Chapter 292: The Borderland
Alexander leaned back against the leather seat, staring at the scrolling text as the holographic screens vanished. There was no escaping this. They knew everything, down to the exact second he had helped those alien entities cross the perimeter. He stopped asking questions, closing his eyes as the realization settled in, he was trapped in their web.
Suddenly, the armored transport slowed down.
Alexander looked out the window. The outskirts of the city grid began to blur and warp, the reality distorting like a broken mirage. In an instant, the concrete highway vanished. A massive, breathtaking complex of sprawling luxury mansions materialized out of the thin air, surrounded by lush, foreign vegetation and protected by a shimmering sky. It was the exact same spatial cloaking technology the extraterrestrials had used to hide their outpost—but scaled up to a staggering, monumental size.
The vehicle glided to a halt at the grand entrance of a massive estate that looked more like a modern fortress than a house. The automated door slid open.
Alexander stepped out onto the pristine driveway, his boots crunching on the stone. A familiar figure in a crisp, elegant uniform stepped forward, bowing gracefully. It was Elena, the maid who had managed his private quarters back at the high-security TMC hotel.
"Elena?" Alexander asked, his brow furrowing. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"I was transferred, though it would be more accurate to say I was promoted," Elena said, offering a warm, respectful smile. "I am grateful for this opportunity, Lord Alexander. I promise I will work my hardest. From this day forward, I will serve as your personal secretary. All the individuals tied to your network are already inside, waiting for your arrival."
Alexander looked around the massive estate, his jaw tightening. "Tell me what’s going on, Elena. What is this place?"
"You don’t know, Master?" Elena asked, her expression turning serious as she gestured toward the shimmering horizon. "This sector is known as The Borderland."
She stepped closer, her voice dropping into a quiet, reverent tone.
"Nearly a thousand years ago, a massive spatial fissure was discovered here, connecting our world to a separate realm," Elena narrated. "When the first expeditions explored the other side, they found unimaginable resources. But they realized they weren’t alone. They encountered hostile forces, leading to brutal conflicts that triggered massive, historic wars. Over the centuries, several powerful organizations established permanent strongholds on the other side. The realm is so vast and infinite that no faction tries to monopolize it anymore; they cooperate to maintain stability. It is rumored that a supreme group rules over all the factions from the shadows, but low-ranking people like us will ever come into contact with them."
"Are we considered strong?" Alexander asked, his eyes tracking the shimmering barrier above.
"I have never been allowed inside this sector before, Master," Elena said. "I will investigate as soon as possible to answer all your questions. I received specialized training, and while you are deployed, I will be designated as your direct contact in that other world, granting me high-tier information access. If you have any other questions, I will note them down and find the answers."
Alexander nodded. He couldn’t force answers out of her, so he had to move forward. "Let’s go inside. I want to see everything they gave me."
When he stepped through the doors, the sight inside the massive foyer made him stop. Marcus was sitting on a sofa bruised and bloodied, while a private TMC doctor administered specialized healing serums to accelerate his recovery.
"It really is you," Marcus muttered, looking up at Alexander with a strained grunt.
Standing a few feet away, Jessica and Ashley were watching the exchange. The realization hit them like a physical blow. The pieces clicked together—this wasn’t a sudden romance, nor was it a chance encounter. Marcus had sent Alexander to them from the very beginning. A sharp bitterness began to take root in their hearts as they realized their entire relationship had been built on a lie.
Meanwhile, his aunt Helen and his cousin Amy stood in the corner bewildered and terrified. Just hours ago, a squad of ten armed men had breached Helen’s luxury hotel right while she was relaxing by the pool. She had screamed, thinking it was a kidnapping, as the hotel security guards tried to intervene only to be beaten down in seconds. They had dragged her to a waiting military helicopter. The exact same terrifying scene had played out for Amy, who had been pulled out of her classroom in front of hundreds of students.
Sitting more relaxed on another set of plush sofas were the remaining women from Alexander’s life. Aria Ashfold was still wrapped in thick medical bandages, her breathing shallow but stable, while Serena Gable and her daughter Evelyn sat beside her, speaking in hushed, soothing tones. Isabella was there too, keeping a protective, silent vigil over the group.
They had already been briefed on the situation by the TMC handlers. Furthermore the organization had promised them that Aria would receive an instantaneous, full recovery using high-tier medical technology from the other side of the fissure. TMC possessed the exact medical logs showing Alexander’s desperate desire to heal Aria, and they had already prepared everything to execute the treatment.
In the opposite corner of the grand hall, Ben and Leo stood with fear. During the two days Alexander had been missing, they had kept up their routine, going to Stephen’s gym to train. They had been in the middle of using the advanced virtual reality training machines when the world around them shifted. TMC had intercepted the terminal feeds, locked down the pods, and transported them into the hidden sector without making a sound.
TMC was tying up every loose end. By dragging his family, his disciples, his lovers, and his allies into this fortified sector, they had mixed all of his personal interests into one basket. He was given absolute luxury, his wealth was secured, and his deepest wish to heal Aria was being granted—but the price was absolute, inescapable control. He was under their thumb, and they had made sure he had everything to lose if he failed his deployment.
