Chapter 1094: 81. Pollution
The mouthpart closed.
The sound of those bones colliding made one's teeth ache. Beneath that tremendous force, even a true beast would probably be crushed directly into meat paste.
"Serves you right!"
The person in the lead grinned as he admired this miserable scene.
"This is the end of anyone who blasphemes the Goddess!"
How overconfident.
Although this fellow had appeared from who knew where, he clearly did not know how seriously they regarded the destruction of this forest district.
Among those who could join this small team, which one of them did not carry a blessing from the Goddess of Night and possess great power that could let them fight ten alone?
A mere single person wanted to stop them? He was far too naive!
"You should be grateful that the one executing you is Riftfang. He can let you die cleanly. If the High Priest were here, he would surely make you receive divine punishment from the Goddess directly. That would be an experience worse than death," the person in the lead said with a chuckle.
"So... standing behind you is that so-called High Priest?"
"Hmph. The High Priest's name is not something you..."
"Huh?"
The voice of the person in the lead froze again.
Beneath the black robe, five eyes turned.
He almost thought he was hallucinating. But what kind of hallucination could deceive him, protected by the blessing of the Goddess of Night?
Right before his eyes, the blasphemer who should have been swallowed in one bite by Riftfang had actually appeared in the field again. And he looked so composed. After undergoing such a life-and-death surprise attack, not even the corner of his clothes had been dirtied.
"This... how is this possible?"
The person in the lead felt as if even his breathing was about to stop. Even he himself might not be able to easily dodge Riftfang's move. How could this blasphemer possibly...
This was unscientific!
"Another one of these bizarre, twisted appearances. As expected of evil believers?"
Muen did not care about the others' shock. He stood beside Riftfang, propping up his chin as he carefully examined this freak.
The strange body type this fellow had displayed just now came from these disproportionate bones in front of its chest. The bones pierced out from both sides of its chest, making it look like a mosquito being preyed upon by a Venus flytrap. Apart from that, its body had already shriveled into a complete mess. Its entire person was able to keep from losing balance only by relying on those deformed bones for support.
It looked very much like an evil believer.
But the only problem was...
"As an evil believer, aren't you a little too weak?"
Muen reached out, grabbed one of Riftfang's bones, and shook it hard.
Creak...
Amid the violent tremor, those bones immediately twisted and deformed. The enormous bone frame swayed on the verge of collapse, and Riftfang's expression also became pained. Its withered limbs began struggling violently.
Muen shook it casually like that, not even enough to count as using Thunderclap, yet Riftfang had no room to resist at all. The sharp bone spurs tried to launch another surprise attack at Muen, but they could not even pierce his skin.
Those deformed bones were very quickly crushed by Muen with raw force.
Riftfang fell to the ground. Having lost the support of its bones, at this moment it was no different from a puddle of rotten mud.
"Hiss..."
This unexpected reversal left the black-robed people who had come to cause trouble frozen in place. They kept sucking in cold breaths, as if the phrase "so terrifying" was about to come out of their mouths...
In the end, the person in the lead was still the first to react.
"No, this fellow isn't simple. He should be outside support invited by Meg Mace. Very likely, he's from the City-State United Development Association. Don't hold back. Attack together!"
The black robes used as disguise were torn away in one motion.
Immediately afterward, a full five eyes revealed resolute gazes at the same time and met Muen's strange expression.
Muen found it very difficult to describe that bizarre feeling. On a person's face, aside from five eyes, there was nothing else. More importantly, the positions of those eyes were not regular at all. It was like a lump of dough inlaid with eyes had been kneaded casually, kneaded until those eyes were all pressed together.
His vocal organ was at his throat. There was a round mouthpart there, as if it were the feeding organ of some worm. Muen found it very difficult to imagine that this kind of thing could actually speak human words too.
And apart from the head, his body was also incomplete. His left hand was some kind of mechanical structure, while his right hand was close to rotting. White bone could be seen inside the pitch-black flesh. His body could not be considered thin or weak, but between his lower half and upper half, there was only a spine like a centipede, still constantly trembling, connecting them.
With a click, sharp claws sprang out from the mechanical structure. The five gazes of this person in the lead also changed from resolute to vicious.
Then came the others.
The person responsible for keeping watch had an enormous belly, like a pregnant woman. But when he lifted his black robe, what was being nurtured inside was clearly not any infant. Through the constantly writhing belly skin, countless insects could be clearly seen crawling back and forth inside. It was disgusting to the extreme.
The person responsible for handling the magic threads had over a dozen hands, yet only four looked relatively normal. The other dozen or so seemed underdeveloped, hanging from his body like chicken claws, occasionally spasming a few times. The remaining four hands each held some rusty knives and swords. When he swung them, the wind roared fiercely, clearly some tetanus style learned from who knew where.
The person responsible for using the instrument looked the most normal from the outside, seemingly an ordinary human. But when he reached inside to take things out, Muen discovered that he had directly lifted open his own skin.
Beneath the skin, it was hollow and empty.
"They really are... each distinctive in appearance."
Muen sighed from the bottom of his heart.
Every one of them looked far too imaginative. Even among the many evil believers Muen had seen before, these people's appearances could be considered especially "delicate and handsome."
Painful to look at.
They had not even begun fighting yet, but this posture alone was enough to make a person want to retreat.
