Chapter 140-Branded beast (2)
"Stop it. Stop daydreaming, MK. No one is coming. No one will save us. No one cares enough.... Remember that and get your head out of the clouds before You get yourself killed."
"I was just..."
"Talks like that can be regarded as defiance by the Madam and the Masters. You of all people know what happens to people who are considered defiant. So please... Just stop!" Her tone came out sharper than she intended for it to.
Before Mk can give a reply, a loud call comes from outside the door. "The groom is here!"
"It’s time. Let’s go."
She opened the door and cast her peach blossom eyes at the person outside, "I, Nula, I’m ready," she said, taking the name of the unconscious bride.
It was the first name she’s ever used. She had long forgotten her birth name if she’d ever had one. At the organization, she was known as Lagara, which means dessert as she was bought there.
The organization marked beauties with the places they were bought from. It was easier for them that way and gave ease to the beauties to blend into any character they wished as they are without roots.
"Right this way."
"Yes," she followed, with Mk at her side keeping guard.
"There’s been a slight change of plans. The Madam wished for me to tell you that she’s had to disclose your identity to the groom," the person reported.
Lagara tensed, a cold chill travelling down her body. Yet her eyes remained cold and cast straight ahead.
"He was too smart to fool. So, the Madam decided to make a deal with him instead of taking the long route as previously arranged. And they reached an understanding, so you’ll be married off as Lagara from now on. Do you understand."
"Yes," her voice calmed, hiding the storm in her soul.
"Good."
The person led her to the wedding chamber. When she walked in, she noticed that other than the two of them, only two other figures were in the room.
"I will take my leave," the one who guided her in, exited the room.
"You are Lagara?"
She nodded, kept her eyes on the ground. "I am."
"I’m your groom, Ssirel Noxveil, " Ssirel stepped closer and offered her his hand.
Lagara raised her hand to shake his before the other male in the room intervened and clasped a hand over the one stretched out to her.
Ssirel raised an eyebrow and frowned. "I thought I told you not to follow me."
He went to withdraw his hand, but Fior intertwined their fingers and held on tightly. He let out an awkward, dry laugh. "I’m sorry about hurting Sseraphis..."
Ssirel’s expression didn’t change. In fact, it only hardened further.
"I’m sorry. I told Hadrian that Sseraphis was wounded and was at the underwater palace..."
"Are you actually sorry you did those things? ...or just sorry that you got caught?"
Fior’s smile froze.
Ssirel took Lagara’s hand in his and held her gaze. "You’re an outcast black phoenix, right?"
Lagara nodded.
"Then, let’s complete the wedding ceremony. Don’t worry, I’ll treat you well once you become my wife."
Fior rolled his eyes. "Don’t bother having hope on being treated well by him. Unless you’re me, you’ll be neglected throughout your marriage and discarded the minute his anger towards me vanishes," he said bitterly.
Ssirel glared at him. "None of your business," he let out. "Don’t you hate it when she mind yours. I’m washing my hands clean from now. You’re free to leave."
"I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s not like you’re a Saint yourself, so..."
"Just leave."
"Have you ever left when I asked you too? Why should I?"
Fior insisted on sticking around. He walked right between them, breaking their hand holding and went up to the wedding bed. He plopped down, rested his head on his palm, and glanced at them.
"I’ll be the witness to this joke of a wedding," he faked a polite smile.
Ssirel heaved, he took Lagara’s hand again and took her to share the wedding wine and make the beast oath.
Lagara said nothing the whole time and let Ssirel lead her. Her eyes were on the floor. She didn’t dare steal a glance at her new husband or the rude beast on the bed.
The aura coming off of them was enough for her to understand what Mk meant when he said her groom was powerful. They were more powerful than her by miles.
"Would you like to share the wine first or take the vows first?" Ssirel asked while pouring the two cups of wine for them to share.
Lagara reached out for the cup of wine, obediently and without a word.
"Wine," Fior said. He lifted his hand, and the cup slipped through Lagara’s hands and flew over to his. He raised the cup to Ssirel and toasted, "Cheers!" He drank it all at once.
Ssirel sighed. Frustration building inside of him at Fior’s childish tricks. He felt annoyed.
"That’s fine. We can share one cup."
Ssirel took a sip of the wine and presented the cup to Lagara, Fior flicked his finger in the air, the power that travelled out of his move shattered the cup and the wine poured onto Lagara’s wedding dress.
"Oops! My bad!"
"It’s fine," Lagara let out. There was no hint of offence in her tone. "Master must be angry. I don’t mind."
"What a nice doormat... then, don’t mind it when I wipe the mud on my shoes on you."
"Fior!" Ssirel slammed his hand on the table.
Fior feigned a shiver. His golden eyes met Ssirel’s green eyes fiercely. ’How long do you intend to throw a tantrum?’
’None of your business. Why are you suddenly interested in what I’m doing? Why do you care? And why are you hellbent on annoying me?’
"I feel like it," he put to words. "Blame yourself for seeing things that you shouldn’t."
Ssirel ignored him. "Let’s take the vows."
"Alright," Lagara agreed.
Just then, Fior raised his finger, and Lagara’s lips were sealed together. She couldn’t let out a single word.
"She had such a boring voice. Why do you want to listen to it... I’ll take the vows with you if you want?"
"I’d rather take vows with a stone," Ssirel fired in anger. "Stop causing trouble. It’s not funny anymore."
Fior rose from the bed slowly. His movements were deliberately slow as he approached.
Ssirel watched him with lazy eyes. The anger in his heart deepened. He had known that Fior wasn’t an angel and loved the little moments he found him being his true self, but targeting his brother, that was out of question for him.
Right now, Fior was the last person he wanted to see or talk to. He couldn’t turn a blind eye to Fior’s devious intentions with his brother. Blood was his line, one that he can’t allow any beast to cross.
"Are you sure you’d prefer a stone to me?" Fior asked, knowing fully well that Ssirel had a soft spot for him. He always had and always will. "You wound me, Ssirel."
He wrapped his hands sensually around Ssirel’s neck while his eyes remained on Lagara. "How can branded trash from the worst side of the world compare to me? Huh?"
