Chapter 204: Eating Luosifen
The two didn’t say a word, just held each other quietly, enjoying this rare time alone together.
Until Sierra’s stomach let out a loud GRUMBLE.
The sudden sound of a rumbling stomach echoed through the quiet room. Even though the two of them were so close, Sierra couldn’t help but blush.
Jayce, however, didn’t laugh. He sat up. "Sierra’s hungry. Let’s get up and eat something. After our meal, we’ll go pick up Candice. I’ll have my mom come over to see you too, just to put her mind at ease."
Thinking about all the things they had to do, Sierra couldn’t lie still any longer and immediately flipped over and sat up.
Once they were both dressed, they went out to the living room. Sierra pulled two servings of luosifen from her space.
The luosifen was fiery hot and bright red, steaming as if it had just come off the stove.
And it wasn’t just the luosifen; there was also a complete spread of all the various side dishes that go with it.
Crispy fried pig’s trotters, fried tofu skin rolls, scored dried tofu, beef meatballs, stinky tofu...
There was also a bowl of chopped scallions, a bowl of chopped cilantro, a bowl of diced radish, a bowl of sliced chili peppers, and finally, two different bowls of chili toppings with varying levels of heat.
All these things were spread across the table, covering it completely.
If conditions permitted, with all this food, they could have opened their own luosifen shop right then and there.
Because luosifen has such a strong smell, Sierra had avoided eating it in the early days of the apocalypse to avoid causing unnecessary trouble.
But things were different now.
Here in Subterra, it was completely safe, and there were established rules and regulations.
In fact, as long as you had enough Contribution Points, you could live a life just like before the apocalypse.
Under these circumstances, eating a bowl of luosifen was hardly a big deal.
After piling on all the toppings, Sierra took a bite. Deciding it wasn’t spicy enough, she added another spoonful of ghost pepper chili to her bowl.
The already crimson bowl now looked so red it was almost black.
Jayce watched from the side, feeling his own stomach begin to ache just looking at it.
He didn’t even have to taste it to imagine just how spicy that bowl of luosifen was.
’Only Sierra could eat something like that. He, on the other hand, couldn’t handle a single bite.’
A man is never supposed to say he can’t handle something, but faced with this, he could only admit defeat.
The bowl of luosifen was so spicy it was off the charts. It left Sierra’s lips and cheeks flushed red, and a light sheen of sweat beaded on the tip of her nose and her forehead.
But she had to admit, it felt completely invigorating.
The feeling was just so incredibly satisfying.
It was especially comforting to follow the luosifen with a few bites of chilled tofu pudding and sweet tapioca soup, which made her feel even better.
Sierra leaned back on the sofa, her eyes gazing absently at the ceiling.
In that moment, all her worries seemed to have vanished.
After zoning out for a few minutes, Sierra finally sat up, returned the various condiments on the table to her space, while Jayce washed the bowls and utensils. He even used his Superpower to get the lingering smell of luosifen off of both of them.
It had to be said, Jayce was getting incredibly creative with his Superpower.
Another Water Ability User might not have thought of so many different applications for their powers.
After leaving their apartment, the two of them first knocked on the doors of their neighbors on either side.
It seemed Dominic Crawford wasn’t home; after knocking for a bit, there was no response.
Nathan Thorne, however, quickly opened his door.
Before Sierra could even speak, Nathan Thorne sniffed the air, his eyes lighting up. "Sierra, did you and Jayce sneak some luosifen behind my back?"
Hearing Nathan’s question, Sierra instinctively sniffed her own clothes.
’I don’t smell anything!’
’Jayce just got rid of the smell. How did Nathan pick it up so fast?’
"Stop sniffing!" Nathan Thorne lifted his chin proudly. "My nose has always been extra sensitive. The smell on you is really, really faint. Someone else probably wouldn’t smell it at all, but I picked it up immediately!"
Having a sense of smell more acute than other people’s was indeed something to be proud of.
Seeing Nathan’s smug expression, Sierra couldn’t help but chuckle. "Alright, we get it, you’re amazing. No need to brag. But we weren’t ’sneaking’ anything. We were eating it loud and proud."
’How can it be called sneaking when you’re eating your own food?’
’That’s what I call eating out in the open!’
Nathan’s head immediately drooped. "Sierra, that’s not what I meant. I was just saying... next time you eat, can you include me? I really want some too!"
Sierra definitely couldn’t share the kind of meal she and Jayce had just eaten with Nathan.
Those ingredients weren’t things you could just find after awakening a Space Ability.
Instead, Sierra simply pulled a case of instant luosifen from her space and placed it right in Nathan’s arms. "Here. If you want some, cook it yourself!"
Cradling the case of luosifen, Nathan grinned from ear to ear. "Sierra! You’re the best! I’m going to go cook some right now!"
Even though he had just eaten, Nathan wasn’t like an ordinary person anymore; his appetite was much larger.
Even right after a meal, he could easily put away another two packs of luosifen.
"Wait a second!" Sierra called out to Nathan. "We’re going to get Candice, so I’m just letting you know in case you come looking for us later and can’t find us."
At that moment, the only thing on Nathan’s mind was luosifen.
Hearing Sierra’s words, he just nodded distractedly. "Got it. You guys go on ahead. Do you need me to come with you?"
"No, we’ll be back soon. You go ahead and cook your luosifen!"
After saying goodbye to Nathan, Sierra and Jayce wasted no more time and hurried off to find Yvonne Shelby and Candice Tate.
Luckily, they all lived on the same floor. Although it was still a bit of a walk, the route wasn’t complicated. If they walked quickly, they could get there in a little over ten minutes.
While they didn’t exactly sprint, they still kept up a brisk pace.
They reached Yvonne Shelby’s place in just ten minutes.
They knocked on the door, and Candice Tate’s voice immediately rang out from inside.
"Auntie, it’s Big Brother and Big Sister! They’re back!"
Inside, Yvonne Shelby watched Candice Tate with a smile. "How does Candice know it’s your big brother and sister who are back? What if it’s somebody else?"
"It’s not somebody else!" Candice Tate said earnestly. "I know it! It has to be them!"
Hearing her confident tone, Yvonne stopped teasing her and went to open the door.
Standing outside were, just as she’d said, Jayce and Sierra Sullivan.
Candice Tate had already leaped cheerfully into Sierra’s arms. "Sierra, you’re back! I missed you so much!"
’We’ve only been gone one morning, how does that warrant ’so much’?’
Though she was a little puzzled, Sierra hugged Candice back and lifted her up.
"I missed Candice too! I’ve found a place for us to live. How about I take you to see it now?"
