Chapter 249: The Night's Plan [2]
Midnight came.
The mansion fell quiet.
The kind of deep, heavy silence that only settled over a place when everyone inside had surrendered completely to sleep.
Damon lay still on his bed, staring at the ceiling, feeling the weight of the hour press down on the world outside his window.
Neko lay curled beside him, completely naked, her silver hair splayed across the pillow like a pool of liquid moonlight.
Her breathing was slow and deep, her lips slightly parted, her small chest rising and falling with the rhythm of a child who had eaten far too much and finally succumbed to the inevitable nap.
She had gorged herself on his lightning until her tiny body simply couldn't take any more.
Then she had yawned, shifted into her human form, and collapsed against him without a word.
Now she slept like the dead, her tiger ears twitching occasionally in her dreams, her tail wrapped loosely around his ankle.
Damon smiled down at her for a moment, then slowly, carefully, extracted himself from her grip.
He sat up on the edge of the bed and closed his eyes.
His spiritual sense expanded outward, flowing through the mansion like an invisible tide.
He felt every room, every corner, every shadow.
Ariel was asleep in her room, her breathing steady and calm.
Mio and Mia were tangled together in the guest chamber, their Qi pulses synchronized in the deep rest that followed a long day of training.
Seraphina lay still in the room beside them, her Azure Dragon Bloodline humming faintly beneath her skin even in sleep.
Alena was in the alchemy study, slumped over her workbench with a half-ground herb still clutched in her hand. She had clearly fallen asleep mid-experiment.
Flare was in the room at the end of the hall, her Phoenix Bloodline flickering like a dying ember beneath her ribs.
And Selene.
Selene was in her room at the far end of the eastern wing.
Her Qi was calm. Steady. Completely unguarded.
She was asleep.
'Perfect.'
Damon rose from the bed and activated Eternal Darkness's Broken Shadow Art.
The shadows in the room reached for him, wrapping around his body like a living cloak. His form dissolved into the darkness, becoming nothing more than a patch of deeper black against the dim moonlight streaming through the window.
He moved toward the balcony doors, silent as a ghost, and slipped through the gap without making a sound.
The night air greeted him the instant he crossed the threshold onto the balcony, cool and crisp against his skin, carrying with it the faint scent of pine resin and distant rain.
The moon hung full and heavy overhead, casting the entire compound in a wash of pale silver light that painted sharp, clean shadows across every rooftop and courtyard wall below.
He stepped up onto the stone railing without hesitation, his bare feet finding the narrow edge with the effortless balance of a cultivator who had long since left such trivial concerns as gravity far behind.
The drop below was considerable. Forty feet, perhaps more. It barely registered.
He activated Astral Steps.
The technique seized him in an instant, his body dissolving at the edges like smoke caught in a sudden draught, the shadows of the Broken Shadow Art folding around the spatial displacement with seamless, practiced ease.
The world blurred.
The moonlit stone of his own balcony smeared sideways like wet ink dragged across parchment.
And then it snapped back into focus.
He was standing on Selene's balcony, the soft crunch of frost-dusted stone barely whispering beneath his feet as he landed without a sound, without so much as a ripple in the still night air.
The eastern wing stretched away behind him, dark and silent. The windows of the other rooms were black.
He turned toward her balcony door.
It was slightly ajar. A single, narrow crack, barely wide enough to slip two fingers through, the faint breath of her cold Qi drifting out through the gap like the first whisper of a winter morning.
'What a careless woman.'
Or perhaps she had left it open deliberately, hoping he would come.
Either way, it made his job easier.
He pushed the door open with the tip of his finger, moving it millimeter by millimeter until the gap was wide enough for him to slide through.
The door didn't make a sound.
He stepped inside.
Selene's room was bathed in pale silver light, the curtains drawn but thin enough to let the moonlight filter through in soft, diffused bands.
The air smelled like frost and night-blooming flowers.
And there she was.
Selene Frostborn lay on her bed, her platinum-white hair fanned out across the pillow like a frozen waterfall. Her sleeping gown was a thin, silken thing, the color of pale ice, clinging to every curve of her body with an almost deliberate intimacy.
The fabric was so sheer he could see the outline of her nipples beneath it, two dark points pressing against the silk.
Her breasts rose and fell with each slow breath, full and heavy, straining against the thin material.
The gown had ridden up slightly in her sleep, exposing the smooth, pale skin of her thighs all the way up to the curve of her hip.
She was beautiful.
'Goddamn, She was beautiful.'
Damon felt the heat rise in his chest.
His cock hardened instantly, pressing against the fabric of his robes with an urgency that was hard to ignore.
Every instinct in his body screamed at him to cross the room, tear that flimsy gown off her body, and bury himself inside her.
She wouldn't stop him.
She was his woman.
She had surrendered to him completely, body and soul.
But that wasn't the point of tonight.
He wanted to see if she would respond without knowing.
He took a slow, steadying breath.
Then he approached the bed.
His footsteps made no sound on the polished stone floor.
The shadows clung to him, hiding his presence, masking his Qi, erasing every trace of his existence from the world.
Even a King Spirit Realm cultivator like Selene wouldn't sense him until he was close enough to touch her.
He stopped at the edge of the bed.
