Chapter 209: Better Live This Time
NO ONE’S POV
Elias hummed a playful tune as he walked toward his car, spinning his keys around his finger. A wide grin stretched across his face. He couldn’t stop the laughter bubbling up in his chest. Finally. After all these years, he had won. He had destroyed the estate, ruined Lucian, and put that arrogant little maid back in her place.
Ring... Ring...
His phone vibrated violently in his pocket. Elias pulled it out, annoyed by the interruption, and swiped the screen open.
"Boss! The files... all our offshore account files are gone!" the frantic voice of his main IT director screamed through the speaker.
Elias’s eyes darkened instantly, his triumphant smile dropping. "What do you mean, gone?"
"The main databases! We can’t access anything! Someone leaked our entire illegal network to the federal authorities just two minutes ago! We’re completely ruined-"
Elias’s blood ran ice-cold in his veins. Before he could even process the caller’s words, the line went dead.
Ding.
A new message notification popped up on his screen. Elias tapped it open with a trembling thumb. His breath hitched in his throat.
It was a clear photo of the top assassin he had personally sent to Viella’s bedroom just an hour ago. The man was lying crumpled on the floor, lifeless, a clean slice across his throat.
Elias’s hands began to shake with purerage. The photo had been sent directly from Lily’s phone number.
How?! Elias frowned, his chest heaving. She’s battered and bruised on the floor right now... wasn’t she?!
Grasping his gun, Elias turned on his shoel and marched back toward the dimly lit dock warehouse. As he rounded the rusted metal container, the faint smell of fresh blood hit his nose. He stepped closer, only to freeze in his tracks.
His two burly enforcers were lying face down in pool of their own blood, stone dead.
Elias frantically spun around, scanning the shadowed corners of the docks. There was no sign of Lily anywhere. Panic finally beginning to seep into his chest, he raised his phone to make another call.
Click.
A cold metal barrel pressed firmly against the back of his head.
"Looking for someone?" a voice whispered.
Elias turned around slowly, his teeth grinding together as he met a gaze that chilled him to the bone. Lily stood before him, her dark hair falling wild around her shoulders. She reached up, carelessly wiping a streak of dark blood from her lip, and offered him a slow, terrifying smile.
"What?" Lily purred softly, her dark eyes glinting with a lethal light. "You thought I wouldn’t remember anything...? Enzo?"
Elias’s eyes quivered violently at the sound of his old name. "You bitch...!" he roared, stepping forward.
"Shhh..." Lily tutted softly, digging the steel barrel harder into his forehead until he was forced to step back. "Your pathetic little life is entirely in my hands right now, so I suggest you be very careful with your words."
She casually glanced over at the crate where he had tossed the stolen folder, letting out a soft, mocking chuckle. "And don’t believe everything you see."
Elias’s gaze darted to the folder. Desperate, he snatched it open, frantically flipping through the pages under the dim moonlight. His face drained of all color. The pages weren’t financial records or family secrets at all- they were worthless, blank business templates with fake seals stamped across them.
She landed a brutal punch straight across his jaw, the exact same spot he had struck her earlier.
The heavy force sent Elias crashing down onto his knees, spitting blood onto the concrete.
Before he could recover, Lily reached inside her jacket, pulled out a thick set of documents- the ones she had pulled from Dante’s mansion days ago and tossed them onto his bleeding face.
"You thought placing those fake slave records in the underworld registry would fool me easily?" Lily asked, her voice dripping with pure disdain. "I knew they were fake from the very beginning. But thanks to your pathetic little scheme... I found my real brother."
Elias wiped his mouth, his breathing ragged as he glared up at her in utter disbelief. "How... how are you standing right now?! Your memories were erased!"
Lily took a slow step toward him, her shadow completely engulfing his bruised body. "Aren’t you curious how I regained my memories, Enzo?" She raised a hand and pointed straight at the bleeding gash on her temple where his boot had struck her earlier. "Thanks to your little hit right here. That blow to the head helped me recover every single detail you tried to wipe out."
Before Elias could utter another word, Lily delivered another kick straight into his ribs.
Crack!
Elias doubled over with a agonized scream, coughing up a mouthful of blood onto the cold, wet stone.
Meanwhile, a black sports car was tearing through the quiet city streets at dangerous speeds.
Lucian gripped the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned stark white.
Just twenty minutes ago, he had uncovered the truth: it was Lily who had breached his private office. It was Lily who had attempted to sabotage his family’s corporate network and hand over confidential information to their worst enemy.
Yet, as the wind roared past his open window, Lucian’s face remained devoid of any anger or hatred.
He didn’t care that she had tried to ruin him. He didn’t care if she had used him, lied to him, or hated his very existence. None of that mattered anymore. The moment he had realized his true feelings for her back on that terrace, everything had shifted. Good or bad, gentle or dangerous... she was his to handle, and he was never letting her go.