If this had been before, upon seeing so many strange-type evil believers pouncing toward him, Muen's first thought would definitely have been to run, collapse, sell out, and slip away first. After all, with his experience in this field, the more a fellow looked like it would make one's SAN drop, the more terrifying its combat strength would be.
But now...
"It's still the same question."
Muen did not even raise Elizabeth in his hand. He only stretched out one finger and lightly tapped the pure-white blade.
A faint ripple nearly impossible to see with the naked eye spread outward with Muen at its center.
Puff.
Puff.
Puff.
Puff.
Several soft sounds like bubbles being popped echoed almost imperceptibly through this sparse forest.
These evil believers pouncing toward him had not even made any effective attack before they fell to the ground at the same time.
They lay on the ground, their limbs twitching, staring in greater and greater horror at Muen not far away. No matter how many eyes they had, at this moment they all revealed a clear look of disbelief.
It was not that they had already disgraced themselves to the point where they could fall down just from running.
Rather, before they even had time to close in on Muen, an invisible blade light had passed through them and split them...
In two with a single slash.
"How... how is this possible?"
The narrow mouthpart at the throat of the person in the lead wriggled continuously, letting out a hoarse voice as if he had seen a ghost.
"You actually cut all of us down at once... Just who exactly are you? The City-State United Development Association has hidden someone like you, and we didn't receive the slightest information?"
"I already said I'm only an ordinary yellow-haired passerby, not some big figure."
Muen twirled the blade and slowly approached.
"Quite the opposite. I'm very interested in that so-called City-State United Development Association you mentioned. Can you explain in detail?"
"You actually don't know the City-State United Development Association?"
The person in the lead froze for a moment. Only, suspicion flashed through his eyes at the same time.
"That is the source of filth, the gathering place of blasphemers, the place the Goddess personally issued an oracle to thoroughly destroy before everything becomes irreversible. You are also a blasphemer... and you actually don't know?"
"Source? Blasphemers? Personally issued an order?"
Muen chewed over these words, and the curve of his lips gradually formed.
"This is getting more and more interesting. Now I'm truly very interested in that Goddess of Night of yours. Just what kind of existence would have believers as embarrassing as you?"
"Do not slander the great Goddess!"
The person in the lead roared.
"She is the only clear-headed existence in this caged land. Only She can guide us toward a sinless future! You blasphemer, shut your mouth!"
"Fine, I'll shut my mouth."
Muen shrugged.
"In any case, I don't have the patience to slowly chat with you here either."
"..."
The person in the lead froze again. He had not expected this unbelievably powerful fellow before him to retreat so easily. He had already prepared himself to remain unyielding even unto death. No matter what severe torture he suffered, he would absolutely not reveal even a single piece of intelligence about the great Goddess...
Could it be that what this fellow had said just now was only spoken casually?
...No.
Wrong.
That was absolutely not just spoken casually.
The person in the lead looked into Muen's eyes and discovered a trace of color he could not fathom flashing through those azure eyes.
"Please endure for a moment, everyone. It won't hurt for long."
Muen raised his hand.
Between his fingers, black flames swayed like dancing fairies.
"What... what is that?"
The few of them instinctively sensed that something was wrong and began using all their strength to wriggle the half of their bodies that remained, frantically retreating. But at this moment, how could they possibly escape Muen's palm?
The black flames drew closer and closer. It would only take a few short seconds to completely engulf them and then read the information in their souls. To Muen, the fog shrouding this unfamiliar place would most likely disperse by more than half.
There would also be no need to painstakingly collect intelligence everywhere.
It seemed that way.
But...
At the final moment, an accident... still happened, as expected.
Just as Muen was about to touch this fellow again, a stab of pain suddenly tugged at his nerves and made him stop.
"Hm?"
Muen subconsciously lowered his eyes and discovered that at some unknown point, pitch-black spots had appeared on his palm.
Those spots gradually expanded at a speed visible to the naked eye. His entire palm seemed to have been accelerated countless times by time itself and actually began rotting directly.
Stinking liquid dripped down. In less than two or three seconds, Muen could clearly see white bone on his own hand.
Then in the next instant, the white bone was likewise eroded by pitch-blackness...
"What the hell?"
Muen was horrified and did not dare delay. The black flames originally meant to burn the few fellows before him quickly curled back and enveloped his arm.
The rotten flesh and blood were instantly devoured by the black flames, and new flesh and blood rapidly regenerated. But with one sweep from the corner of his eye, Muen discovered that the same symptoms had also appeared on his other hand.
He tried to circulate fighting aura and magic to stop it, but they had no effect whatsoever. In fact, after the fighting aura and magic merged into it, the rotting posture underwent another kind of change. That stinking flesh and blood began to wriggle, and some strange deformity gradually began brewing...
Muen did not dare allow his own flesh and blood to undergo some unpredictable change, and hurriedly mobilized the black flames. Fortunately, the black flames still produced an effect, swiftly devouring those strange mutations.
In other words...
If he did not have the black flames, because of some inexplicable reason even he had not sensed, he would now have either already rotted into a pile of rotten flesh or...
Like these evil believers before him, twisted and mutated into some unknown kind of monster?
For a moment, lingering fear rose in Muen's heart.
"Pollution erosion?"
The person in the lead watched this scene and actually showed the same extreme astonishment, as if he had completely failed to anticipate this situation.
Then he suddenly reacted.
"An outsider? You're an outsider?!"
