Incubus Lord: Lust Harem System

Chapter 256: Tournament Registration & The Dark Horse

The Azure Dragon Seven left the Sky-Sovereign Hotel at dawn.

Solaris City was already awake, its streets packed with cultivators from every corner of the Eastern Continent.

Street vendors hawked spirit-grade snacks. Merchants displayed weapons and pills on portable tables. Children ran between the legs of towering warriors, laughing.

Damon led the group through the chaos.

Ariel walked at his right, her dark blue hair catching the morning light.

Mio and Mia flanked him, their purple hair tied in matching high ponytails. Seraphina followed close behind, her silver hair flowing.

Alena carried a leather satchel filled with vials. Flare walked at the rear, her crimson eyes scanning the crowd.

Selene and Mei brought up the back, their elder auras keeping the curious at bay.

Lumina walked in the middle of the formation, still disguised as Lark.

She had not spoken since they left the hotel.

The Great Solaris Arena rose ahead of them, a massive structure of white stone and gold trim that could seat fifty thousand spectators.

Its outer walls were carved with reliefs depicting legendary battles. Its gates stood open, guarded by Royal Guards in golden armor.

The Azure Dragon delegation passed through without issue.

Inside, the registration hall was a cavern of polished marble. Long tables stretched across the floor, each manned by officials in Solaris family colors. Representatives from the major sects stood in lines, presenting their tokens and receiving their brackets.

Damon approached the central table.

The official looked up, a middle-aged man with sharp eyes and a neatly trimmed beard. He wore the Solaris crest on his chest.

"Name and sect," the official said.

"Damon Arcknight. Azure Dragon Sect."

The official scanned a jade slip, then paused.

"Cultivation?"

Damon smiled.

"Heavenly Spirit Realm. First Level."

The official’s eyes widened. He checked the slip again.

"First Level? At your age?"

"Eighteen," Damon said.

The official wrote something down, his hand trembling slightly.

"Very well. You’re registered."

Damon stepped aside, letting Ariel approach next.

She gave her details with practiced grace, her voice steady.

The process continued.

Mio and Mia registered as Heavenly Spirit Realm cultivators, drawing stares from nearby officials.

Seraphina’s registration went smoothly.

Alena’s did too.

Flare stepped up and declared her cultivation as Heavenly Spirit Realm Third Level, her Phoenix Bloodline causing the official’s pen to crack.

He replaced it without comment.

Lark stepped forward last.

"Heavenly Spirit Realm First Level," she said.

The official nodded and marked the slip.

Damon watched her.

She kept her face neutral, her posture perfect, her voice even.

But he saw the way her fingers pressed into her palms.

He saw the way her jaw tightened.

He saw the way she looked at the other registrants, at the core disciples from the White Tiger Sect and the Vermillion Bird Sect, at the way they moved with easy confidence.

She did not have that confidence.

Not today.

Damon turned his attention to the crowd, scanning for the figure he had noticed earlier.

Kael.

He found him standing alone near the far wall, away from the other competitors.

Kael was tall and lean, with dark hair that fell across his face. His robes were plain, unmarked by any sect emblem. His eyes were the color of ash.

And his aura was cold.

Not cold like Selene’s frost — cold like the void between stars. Empty. Hungry. Waiting.

Damon’s Incubus Celestial Eyes activated automatically.

[Name: Kael]

[Cultivation: Heavenly Spirit Realm – Ninth Level]

[Spiritual Roots: Unknown]

[Bloodline: Unknown]

The system offered no further information.

That was rare.

Damon studied Kael’s movements.

The way he stood.

The way his hands hung at his sides, relaxed but ready.

The way his gaze swept the room without stopping on anyone.

He was a weapon.

A hidden blade.

And Damon knew, with absolute certainty, that this man would be his greatest challenge in the tournament.

Kael’s eyes met Damon’s across the hall.

For a moment, neither moved.

Then Kael turned and walked away, disappearing into the crowd.

Damon exhaled.

He had not realized he was holding his breath.

The ranking list was posted on a massive jade board that materialized above the registration tables.

Names appeared in glowing script, arranged by cultivation level and sect affiliation.

The crowd pressed forward to read it.

Damon found his name near the top.

The list continued with representatives from other sects.

But Damon only cared about one thing.

Lark’s rank.

Second lowest.

Just above Ariel.

He turned to look at her.

She stood frozen, her pale blue eyes fixed on the board, on her name, on the number beside it.

Her face was a mask of calm.

But her hands trembled.

Damon saw the cracks forming in her composure, the way her breathing hitched, the way her gaze flickered from her name to the names above her.

To Damon’s name.

To Seraphina’s.

To the twins’.

To Flare’s.

To Alena’s.

Everyone but Ariel was ranked above her.

And Ariel was a full realm below her.

The shame was visible.

Damon stepped closer to her.

"Lark," he said softly.

She did not respond.

Her eyes remained fixed on the board, on her name, on the number that told the world she was the second weakest member of the Azure Dragon delegation.

He saw her swallow.

He saw her blink.

He saw her hands clench into fists at her sides.

Then she turned away from the board, her face composed, her eyes clear.

"I’m fine," she said.

But her voice cracked on the second word.

Damon did not push.

He simply stood beside her, letting her know he was there, letting her feel his presence without demanding anything from her.

The group gathered around them.

Ariel looked at the board, then at Lark, then at Damon.

She understood.

They all did.

But no one said anything.

The officials called for the next round of registrations, and the crowd shifted, and the moment passed.

Lark walked ahead of the group, her back straight, her steps measured.

Damon followed.

He watched her.

He saw the way her shoulders held tension, the way her gait was just a little too controlled, the way she did not look back at the board.

She was running.

From the board.

From the tournament.

From herself.

And Damon knew that if she did not stop running, she would fall.

He would catch her.

But she had to let him.

The group exited the registration hall into the morning light, and the city roared around them, and Lark walked at the front, alone.
