Chapter 233: The Powerless Aberrant Beast
Sierra nodded along. "Definitely! Remember when we were trapped outside by the sandstorm for a month? We still managed to get back in the end, didn’t we?"
With so many Superpower Users and plenty of supplies, we don’t lack food or water. As long as we’re patient, we’ll surely see the day the sandstorm weakens. Getting back successfully won’t be a problem.
Hearing Sierra’s words, Hector Grant was at a loss for whether to laugh or cry. "That’s some comfort..."
Sierra raised an eyebrow. "What’s wrong?"
’Is there something wrong with how I’m comforting him?’
Hector Grant shook his head. "It’s nothing."
Seeing he didn’t want to elaborate, Sierra didn’t press him.
It was Nathan Thorne, however, who spoke up. "Since we’re not going back anytime soon, I’ll go find Mr. Crawford."
Nathan had originally planned to treat Dominic Crawford’s arm after they returned to Subterra.
But since they couldn’t go back now, he couldn’t just let the arm injury linger. It had to be healed first.
Hearing Nathan say this, Sierra just nodded. "Go ahead, then."
A lot of the time, Nathan didn’t seem very reliable.
But you only realized when things got serious that he was actually quite dependable and took many things to heart.
Dominic Crawford’s remaining injuries weren’t that severe to begin with. With his Superpower fully charged, Nathan healed him completely on the spot.
The others saw this, and regardless of what they thought, they didn’t say a word.
People have their own circles of close friends and distant acquaintances. It was only human for Nathan to choose to heal someone he had a good relationship with first.
If they were to criticize Nathan for this, they’d just be looking for a fight.
After his arm was fully restored, Dominic Crawford was visibly emotional.
He didn’t say it out loud, but he had been extremely anxious when he was injured.
It wasn’t that he was afraid of becoming disabled, but that he was afraid that if he did, he wouldn’t be able to take care of Joy Warren, wouldn’t be able to provide for his family, and would become a burden.
Fortunately, none of that had happened.
Dominic Crawford looked at Nathan gratefully. "Nathan, thanks! If you ever need me for anything in the future, just say the word. I won’t hesitate for a second."
Nathan had been in a pretty good mood, but after hearing Dominic’s words, it soured a little.
"Are you only saying this because I healed your arm?"
’Shouldn’t he have felt that way already, based on our previous friendship?’
Dominic was taken aback by the question. "No, that’s not what I mean. What I mean is..."
He wanted to explain, but he didn’t know how to put it into words.
Seeing him hesitate, at a loss for words, Nathan suddenly felt it was pointless and simply stood up. "You’re all healed up. I’m going to get back to work."
’As long as I haven’t used up too much of my Superpower and energy, I should save as many people as I can.’
Every person Nathan completely healed was immensely grateful to him.
They knew Nathan was saving them because they were currently teammates and because Hector Grant had instructed him to.
But that didn’t stop them from feeling grateful.
Some even took out Crystal Cores and pressed them into Nathan’s hands, insisting that he take them.
Nathan hadn’t planned on refusing in the first place.
He saved people, and they paid him. It was only right.
Once the slate was clean, they could interact more easily and naturally.
Over the next two days, Nathan became the busiest person on the entire second floor.
The results of his hard work were also obvious.
No matter the external injury, under Nathan’s treatment, everyone made a full recovery.
And Nathan himself took another day to fully recover his energy and Superpower.
The state of their group was now better than it had ever been.
If they were to encounter zombies or mutated animals now, they wouldn’t back down at all.
But there were no zombies or mutated animals.
Every day, all they could hear was the howling wind and the sound of sand lashing against broken glass.
Even without seeing what was happening outside, just listening was enough to know the situation hadn’t improved at all.
At first, everyone had the patience to wait.
But as the days passed, many of them started to grow restless.
With so many people trapped in such a confined space, their moods frayed, and conflicts inevitably began to break out.
In the beginning, many held back out of respect for Hector Grant.
But gradually, they became less restrained.
Hector Grant couldn’t exactly do much to them over a little friction, after all. At most, he would scold them for a bit, which was nothing to them, so they stopped taking it seriously.
But there was no way Hector Grant would let them get away with it.
Anyone caught stirring up trouble would have their food and water rations suspended.
The supplies were all under Hector Grant’s control, and the Space Ability Users certainly weren’t going to cross him by secretly giving food and water to the troublemakers.
With their food and water cut off, it was like their lifeline had been severed. One by one, they all fell back in line.
But compared to before, they were a little too well-behaved.
You could barely hear a single conversation from morning till night.
Nearly two hundred people, and you couldn’t hear a single person speak the entire day. The oppressive atmosphere was something you couldn’t possibly understand unless you were there.
After several more days passed like this, the silence was finally broken.
It was shattered by a heavy, resounding impact.
The sound was immense, as if an explosion had gone off right above their heads.
They could even feel the building itself tremble from the force.
Everyone jumped in fright, staring at the ceiling in terror, not understanding what had happened.
"Sierra!" Candice Tate grabbed Sierra’s hand in terror. "What’s happening?"
Sierra pulled Candice into her arms, patting her back gently. "It’s okay, Candice, don’t be scared. I’ll go check it out in a minute."
At her words, Candice’s grip on Sierra’s hand tightened.
Jayce then said, "Captain Grant and I will go check on the situation. Sierra, you all wait here."
Sierra nodded. "Okay! Be careful!"
"Don’t worry!"
Jayce quickly went downstairs with Hector Grant and a few others.
They left quickly and returned just as fast, each of them wearing a complicated expression.
Complicated, and even a little strange.
Sierra hurriedly asked, "What is it? What just happened?"
Jayce explained in a low voice, "A massive Aberrant Beast crashed into the building. It’s lying next to it now, already dead."
Sierra was stunned for a moment. "How did it die?"
"From the looks of it, it got swept up by the sandstorm and smashed into a bunch of things along the way. That’s what killed it."
In other words, it died in the sandstorm.
Even a massive, powerful Aberrant Beast stood no chance against a sandstorm like this. It could only be swept about by the winds until it finally died.
