Chapter 644 - 642: Daddy
The Golden Saber Expert from the Blood Hand Gang was slain with a single sword strike.
It was practically an instant kill.
At that moment, Feng Qi and Feng Hu were utterly stunned.
They stared blankly at the spot where the Golden Saber Expert had vanished. Not even a trace remained.
"GULP..."
Feng Qi swallowed hard, his mouth hanging open.
Feng Hu nearly collapsed, utterly horrified.
’The Golden Saber Expert... is dead, just like that?’
Moments ago, the Golden Saber Expert had nearly wiped out the entire City Lord’s Mansion. Now, Jiang Chen had killed him in an instant.
Even with their strong hearts, the father and son found it impossible to believe.
Jiang Chen slowly sheathed his sword.
His expression was cold and detached.
Feng Qi quickly said to Feng Hu, "Son, help me over there. We must thank Young Master Jiang."
Since the man in black was from the Blood Hand Gang, it never crossed their minds that Jiang Chen might have hired an assassin from that very same group.
With the power Jiang Chen had just displayed, he had no need to hire an assassin to deal with the City Lord’s Mansion.
They also realized what a correct choice it had been to maintain good relations with Chenxi Pavilion.
Soon, Feng Hu was helping his father, Feng Qi, stand before Jiang Chen.
The two of them bowed deeply and respectfully to Jiang Chen.
"Thank you for saving our lives, Young Master Jiang."
Their attitude was one of utmost reverence. After all, Jiang Chen had not only saved them, but the entire City Lord’s Mansion as well.
A mere bow was nothing; they were tempted to kneel and kowtow.
Jiang Chen waved his hand. "Think nothing of it. Since I gave the Black Fire to the City Lord’s Mansion, I was bound to intervene if you were in trouble."
Feng Qi quickly replied, "Young Master, we can never repay this immense kindness. In the future, if you ever need anything from the City Lord’s Mansion, you have only to ask."
He spoke with great sincerity.
Just moments ago, he had been a hair’s breadth away from death at the hands of the man in black.
However, Feng Qi then added, "Young Master Jiang, the man you just killed was from the Blood Hand Gang. They certainly won’t let this matter rest."
"You must be careful as well."
Jiang Chen nodded.
He learned a little about the Blood Hand Gang from Feng Qi.
He didn’t seem too concerned, however.
Without lingering, Jiang Chen left the City Lord’s Mansion.
Watching Jiang Chen leave without asking for any reward, the Feng father and son felt as if they were in a dream.
"This Young Master Jiang... he’s truly unfathomable."
"He must have an extraordinary background."
"Hu’er, from now on, you must give Chenxi Pavilion every convenience. As long as they remain in Xingyuan City, our City Lord’s Mansion will be their right-hand man."
Feng Qi was going all in. This time, he was determined to latch onto Chenxi Pavilion for support.
"Yes, Father."
Feng Hu was also thrilled. Now that the City Lord’s Mansion was allied with Chenxi Pavilion, it would be a huge boon for them in the future.
But then he let out a sigh.
"It’s just a shame Young Master Jiang didn’t leave us any more Black Fire."
"What will we do the next time the City Lord’s Mansion is in danger?"
They had been so confident before, but after their encounter with the Golden Saber Expert, they realized the City Lord’s Mansion was truly vulnerable.
Never mind the Blood Hand Gang; they couldn’t even afford to provoke the two great Artifact Refining Families of Xingyuan City.
"It was good enough that Chenxi Pavilion was able to help us this time."
"What we need to do now is raise our Cultivation as quickly as possible. The Elixirs Chenxi Pavilion gave us should be enough to give us the power to protect ourselves."
After settling the affairs of the City Lord’s Mansion, Feng Qi and Feng Hu immediately took the Elixirs and entered secluded training to raise their Cultivation.
As for Jiang Chen, he walked out of the City Lord’s Mansion.
He walked alone through the streets of Xingyuan City under the night sky.
Since it was late, few people were out. The occasional pedestrian hurried along their way.
"SOB SOB SOB..."
Just then, Jiang Chen heard the faint sound of crying coming from the end of the street.
It sounded like a small child.
Jiang Chen frowned slightly. Without a second thought, he quickened his pace and headed toward the sound.
Soon, as he rounded a corner, he saw a small, solitary figure standing there.
As he drew closer, Jiang Chen could see that it was a little girl in a white dress.
The little girl stood in the corner, constantly wiping away her tears.
’She must be lost,’ he thought.
Jiang Chen walked over to the little girl and crouched down, bringing himself to her eye level.
He looked at the little girl. Noticing him, she slowly stopped crying.
She wiped her tears and looked up at Jiang Chen with a pitiful gaze.
"Little one, why are you all by yourself?"
Jiang Chen asked the little girl.
A lost little girl could easily run into danger in a world like this.
Feeling compassionate, he decided to help her.
The little girl was adorable, with her hair tied in two high pigtails.
Even in the darkness, her bright, starlike eyes were clearly visible, full of life.
But right now, tears were streaming down her face.
"WAAAAH..."
At Jiang Chen’s question, the little girl suddenly burst into tears.
Then, she suddenly rushed forward and threw herself into Jiang Chen’s arms, tears streaming down her face.
"Daddy, Daddy..."
The little girl cried, calling out for her daddy.
Jiang Chen froze.
’Daddy?’
The little girl had actually mistaken him for her father.
He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
He quickly patted the little girl’s small back, comforting her, "Don’t cry. Don’t be afraid."
"But I’m not your daddy. You must have the wrong person."
He assumed she had mistaken him for someone else in the dark.
But the little girl clutched his clothes tightly and refused to leave his arms.
"No, you are my daddy."
"Daddy, don’t leave your Little Xixi."
"Daddy..."
Jiang Chen was speechless.
In the end, he simply picked the little girl up.
He freed one hand to wipe away her tears.
He asked, "Did you get separated from your family?"
The little girl shook her head.
She looked at Jiang Chen with wide, pitiful eyes.
"No, you’re my daddy."
Jiang Chen was at a loss. It seemed the little girl had been badly frightened.
Wanting to help her get home, he had no choice but to ask, "Well, can you tell me your name?"
The little girl immediately replied in a clear, bright voice, "My name is Little Xixi."
The name only made Jiang Chen feel more helpless. ’A little Angel,’ he mused. After all, every child is their family’s little Angel.
He asked again, "Do you know where your home is?"
"I can take you home."
Little Xixi instantly threw her arms around Jiang Chen’s neck.
She said with a wronged pout, "You’re my daddy. Take me home."
"Xixi will go with Daddy."
Jiang Chen looked completely helpless.
This little girl was utterly convinced that he was her daddy.
His expression was troubled.
It was obvious he wouldn’t be able to get the little girl back to her home now, especially at this hour.
After a moment’s thought, he decided to take the girl back to his place for now.
He could try to find her family in the morning.