He wasn’t driving to the docks to demand answers or punish her. He was driving there for one reason only: to tear apart whoever had dared to put a weapon in her hands, and to pull her out of the dark once and for all.
As the rusted cranes of the shipping docks appeared on the horizon, Lucian slammed his foot harder onto the accelerator, his eyes fixed on the shadows ahead.
Lily raised her weapon, her eyes cold and unyielding, ready to end Elias once and for all. But before she could pull the trigger, a loud BANG echoed across the empty docks.
Across the warehouse, Alina stood trembling, the handgun slipping from her numb fingers and clattering against the floor. A fresh wave of blood began to soak through the shoulder of her dress where a stray bullet had grazed her, and she collapsed onto her knees, clutching her bleeding arm in pain.
Lily turned her head just as footsteps sprinted through the entrance. Lucian burst into the dim warehouse, his breath ragged, his eyes widening in pure shock as he took in the chaotic scene- Lily holding a gun to Elias’s head.
"Lily!" Lucian called out, his voice laced with worry.
Before he could reach her, the sound of cocking guns echoed from every corner of the dark ceiling rafters. A dozens of Elias’s hidden guards swarmed out from the shadows, surrounding Lucian, and Lily, their weapons aimed straight at them.
Elias let out a raspy, crazed laugh, wiping the blood from his mouth as he slowly forced himself back onto his feet. "Look at that..." Elias mocked, his eyes gleaming with dark delight. "It seems like the knight in shining armor can’t save you anymore!"
At Elias’s command, his men opened fire.
Lucian didn’t hesitate for a single second. Ignoring the deadly rain of bullets, he lunged forward and threw his broad body completely over Lily, shielding her from the gunfire. A muffled groan escaped his lips as a stray bullet grazed his ribs and another tore through his upper arm, but he held her tightly against his chest, refusing to move an inch.
As Lucian’s warm blood dripped onto her cheek, something deep inside Lily finally broke. The cold, assassin vanished, replaced by a sudden, overwhelming wave of fear and possession. Looking up at his pained face, at the raw devotion in his dark eyes as he protected her with his life, the truth finally hit her with clarity. She wanted him. She didn’t care about her past or her bloody hands anymore- Lucian belonged to her, and she was never letting him go.
Suddenly, the metal doors of the warehouse blew completely off.
Dante stepped through the smoke, flanked by dozens of armed Moretti operatives. Within seconds, Dante’s men overwhelmed Elias’s guards, disarming them and slamming Elias hard onto the cold concrete.
"Secure the perimeter and drag Elias away," Dante ordered coldly, his voice slicing through the chaos as his men dragged a screaming Elias out into the night.
Dante immediately turned toward Lily, reaching down to unbutton his dark wool coat to wrap it around his injured sister. But before he could even step closer, Lucian snapped his head up, his eyes blazing with intense possessiveness.
Despite his own bleeding wounds, Lucian stripped off his coat and tightly wrapped it around Lily’s trembling shoulders, pulling her against his chest and glaring up at Dante. "She’s mine. I’ve got her."
Dante paused, seeing the fierce, unwavering mark of ownership in Lucian’s eyes. He gave a quiet, nod and stepped back, letting Lucian hold her.
"Lucian..." Lily whispered softly, her fingers tightly clutching the lapels of his warm coat. She tried to reach up to touch his face, to tell him that she was his, but her body was rapidly losing its strength.
The heavy blood loss from her earlier beatings and the frantic fight finally caught up to her. Her vision began to blur into dark spots. The sounds of the warehouse grew muffled and distant, as if she were sinking deep underwater.
"Lily? Lily, stay with me!" Lucian’s frantic voice sounded far away. His hands cupped her face, his eyes filled with pure panic as he felt her body go completely limp in his arms. "Open your eyes! Don’t you dare close your eyes!"
His panicked words slurred into an unrecognizable murmur as darkness completely engulfed her mind, and Lily fainted into his arms.
Lucian’s breath hitched as Lily’s head fell softly against his collarbone, her breathing faint and shallow. Holding her limp, weightless body in his arms, a sudden pang tore through the very center of his chest.
It was a strange sensation- an overwhelming phantom echo that struck him deep in his soul. For some reason, as he stared down at her pale face, it felt as though he had already lost her once before. Maybe in another lifetime, in some distant, tragic past where they were ripped apart by secrets, blood, and shadows, leaving him with nothing but endless regret.
His chest tightened so hard it became painful to breathe.
Lucian gathered her even closer against his heart, his grip tightening around his coat wrapped tightly over her shoulders. The warmth of his own blood mixed with hers, but he didn’t care about the pain in his ribs or his arm. Not anymore.
Not this time, he swore silently, his jaw clenching as a single vow took root in his mind. I don’t care if the entire world stands between us. I am never letting you go again.
