Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Chapter 200: You Can Talk About Me, But Not Sierra

Hearing this, Sierra Sullivan walked over with her bowl of dumplings.

The aroma of the hot and sour soup dumplings was already potent, and up close, the spicy and sour fragrance drilled right into one’s nostrils.

The middle-aged woman was already salivating, and seeing Sierra Sullivan approach with a bowl of bright red dumplings made it even more unbearable.

"Are those for me? Well, don’t mind if I do!"

She said, reaching for the bowl in Sierra Sullivan’s hands.

Sierra Sullivan sidestepped, dodging her outstretched hand.

The next moment, right in front of the woman, she picked up a dumpling and popped it into her mouth.

The middle-aged woman’s eyes widened at the sight. "What’s the meaning of this? Aren’t those dumplings for me?"

Sierra Sullivan gave her a strange look. "What do you mean, ’what’s the meaning of this’? When did I ever say these were for you?"

"If you’re not giving them to me... then why did you walk over here with the bowl?"

"It’s just that I haven’t seen someone so shameless in a long time. I wanted to stand a little closer to get a good, long, detailed look!"

"You!"

Humiliated and furious, the middle-aged woman stared at Sierra Sullivan for a moment before finally turning to Yvonne Shelby. "Listen, who is this? She’s in your house, eating your food, and doesn’t have a lick of manners. I’m her elder, after all. How can she talk to me like that?"

Yvonne Shelby was usually quite good-natured.

Even when this woman had first shown up and said such outrageous things, Yvonne hadn’t gotten angry. She’d just found it a bit amusing.

But now, hearing her criticize Sierra Sullivan, Yvonne’s hackles were instantly raised.

For Yvonne Shelby, people could say what they wanted about her, but they absolutely could not say a bad word about Sierra Sullivan.

’Sierra is such a good person. If anyone speaks ill of her, it must be because there’s something wrong with them!’

"What kind of elder are you to my Sierra?" Yvonne Shelby retorted. "At best, you’re just someone who lives nearby. I don’t even know your name, and we’ve never had any dealings with each other. You barge into my house demanding dumplings and then bad-mouth my daughter-in-law. I’d say you’re the one with no manners. Have you lost your mind?"

"You..."

"What ’me’? Am I wrong? If there’s something wrong with your head, you should hurry up and get it fixed. Your grandson is crying because he wants dumplings, so you figure out a way to get him some. You’re not capable of doing it yourself, so you come to my house spouting nonsense? Do you have anything else to say? Even if you do, don’t say it to me. I don’t want to hear it. Oh, and by the way, we were never close to begin with, so don’t come to my house again. You’re not welcome."

Yvonne Shelby spoke so rapidly she didn’t give the other woman a chance to get a word in.

While the woman was still staring, dumbfounded, Yvonne Shelby had already shut the door.

It was a good thing the woman stepped back just in time, or her nose would have been hit.

"Sierra, are you all right?"

The moment she turned around, Yvonne Shelby began to fuss over Sierra Sullivan.

Hearing Yvonne Shelby’s concern, Sierra Sullivan felt a warmth spread through her heart.

She had only said a couple of sentences, yet Yvonne had stood up for her.

She knew perfectly well that Sierra was fine, but she was concerned all the same.

Yvonne Shelby truly cared for her deeply.

Sierra Sullivan gave Yvonne Shelby a brilliant smile. "Aunt Shelby, don’t worry, I’m fine. With people like her, you just have to treat their words like farts! You shouldn’t get angry at her either, Aunt Shelby. It’s not worth it."

Seeing that Sierra Sullivan truly hadn’t taken it to heart, Yvonne Shelby finally breathed a sigh of relief. "As long as you’re okay! Come on, let’s go back and eat dumplings! Eat up!"

"You eat up too, Aunt Shelby!"

The dumplings were truly delicious; Sierra Sullivan could finish one in a single bite.

Nathan Thorne ate without even lifting his head, finishing a whole bowl in no time.

Besides the dumplings, there were other dishes in front of Nathan Thorne.

After all, Nathan Thorne’s appetite was quite large these days. If he only ate dumplings, he’d probably have to eat a huge amount to get full.

He had to supplement them with other food.

Otherwise, Nathan Thorne would probably eat more than half of all the dumplings they had made today by himself.

But even so, Nathan Thorne ate with tears welling in his eyes.

"I can’t even remember the last time I had dumplings. They’re so delicious! My past self was such an idiot for thinking dumplings weren’t good!"

Hearing Nathan Thorne’s words, Sierra Sullivan couldn’t help but chuckle.

’A person really can’t empathize with their past self.’

’That statement applies to everyone.’

Sierra Sullivan was almost finished eating, so she asked Nathan Thorne, "How are your parents doing?"

Nathan Thorne wiped his mouth and sat up straight. "Their situation is similar to ours here. My dad’s no longer the base commander. He’s in charge of logistics now. He doesn’t have as much power as before, but he doesn’t have as much responsibility either. My dad’s pretty philosophical about it. He says he’s getting old and doesn’t have a Superpower, so it’s good for him to step down. From now on, if the sky falls, the tall people can hold it up. He can just live his life in peace. I think it’s for the best, too."

After talking about his own family, Nathan Thorne’s expression grew complicated. "I also went to see the families of those guys. They’re living in the communal dorms now. Life isn’t great, but they have jobs and get food and drink every day. I gave them the Crystal Cores. How they choose to use them is up to them."

In the past, Nathan Thorne could have given them some supplies.

But now that his dad was no longer the base commander, he had no supplies to allocate.

Even if he wanted to help them, his hands were tied.

He could only wait until he earned some Contribution Points and then help them as much as he was able.

Nathan Thorne’s words cast a pall over the group, and everyone fell silent. The atmosphere grew heavy.

But before anyone could comfort him, Nathan Thorne had already composed himself.

"Let’s not talk about that. Those aren’t problems that can be solved overnight. Right now, there’s a much more pressing matter that I need to deal with."

Seeing how seriously Nathan Thorne put it, Sierra Sullivan’s interest was piqued. "What is it? Is it that serious?"

"Of course it’s serious!" Nathan Thorne said in a low voice. "My parents’ place, just like this one, is a one-bedroom apartment where the living room doubles as a kitchen. That means the only place for me to sleep is the sofa. I can make do on the couch for a day or two, but I can’t keep it up forever! Besides, it’s not convenient! So the most important thing right now is to find a place to live!"

Jayce strongly agreed. "I was just thinking about the same thing. We definitely need to find a place to live. When we were on the first floor earlier, I think I saw a housing center. Let’s go check it out in a bit."

"Subterra actually has a housing center?" Nathan Thorne was shocked. "This really is... almost like it was before the apocalypse."

Although he was a little surprised, he was mostly just happy.

If there was a way to solve their housing situation, that was a great thing!
