Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Chapter 257: Captain Grant, You’re Going Against Me Too?

Just as Sierra Sullivan was about to speak, Dominic Crawford hurriedly pushed his way out of the crowd.

"Sierra!"

Dominic Crawford stared pleadingly at Sierra, his eyes also full of supplication.

Perhaps because he was too anxious, or maybe because he was too nervous, the tip of Dominic’s nose and his temples were beaded with sweat, and his chest heaved violently.

When Joy Warren had looked at her like that, Sierra Sullivan had felt nothing at all.

After all, she and Joy Warren had no real friendship. They were mere acquaintances who had worked together for a while, but that was it.

But Dominic Crawford was different.

She had known Dominic Crawford for so long and had truly considered him a good friend. No matter what, she had always looked out for him.

But now, for Joy Warren’s sake, he was putting her in a difficult position in front of all these people.

Sierra felt more than just disappointment and sadness; she was furious. Her expression turned completely cold.

Sierra ignored Dominic Crawford and didn’t even glance at Joy Warren. Instead, she turned to Simon Hughes with a blank expression.

"You seem to have misunderstood. I’m not close with Joy Warren. At best, we’re just acquaintances. So, with me, her name carries no weight."

As Sierra finished speaking, Joy Warren staggered, her face turning as white as a sheet.

"Sierra..."

Dominic Crawford stammered, his eyes filled with disbelief.

’In his memory, Sierra was supposed to be a good person. Why is she talking like this now?’

’All Sierra had to do was say one nice thing, agree to have a meal with Simon Hughes, and it would help Joy. Why isn’t she willing?’

’It’s such a small favor!’

"Sierra, you—"

Dominic Crawford wanted to say something more.

But he had barely gotten those few words out before Sierra shot him a cold glare.

"Why do you keep saying my name? Are we that close?"

If Sierra had felt even a shred of pity for Dominic Crawford before, now, that last trace was gone.

Even the unreliable Nathan Thorne was proving to be more loyal and righteous than Dominic, who she’d always thought of as reliable.

Thinking of this, Sierra couldn’t help but want to shake her head.

’You really can’t judge a book by its cover.’

Some people seem nice, but they’re nice to everyone.

To put it nicely, they’re just gentle.

But to be blunt, they’re indecisive and self-deceiving.

Dominic Crawford clearly belonged to the latter category.

With someone like that, talking more was useless. It was better to save her breath and not waste any more words.

Dominic Crawford’s face turned pale as well.

He realized why Sierra was saying this and subconsciously wanted to explain, but he opened and closed his mouth without being able to say a word.

He found he didn’t even know how to begin explaining.

After all, in that split second, his only thought had been for Joy. He hadn’t considered how much trouble it would cause Sierra if she actually agreed to Simon Hughes’s demand.

’But... if Sierra doesn’t choose anyone, won’t she offend both families?’

Simon Hughes glanced at Dominic Crawford, a flicker of amusement in his eyes, but he quickly concealed it.

"Joy, what’s going on?" Simon Hughes looked at Joy Warren, displeased. "Didn’t you say you were good friends with Sierra and the others? It certainly doesn’t look that way now."

"I..."

Joy Warren wanted to explain, but she didn’t know where to start.

Claire Vance, who had watched the whole thing from start to finish, finally couldn’t hold back her laughter. Her voice rang out like a silver bell, completely unrestrained.

"HAHAHAHA! Simon Hughes, are you trying to kill me with laughter? What do you call this? Kissing up to someone just to get the cold shoulder? I never thought I’d see the day the great young master of the Hughes Family would be so eager, only to get shot down so decisively."

Simon Hughes’s face darkened. "Claire Vance, you have the nerve to mock me? How are you any better?"

"At least I don’t pretend to be close with people I barely know."

"You—"

The two of them glared at each other, neither willing to back down an inch. The atmosphere was stretched to its breaking point.

Sierra had no interest in staying to watch them bicker. "Let my friend go. We’re leaving."

"Let your friend go?" Claire Vance chuckled. "Are you kidding me? He already agreed to come back with me. From now on, he belongs to me."

"Bullshit!" Nathan Thorne cursed angrily.

He didn’t want to drag Sierra and the others into this, but he couldn’t just let Claire Vance spout nonsense.

"When did I ever agree to that!"

Claire Vance sneered. "Does it matter if you agree? There’s no one I, Claire Vance, want that I can’t get. Do you really think a few of you can stand against me?"

"How will we know if we don’t try?"

"Fine!" Claire Vance’s voice rose. "Let’s try then! Simon Hughes won’t be sticking his neck out for you now. Who else can you count on?"

"What’s all this commotion!"

Hector Grant’s voice suddenly cut in, drawing everyone’s attention.

Sierra looked over at the sound of his voice and saw Hector Grant striding toward them with a dozen or so people in tow.

Seeing Hector Grant, Claire Vance’s expression soured even more. "Captain Grant, are you going to oppose me too?"

"I’m not opposing anyone," Hector Grant said, his tone neither servile nor overbearing. "I’m simply maintaining order in Subterra. No one is allowed to fight in Cinderfell."

"Aren’t you afraid of offending the Vance Family by doing this, Captain Grant?"

"If the Vance Family wants to do something to me over this, I’ll be waiting."

Since Hector Grant had put it so bluntly, Claire Vance knew she wouldn’t be getting her way today.

While she wasn’t afraid of Hector Grant himself, the Grant Family was not one to be trifled with.

’I can find another chance to deal with Sierra and her friends later. There’s no need to make an enemy of the Grant Family over this.’

’I refuse to believe Hector Grant can stick with Sierra’s group twenty-four-seven!’

Thinking this, Claire Vance snorted coldly. "We’re leaving!"

Claire Vance left with her people.

Simon Hughes smiled and shrugged. "Looks like the show’s over. I’ll be taking off, then. Captain Grant, let’s grab a meal sometime when you’re free!"

Hector Grant watched Simon Hughes quietly without responding.

Simon Hughes didn’t seem to mind. He turned to Dominic Crawford. "Bro, you’re friends with Joy, right? Interested in grabbing a bite together?"

Dominic Crawford hesitated for a moment but agreed and left with Simon Hughes.

Watching them walk away, Hector Grant frowned.

"Simon Hughes is not a simple man. For Dominic Crawford to go with him..."

"That’s his own choice," Sierra said in a calm voice. "He’s a grown man. He knows what he should and shouldn’t do. We don’t need to worry about him."

Hector Grant was stunned for a moment, but he quickly understood. ’Looks like something happened before I got here!’
