Apocalypse Hoarder: I Have Billions in Supplies

Chapter 203 - 202: The Question of Staying or Leaving

Animals infected with the zombie virus still moved faster than humans. Jiang Si spotted a zombified moose, and it was racing toward Hot Spring Bay.

Jiang Si pulled a sniper rifle from her dimensional space, took aim at the moose, and fired.

The zombie moose fell at the crack of the shot but, a moment later, convulsed and lurched back to its feet. It started running forward again, its movements stiff and mechanical.

Jiang Si locked her sights on the zombie moose’s head. CRACK—

A clean shot. The zombie moose’s head exploded, and this time, it stayed down.

Jiang Si took a few test shots at two human zombies. The only way to put them down for good was to destroy the brain.

’At least there’s a way to kill them.’ Jiang Si’s expression grew serious. She patted Little Chun’s back. "Let’s go. Time to head back!"

With so many zombies constantly swarming toward them and their perimeter fence still unfinished, Jiang Si was worried. As they flew, her mind raced. ’Should I have everyone evacuate Hot Spring Bay immediately and head north?’

It was as if something mysterious was up there; she hadn’t seen a single zombie heading north.

Everyone had been worried while Jiang Si was scouting on Little Chun. They all breathed a collective sigh of relief when they saw him carrying her safely back into view.

Out of the corner of her eye, Jiang Si caught sight of Jiao Chunzi standing by a glass window, holding her baby and watching her.

’Now’s the time to find out if Jiao Chunzi really can control zombies.’

As soon as Jiang Si landed, everyone rushed over. They patted Little Chun and asked excitedly, "How did it feel?"

Jiang Si grinned. "It was great. So thrilling and exciting."

Bobby wanted a turn, too. He kept stroking Little Chun’s wings and even blurted out, "Fly!"

He’d said an English word. Niu Niu immediately yelled in excitement, "Bobby spoke! He spoke again!"

Jiang Si chuckled and said to Bobby, "How about you fly next time, okay? We have important things to do right now."

Bobby looked at Little Chun’s proud posture, nodded, and his face filled with anticipation for his turn.

Then, Jiang Si’s tone changed. "The zombies are heading this way. I estimate the fastest ones will be here by tomorrow."

The color drained from everyone’s faces.

"Zombies? Are there a lot of them?"

"Can we kill them with guns?"

"Does one bite make you turn?"

"If you’re not bitten, a scratch shouldn’t be enough to turn you, right?"

The questions came one after another, everyone’s fear of the zombies palpable.

Jiang Si said, "Basically, every living thing has been infected, except to the north. You can kill them with a shot to the head. If you hit any other part of the body, they’ll get right back up. A bite will turn you. A scratch probably won’t."

Previously, when Jiao Chunzi dug her nails into Zhang Aihua’s neck and drew blood, Zhang Aihua didn’t turn.

Jiang Linhai asked, "So what do we do now? Barricade the doors and hide?"

To keep working on the fence, they would have to shrink the planned perimeter, and fast.

Jiang Si looked toward the cabin. "Perhaps one person can decide whether we stay or go."

Everyone immediately thought of Jiao Chunzi and turned to look at the cabin.

Bao’er was hungry again. Just as Jiao Chunzi was about to feed her, Jiang Si and Shen Baoying knocked on the door.

Before opening the door, Jiao Chunzi, still holding Bao’er, put on her mask, hat, and sunglasses. She was afraid her grotesque face would frighten Shen Baoying.

Shen Baoying had braced herself before coming, so she was actually a bit surprised to see Jiao Chunzi so completely covered up.

Jiao Chunzi spoke first. "Miss Jiang, is there anything I can do to help?"

Jiang Si nodded. "Actually, yes. We need your help with something."

Jiang Si glanced at the baby in her arms, then said, "Can you sense the zombies’ locations?"

Jiao Chunzi shook her head. "I don’t feel anything."

Jiang Si said, "You should try. A lot of zombies are about to swarm our location."

Jiao Chunzi closed her eyes and tried, but then opened them in frustration. She shook her head apologetically. "I can’t sense anything."

’I’m so useless.’ She also worried that Jiang Si and the others would kick her and Bao’er out.

She felt utterly adrift.

Jiang Si frowned. ’Logically, Jiao Chunzi should be able to control zombies.’

’Maybe she’s not close enough.’

Jiang Si asked, "Could I ask you to come with me somewhere?"

"My mother can look after your baby, I promise she’ll be fine. We’ll only be gone for a little while."

’Jiang Si could have just ordered me around, but she’s speaking to me so earnestly.’

Jiao Chunzi nodded. She cast a reluctant glance at Bao’er before leaving the room with Jiang Si.

For this outing, Jiang Si took a helicopter.

Qin Shen had wanted to go with them.

But Jiang Si had him stay behind, worried that everyone would be overwhelmed if zombies suddenly attacked from another direction.

Jiao Chunzi got into the copilot’s seat. Only after she had buckled her seatbelt did she ask, "Where are we going?"

Jiang Si glanced over at her. "Zombies are heading our way. I need to see if you can control them. If you can, we’ll stay at Hot Spring Bay. If you can’t, we pack our bags and leave this place immediately."

’Only if Jiang Si’s group is safe will Bao’er be safe.’

Jiao Chunzi nodded. "Okay. I’ll do everything I can."

"Mm."

A few moments later, they spotted an infected moose from the helicopter.

Jiang Si was just about to speak to Jiao Chunzi.

When a vulture, infected with the zombie virus, lunged at the helicopter with its talons.

They had lost all signs of life, becoming a different kind of creature altogether.

The helicopter’s infrared sensors were useless against them, which is why she was caught by surprise.

Jiang Si swerved the helicopter left and right, dodging, but with a loud CLANG, another vulture slammed onto the wing with lightning speed.

Jiang Si threw the helicopter into a steep, spinning dive to finally shake the vulture off.

But the scent of her living blood had already driven the vultures into a frenzy.

Moments later, they were back, relentlessly giving chase.

In the ten years of her past life, Jiang Si had never been chased by zombie vultures.

’Compared to the slow-moving ground zombies, these things are terrifying.’

Jiao Chunzi desperately tried to help, but the more she panicked, the less she could focus her mind.

Suddenly, Qin Shen appeared, riding Little Chun.

He was holding a sniper rifle. CRACK— Even from the air, he landed a perfect shot on one of the crazed zombie vultures.

Seeing him, Jiang Si let out a long sigh of relief. She adjusted the helicopter’s angle, luring the other mutated vulture into an easier position for Qin Shen to shoot.

CRACK—

The second vulture plummeted from the sky.

With the crisis in the air averted, Jiao Chunzi was miserable. "I’m so sorry. I couldn’t help at all, and I almost got you killed."

After all, Jiang Si had only come out in the helicopter to test her supposed ability to control zombies.
