Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Chapter 266: Renting a Storefront! Doing Business

Sierra Sullivan could understand why Hector Grant felt the need to give that warning, but hearing it still felt a little strange.

"Do I look that stupid?" Sierra couldn’t help but ask.

Hector Grant shook his head. "Of course not. I just wanted to give you a heads-up. Think of it as being better safe than sorry."

Now that Hector Grant had explained himself, Sierra actually felt a little embarrassed.

’It makes me look like I’m throwing a tantrum for no reason!’

Sierra cleared her throat. "Well, Captain Grant, you should get back to your duties. Don’t worry about us. We’re going to see Jayce’s mom."

"Okay, you guys go on ahead then."

With that, Hector Grant turned and walked away quickly.

Judging by how fast he left, you could tell he really was busy.

Sierra breathed a sigh of relief and looked over at Jayce, meeting his smiling gaze.

"Let’s go," Sierra said, holding her hand out to Jayce. "Let’s go see Aunt Shelby and tell her what happened."

"Okay."

Jayce took one of Sierra’s hands.

Candice Tate immediately circled around to Sierra’s other side and took her other hand.

Usually, it was Candice Tate who walked in the middle.

But as Sierra looked at the two people beside her, she thought there was nothing wrong with walking like this.

With the matter resolved, all three of them were in high spirits, their steps light and quick.

Before they knew it, they had arrived at Yvonne Shelby’s place.

The moment they knocked, hurried footsteps sounded from inside.

A few seconds later, the door flew open.

Yvonne Shelby looked frantic. "You’re here! I’ve been waiting for you!"

Seeing Yvonne Shelby looking so worried, Sierra grew tense. "Aunt Shelby, what is it? Did something happen? Take your time, don’t rush."

Jayce quickly added, "Yeah, Mom, don’t panic. Whatever it is, just tell us. We can solve anything."

Hearing their reassurances and seeing the looks on their faces, Yvonne Shelby understood immediately.

She had scared them!

Yvonne Shelby quickly waved her hands. "No... it’s nothing! Don’t be nervous. It’s just... I was thinking of renting a storefront on the first sublevel to start a business. What do you guys think?"

At first, when Yvonne Shelby said it was nothing, Sierra and Jayce didn’t believe her.

But after hearing her out, they realized she was telling the truth.

"And here I was worried!" Jayce sighed in relief. "You want to open a shop? That’s great! Isn’t that what you’re best at? You should totally do it! What are you planning to sell? Is there anything I can do to help?"

"We’ve got time right now, so why don’t we go to the first sublevel and take a look? If we find a suitable storefront, we can just rent it on the spot."

Yvonne Shelby had been worried that Sierra and Jayce would disapprove.

After all, she had everything she needed now and could just relax at home. Why bother with the endless hassle of running a business?

If she didn’t make a profit and ended up losing money, it would be a classic case of making trouble for herself.

She had even prepared a whole speech to explain her reasoning.

But in the end... she didn’t need it at all.

Neither Sierra nor Jayce asked a single question; they just agreed immediately.

In fact, they were even more eager than she was.

Seeing Yvonne Shelby standing there stunned, motionless and silent, Sierra grew a little puzzled and worried. "Aunt Shelby, what’s wrong?"

Jayce added, "Yeah, Mom, what is it? If something’s on your mind, just tell us. Don’t bottle it up."

Yvonne Shelby snapped out of it and blinked hard, forcing back the stinging sensation in her eyes. But her eyes still inevitably turned red around the rims.

"I’m fine!" Yvonne Shelby shook her head. "I was just thinking about something else. Let’s go, we can go take a look now! See if there are any suitable places."

To run a legitimate and stable business in Subterra, you definitely needed to rent a proper storefront.

Otherwise, if you got robbed, there was no one to turn to.

The whole of Subterra had people on patrol day and night.

As long as you rented a storefront, you wouldn’t have to worry about security.

The group quickly made their way to the first sublevel and went straight to the property management office.

Wandering around aimlessly would be pointless. Coming here to ask directly was much more convenient and efficient.

And they were not disappointed.

A staff member quickly picked out three storefronts based on their requirements.

"If you’re serious about renting, I can take you to see them right now."

The staff member was extremely enthusiastic and proactive.

It was the same agent who had helped them rent their apartment.

Because of this, he had a good sense of Sierra’s group and knew they were capable.

As long as the property was suitable, this deal was practically guaranteed.

Sierra wasn’t one for dragging things out, especially with matters like this. She preferred to get things done quickly, so she agreed to view the properties.

Yvonne Shelby, on the other hand, hadn’t expected things to move so fast.

Despite her surprise, she quickly composed herself and went with them to see the storefronts.

The three storefronts were close to one another, which was convenient for viewing them.

After they had seen all three storefronts, the agent tactfully stepped back to give them some space to talk.

Yvonne Shelby glanced over at the man. "He’s pretty good. Very perceptive."

Jayce nodded in full agreement. "He is! Mom, in the future when your business gets bigger and you need to open another branch, you should come back to him. Give him some more business."

Yvonne Shelby laughed at his words. "Another branch? You think things are like they used to be? I’m not expecting to open any branches. Just having one shop to run, something stable to keep me busy—that’s enough for me."

Yvonne Shelby wanted to start a business simply because she didn’t want to be idle.

It made her feel as if her life had no meaning.

Opening a small shop... it didn’t matter whether she earned a lot or a little, as long as she didn’t lose money.

Running a small shop would at least enrich her daily life and keep her from getting too bored.

Jayce had only said that to make Yvonne Shelby happy.

Seeing she didn’t share his ambition, he didn’t press the issue. "So, of these three storefronts, which one do you like, Mom?"

Yvonne Shelby considered it carefully. "I think the second one is good. The size is about right, and the location is decent. What do you all think?"

"I have no objections," said Jayce.

"No objections from me, either!" Sierra chimed in.

"Me too!" Candice Tate raised her hand high. "I have no objections!"

Seeing all three of them fully supporting her decision, Yvonne Shelby was overjoyed. "Great! Let’s go with the second one, then!"

Yvonne Shelby immediately called the agent over and told him their decision.

The agent had expected them to make a quick decision, but he was still surprised and delighted by just how fast they were.

"Excellent! Let’s go sign the contract right away!"
