him out for how unreal he was about not recalling his brother’s mate’s name.
Sseraphis lifted his hands in surrender. "In my defence, there are way more beasts in the house than usual. I’m just getting used to us three again. You’re going to have to give me some time with other beasts," he said with a straight face.
Nytherael shook his head. He was done trying to beastinize the life out of Sseraphis and make him a beast beast. The snake was never going to let his heart open for more beasts, at least not in the near future.
"What is your excuse for not knowing Kyan’s name?" He questioned Aeltharion.
Aeltharion bit his lip. Thinking of a good excuse to give that would justify not knowing the name of a beast enjoying living in his house without paying rent.
"I have been busy taking care of you."
"You’ve known him way before I needed twenty four hour care, lightning," Nytherael raised his eyebrow at the lame excuse.
Kyan had been in their lives since they rescued Sseraphis from Hadrian and way before Rhysandor died and left him a walking mess.
It was strange that both Aeltharion and Sseraphis hadn’t taken a minute to get to know him or his relationship with Ssoren.
"You’re both unbelievable," he said.
"Well, how about her? Do you know her?" Sseraphis pointed to the west wing of the house.
There, Ssirel, whom Nytherael hadn’t seen since their last stay in their house in Ocov and Fior, were bickering, and beside them was a new face that Nytherael hadn’t seen before.
"I think she’s Ssirel’s new bride. I might’ve run into her in the kitchen at some point, and she greeted me, but my mind was too far away to notice," he said.
Sseraphis chilled. "Wait? Bride? Ssirel’s bride?" He was stunned. He straightened his back and took another look at the female his brother brought to his home. "What do you mean, bride?"
"Shouldn’t I be asking you... you opened the door for them and let them in, did you not?"
"He did," Aeltharion contributed. Meanwhile, he, too, was scratching his face. Not once had he taken a chance to talk to Fior or Ssirel after their arrival. He pointed to empty rooms for them and rushed off.
It was never to him that Ssirel had gotten married. An unpleasant news as it meant that the female was a permanent resident of their house, and he couldn’t ask her to leave since she’s his sister-in-law.
"Okay, anyone else got a partner without telling us?" Sseraphis raised his hands again in surrender.
His mind was slowly coming around to accept Sheana and Aenyra being together, but the rest of the beasts also getting mate’s and brides, which was too much for his brain cells to handle.
Not that he lacked the brain storage capacity to understand, but he lacked the emotional capability to care about so many new characters.
"I need a vocation," he let out a long exaggerated sigh and squatted down to the ground. "What if we travel to western Skyrift and built a hou..."
"No!" Nytherael and Aeltharion shut the idea down instantly.
They had too many houses already. Building one more was going to be a waste of materials and space that they’d probably never occupy for longer than three months.
"The whole point of being rich and married to rich beasts is to be able to build as many homes as I want in as many places as I want," he argued. "And the whole point of the being the cutest is that you both aren’t legally allowed to say no to me," he continued.
He looked up with a serious expression at his fox and his dragon. "You’re breaking the law right now," he stated. "I am obligated to sue you for that. Do you want a summon from the beast court?" He waved his eyebrows up and down in a challenging manner.
"I’m shaking in my boots," Nytherael said flatly.
Aeltharion chimed in, "However shall I save myself?"
Sseraphis rolled his eyes and their flat response. His eyes landed up ahead at the seaside. His partner in crime was sitting in the sand while gazing at the sun while behind her, Sheana stood awkwardly. It looked like she wanted to say something but didn’t have the courage to do so.
He sighed again. Any other beast with a heart would feel for them and try to help. He just felt emotionally exhausted.
"What about Yiwa and Tivnir?"
"It was nice the first few days, Yiwa was recovering, and we love Yiwa, but..."
"Them being all loving and sweet with each other...that’s just wrong," Sseraphis completed Aeltharion’s sentence.
"Love is beautiful," Nytherael pointed out. "How can you have something against love?"
"It’s beautiful when it’s our love," Sseraphis commented.
"Theirs? Not as beautiful," Aeltharion agreed with his venom.
Nytherael was rendered speechless. Arguing with an uncaring snake and an unreasonable dragon was costing him brain cells.
How was their love different from other beasts love? He wanted to ask but didn’t dare to in the fear of getting a sarcastic or u feeling reply. Love is love, he was tempted to preach, however, one look at his audience and the desire died down.
Neither Sseraphis nor Aeltharion would accept such a basic known truth. They would argue with him endlessly and pointlessly until he folded and agreed with them or they called a truce with no winner and no loser.
"Ssirel, Ssoren, Aenyra and Tivnir are rich... not a rich as us but rich enough to built homes wherever and live with their companions. Why are they hellbent on living with us?" Aeltharion broke the silence.
"Mind you, three of the beasts you mentioned are family," Nytherael reminded, incase it skipped Aeltharion’s mind.
As though he didn’t catch the reminder, Sseraphis added. "Is there something different about us this time around that is inviting? I mean, I can’t imagine why else they’d all move in, uninvited and make themselves at home."
"Family doesn’t need an invite," Nytherael said an it earned him dirty side glances from his lovers. "When it comes to living arrangements that might be permanent. They most certainly do!" Aeltharion and Sseraphis said, word for word in unison.
"Okay. Well, if you’re so against it. Why don’t you ask them to leave?"
