Chapter 817: Seizing Every Opportunity
Preston Vance didn’t want to dwell on either possibility; both were equally upsetting. He waded directly into the pool next to theirs and asked, "How many days do you plan to stay here?"
Fiona Linton looked at Chloe Reed, tilting her head. "Chloe, how long do you want to stay?"
Chloe kept her eyes closed, quietly enjoying the soak, and enunciated each word, "I’m. Not. Sure. Yet."
Fiona laughed. "So, we’ll leave whenever we feel like leaving."
Chloe nodded.
Preston sighed softly. "Today is my only free day. I have to go back tomorrow morning."
"Is it for the relatives coming over to pay New Year visits?" Fiona asked.
"Yeah," Preston replied. He then gave a bitter smile. "And right after that comes the endless nagging about getting married. It’s such a headache."
Fiona lowered her gaze slightly. "My neighbors nag about it too, but I never listen." She looked at Chloe again and couldn’t help but add, "Chloe, it was really brave of you to choose to get married back then."
Hearing this, Chloe’s long eyelashes fluttered slightly.
Because at that time, she and Walker Grant were in love, and their feelings for each other were already very deep. Plus, she hadn’t wanted to stay home anymore to watch Charles Reed and Autumn Linton show such blatant favoritism toward Sunny Reed. She had wanted to marry Walker, the man who was wholly devoted to her. She wanted to enjoy being someone’s sole exception and receiving all their favor.
But who could have guessed that there was no such thing as being the exception?
She had lost the gamble, even though they had built a foundation of love.
A dense, sour ache spread through her chest. Chloe stopped herself from dwelling on it, and the suffocating tightness finally eased a bit.
The phone resting on the small side cabinet chimed. She picked it up and saw a message from Annie York.
Annie York: [Chloe, I’m already home. Don’t worry about me, and I hope you guys have fun!]
Chloe frowned slightly. The drive from here to Annie’s house should take an hour at most. With no traffic jams today for the New Year, she shouldn’t have been this slow. She immediately typed back to ask.
Chloe: [Why so late? Was the trip back okay?]
Annie York: [It was fine. I went to the supermarket to buy some things, which is why I’m only texting you now.]
Annie York: [Don’t worry about me. I’m going to rest now.]
Chloe: [Okay.]
Putting her phone away, she finally dismissed her doubts. Just then, she noticed a message Walker had sent her. It was a voice note. Upon tapping it, the man’s deep, magnetic voice sounded.
"Chloe, I miss you."
Fiona was right beside her and heard it clearly. She immediately curled her lip in disgust. "So cheesy."
Chloe ignored the remark. She placed her phone back on the cabinet and went back to enjoying the hot spring.
Grant Family Estate.
Walker had been waiting for Chloe’s reply. Unfortunately, despite replaying the voice messages in his phone over and over, there was still no word from her.
The man’s thin lips pressed into a straight line. He couldn’t help but think of the report his bodyguards had given him. Preston Vance had also gone to Soltara. That man really never missed an opportunity to wedge himself in! He was everywhere!
"Walker, time to eat."
Judith Pierce’s smiling voice rang out just then. She walked over and supported Walker’s arm. "Come on, I’ll walk you to the washroom."
Walker put away his phone and nodded, his expression completely indifferent.
When they arrived at the dining table, Noah greeted him very obediently.
"Uncle Walker."
