Chapter 253: Sierra Sullivan, You and Jayce Are Planning to Have a Wedding?
"Sierra, wait!"
"I have something to say to you!"
"Could you please walk over there with me for a moment?"
Joy Warren’s eyes were filled with pleading, and her words were just as earnest.
Even though Joy looked truly pathetic, Sierra didn’t feel the slightest bit of pity.
"No. If you have something to say, say it here. If not, we’re leaving."
Joy bit her lip. "Do you have to be so cruel to me? We’re both women. Can’t you understand why I did what I did?"
"No." Sierra shook her head. "I can’t understand your actions, and I don’t want to."
"You!"
Joy was about to flare up in anger, but she suppressed it before it could show.
After taking a deep breath, Joy finally said, "I just want you to help me tell Mr. Crawford something. I chose to leave him not because he’s a bad person, but because he couldn’t give me what I want. He’s a good man. I’m the one who let him down."
"Anything else?" Sierra asked.
Joy shook her head. "No, that’s it."
"Then we’ll be going."
Joy stood frozen, watching Sierra and the others walk away. After biting her lip, she finally turned and went back to find Simon Hughes.
Simon Hughes was sitting in a shop eating. When he saw Joy return, he raised an eyebrow. "Done with your little secret chat?"
Joy’s face paled. "I..."
"Don’t worry about it." Simon Hughes nonchalantly put a bite of stir-fried meat into his mouth. "I know you had a thing with someone before. Now that you’ve broken up, maybe there are still some lingering feelings. It doesn’t matter. Even if you don’t want to be my woman, you can still work for me. The benefits I give you won’t be any less. You can even get back together with your old flame. You two can work for me together."
The more nonchalant Simon acted, and the more casually he spoke, the uglier Joy’s expression became.
’If that really happened, what would that make me?’
’And what would that make Dominic Crawford?’
’Even if I were willing, Dominic would never agree to it!’
Although anger simmered within Joy, she didn’t let it show.
"Master Hughes, you must be joking. I wouldn’t do that. Since I’ve chosen you, Master Hughes, I won’t be disloyal, much less get involved with anyone from my past."
Simon Hughes just smiled, offering no comment.
Seeing him remain silent made Joy even more nervous.
But since he wasn’t talking, she didn’t dare press the issue and could only sit beside him in uneasy silence.
...
Meanwhile, Sierra and the other two had lost their interest in shopping and decided to head back.
On the way back, Candice Tate looked up at Sierra. "Sierra, are you going to tell Mr. Crawford what she said?"
Sierra nodded. "Yes. I didn’t want to agree to it, but since I did, I have to follow through. A person should be true to their word."
Candice nodded as if she’d had an epiphany, but only she knew what she had truly understood.
As luck would have it, they ran into Dominic Crawford just as he was coming out of his room.
His expression turned awkward when he saw them, and he subconsciously tried to slip away.
"Wait," Sierra called out to him.
A flicker of light appeared in Dominic’s eyes. He immediately looked at Sierra. "What is it? Is something wrong?"
"We just ran into Joy Warren on the lower level. She asked me to tell you..."
Sierra relayed everything Joy had said to Dominic.
As Dominic listened, the expression on his face grew increasingly complex.
’I can’t believe Joy is still thinking of me, that she’d specifically ask Sierra to pass on this message.’
’But if she wanted to tell me this, why didn’t she say so before?’
’When I went to find her earlier, why was she so heartless?’
’Does she still care about me, even a little?’
’If I go find her now, can I still salvage things?’
As these thoughts ran through his mind, some of them began to show on his face.
"Thank you for telling me this. I have something to do, so I’ll be going now!"
Dominic said, turning to leave in a hurry.
"Stop!" Sierra called out, stopping him. "Are you going to find her?"
Caught, Dominic looked a bit embarrassed.
But he quickly firmed his resolve.
"I think... she still has feelings for me. So I want to go and ask her. If she could—if we could—"
"If you could what?" Sierra scoffed. "Get back together with you? Whether she still has feelings for you or not, she won’t choose to be with you. There’s something more important to her now, don’t you understand? If you go looking for her, you might not get back together, but you will definitely bring her harm."
Sierra didn’t stop Dominic and say all this just for Joy’s sake.
She just didn’t want things to spiral into an irreversible disaster.
’Since they’re on different paths now, they should just let each other be. Why make things difficult for one another?’
The hope that had just appeared in Dominic’s eyes vanished, replaced by sorrow.
"You’re right." Dominic’s voice was hoarse. "It’s one thing that I can’t give her what she wants. I can’t bring her harm, too. I won’t go. Don’t worry."
Dominic seemed to have forgotten he was on his way out. After saying this, he turned and went back into his apartment.
Watching the door close again, Sierra didn’t dwell on it.
She had said what needed to be said. The rest was no longer her responsibility.
After returning home, Sierra immediately took the clock out of her storage space, set the time, and hung it in the living room.
With a clock like this, the place felt a little more like a home.
Sierra then took out the lamps she had bought, installed the Crystal Cores, and placed them in different rooms.
These lamps were brighter, and they didn’t have to worry about using up electricity. As long as they weren’t sleeping, they could leave them on all the time.
Sierra looked around, feeling more and more satisfied.
"Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve. Let’s tidy up and decorate the house. We can have dinner together and stay up to ring in the new year!" Sierra said to Jayce.
Jayce nodded. "I’ll go over to my parents’ place and let them know, ask them to come over tomorrow."
"Then take the New Year’s couplets with you while you’re at it."
"Okay!"
After Jayce left, Sierra pulled out a bunch of red items from her storage space and started decorating with Candice.
The splash of color made the whole apartment feel much cozier, really adding to the New Year’s atmosphere.
That evening, Nathan Thorne returned and came over to freeload a meal.
When he saw the festive decorations in the apartment, Nathan froze for a moment. "What’s this? Sierra, are you and Jayce planning a wedding? Does this mean I have to prepare a gift?"
