Teaming Up with My Enemy to Rule the Apocalypse

Chapter 196: Auntie, Don’t Cry. In the Future, Candice Tate Will Earn Contribution Points for You to Spend

It wasn’t as if Sierra Sullivan wanted to see just anyone.

The person she and Jayce were closest to was still Dominic Crawford.

"Where does Captain Crawford live?" Jayce asked.

Hearing Jayce’s words, a smile subconsciously touched Sierra Sullivan’s lips.

’She and Jayce really are on the same wavelength!’

’They were thinking the exact same thing!’

Hector Grant understood. "Captain Crawford, you mean? He’s quite a talent. He should be living on the fourth sublevel. If you want to see him, I can have someone take you to him."

"Then we’d appreciate that, Captain Grant," Sierra Sullivan said with a smile.

Hector Grant stopped. "Alright, things are pretty much settled. I have other business to attend to, so I won’t accompany you any further. You can take a walk around the first sublevel. You might see some things that interest you."

With those parting words, Hector Grant strode away.

Watching Hector Grant’s retreating back, Sierra Sullivan raised an eyebrow.

’Things that would interest us?’

’What could they be?’

’Why can’t he just say what he means instead of deliberately keeping us in suspense!’

Though she was grumbling internally, her interest was genuinely piqued.

But before heading to the first sublevel, they had to go back and find Yvonne Shelby first.

Yvonne Shelby hadn’t come with them, but she was surely worried sick.

Now that everything was resolved, they should go back and tell her to put her mind at ease.

Sure enough.

When they told Yvonne Shelby the outcome, her eyes instantly reddened, and she began to cry tears of joy.

"That’s wonderful! Just wonderful!"

Yvonne Shelby rubbed her eyes and hugged Candice Tate tightly.

Candice Tate was very well-behaved and considerate. She helped wipe Yvonne Shelby’s eyes. "Auntie, don’t cry. In the future, I’ll earn Contribution Points for you to spend!"

Although she was young, Candice Tate already knew that Contribution Points were a good thing.

Just like money from before, you could use them to buy things!

Yvonne Shelby, who had just managed to hold back her tears, felt them welling up again after hearing this.

She was already getting on in years, and now a five-year-old child was saying she would support her.

How could she not be moved?

"Candice Tate, you’re amazing! But Auntie can support you; you don’t need to support Auntie!"

She said this out loud, and she meant it in her heart.

Before, her biggest worry had been Candice Tate.

She was so worried about her that she had no time to think about anything else.

But now, Candice Tate was back safely. With that worry gone, she could start thinking about what she herself could do.

In such a large Subterra with so many types of jobs, there had to be something she could do.

Watching Yvonne Shelby, Sierra Sullivan could more or less guess what she was thinking.

"Aunt Shelby, we’re planning to take a look around the first sublevel. Have you been there before?"

Yvonne Shelby shook her head. "No."

For the past week or so, she had been mentally and physically exhausted every day. How could she have had the energy to wander around?

"If you haven’t been either, Aunt Shelby, let’s all go check it out together!" Sierra Sullivan suggested.

Yvonne Shelby also wanted to get a better understanding of Subterra, so she readily agreed.

She went into the bedroom and came out a moment later with a small bag.

Yvonne Shelby opened it, revealing a stack of notes.

The notes had various denominations, similar in face value to the old currency, but the number was followed by the two words "Contribution Points."

"This is the advance on Mr. Everett’s salary. Let’s take it with us. If we want to buy something, we can."

’They even give salary advances!’

Sierra Sullivan looked at Jayce with a smile. "Captain Grant must have deliberately hidden this from us, and Director Lowell intentionally didn’t mention it either. Otherwise, we could have gotten an advance of six thousand Contribution Points."

Hearing Sierra Sullivan say this, Jayce laughed out loud. "If that had happened, Director Lowell probably would have been heartbroken."

Thinking about the look Director Lowell might have had on his face, Sierra Sullivan laughed as well.

After locking the door, the group quickly arrived at the first sublevel.

They had only passed through here in a hurry yesterday. Although they were shocked, they hadn’t gotten a good look.

Returning now, they finally had the time and the state of mind to observe it carefully.

The huge plaza was bustling with people coming and going.

Some people looked rushed, while others strolled leisurely.

The rushed ones usually had shabby clothes and poor complexions. One glance told you their lives weren’t easy, and they were probably busy trying to earn Contribution Points.

As for those who strolled leisurely, their clothes and appearance were not much different from before the apocalypse.

Some of the women even wore exquisite makeup.

Putting on makeup is a time-consuming affair.

Removing it also requires time, effort, and water.

Just by looking at their makeup, you could tell their lives were quite comfortable.

Although Subterra never saw the light of day, it had, in a way, allowed them to live lives not so different from before the apocalypse.

Sierra Sullivan felt a pang of emotion, but only a small one.

She had long understood that no matter how harsh the environment or how difficult survival was, there would always be some people in this world who could live better and more comfortably than others.

It was an unchangeable and unavoidable fact, something one could only learn to accept.

Sierra Sullivan had little interest in the people coming and going.

She was more interested in the various shops surrounding the plaza.

The shops closest to them already displayed a dazzling array of goods.

The one selling daily necessities had basically everything you could think of.

The one selling clothes, shoes, jewelry, and cosmetics carried all sorts of pre-apocalypse brand names.

There was also a weapon shop.

Sierra Sullivan and the others went in to take a look and found all kinds of melee weapons.

However, they didn’t see any firearms.

’They probably can’t be sold openly.’

Firearms weren’t very effective against Aberrant Beasts and zombies, but they were still very lethal against humans.

If they were sold openly, who knows how much trouble would break out in the base every day.

Although these types of shops had customers, there weren’t many.

The places that were truly bustling and highly sought after were the various restaurants, snack stalls, and shops selling grain and cooking oil.

Sierra Sullivan observed carefully. The staff in these shops were mostly Superpower Users. There were guards at the entrances and inside the shops, each equipped with both melee weapons and firearms, constantly patrolling back and forth.

Anyone who dared to cause trouble would absolutely be riddled with holes in seconds.

After all, this was the apocalypse, and food was still of paramount importance.

You couldn’t guarantee some people wouldn’t try to dine and dash, or harbor other ill intentions.

Without these precautions, they probably wouldn’t even dare to open a shop.

Sierra Sullivan saw several types of pre-apocalypse snacks, mostly made from flour or rice.

Sierra Sullivan wasn’t tempted; she had plenty of food in her storage space.

But Candice Tate was still young. After seeing so much and smelling the aromas in the air, it was inevitable that she would get a little hungry.

Seeing Candice Tate silently swallowing her saliva, Yvonne Shelby’s heart ached for her. "Are you hungry, Candice? What do you want to eat? Auntie will buy it for you!"

Candice Tate’s eyes lit up. "I want to eat a sponge cake..."

"Okay!" Yvonne Shelby agreed with a smile. "Auntie will buy you a sponge cake right now!"
