Chapter 237: Flare’s Feelings
Damon held the pills in his palm, the crimson glow casting soft shadows across his fingers.
"Everyone. Come here."
Ariel stirred first, blinking sleep from her vivid blue eyes.
Mio and Mia untangled themselves from each other, stretching like cats.
Alena looked up from her herbs, curiosity flickering across her sun-kissed face.
Seraphina opened one emerald eye from her meditation posture but did not rise.
Flare stayed in the corner, arms crossed, pretending not to listen.
Damon waited until Ariel, Mio, Mia, and Alena stood before him.
He extended his hand, revealing five bloodline pills and five physique pills arranged in neat rows.
"These are for you."
Ariel reached out and took one without hesitation.
She examined it for half a second, shrugged, and swallowed it like a common recovery pill.
"Thanks, Damon."
Mio grabbed hers next.
She popped it into her mouth and chewed twice before swallowing.
"Tastes sweet."
Mia followed suit, her shy fingers brushing Damon’s palm as she took her pill. S
he placed it on her tongue and swallowed, her cheeks flushing.
"Mm."
Alena was the last to take hers.
She picked up the bloodline pill with careful, precise fingers.
Her forest-green eyes narrowed as she brought it close to her face, turning it slowly in the light.
Her breath caught.
"This is..." Her voice dropped to a whisper.
"This is a Heaven Grade pill."
She rotated it again, her alchemist instincts taking over completely.
"The purity. I’ve never seen anything like this." She held it up to the dim cave light, watching the crimson energy swirl inside.
"Only a Grandmaster Alchemist could produce something like this. Maybe even a Grandmaster at the peak of their craft."
She looked at Damon, her sharp eyes searching his face.
"Where did you get this, Damon? Who made it?"
Damon met her gaze evenly. He had expected this reaction from her.
Alena was too knowledgeable, too perceptive to simply swallow a pill without understanding its origin.
He smiled, a slow and easy expression that carried no boasting — merely the calm certainty of someone who had nothing left to prove.
"I can teach you to make them yourself."
Alena froze.
The pill sat motionless between her fingertips.
Her forest-green eyes snapped up to his face, searching for some trace of a jest, some flicker of exaggeration she could dismiss.
She found none.
"What?" The single word came out barely above a breath.
"Flawless pills. Heaven Grade. Whatever tier you want to reach."
He tilted his head slightly, regarding her with that unhurried golden gaze.
"I can train you directly. The process, the balance, the refinement — all of it."
The words settled into the quiet of the cave like a stone dropped into still water, and the ripples spread slowly outward.
For a long moment, nothing moved.
Alena simply stared at him, her analytical mind working furiously to measure the claim against everything she knew about alchemy, about purity grades, about the decades of solitary mastery required to reach such heights.
Every instinct she possessed as a dedicated alchemist screamed that this should have been impossible.
Yet the pill — warm, luminous, perfect — was undeniable proof.
Then Alena’s composure shattered entirely.
She let out a sound that was half laugh, half sob of joy.
The pill slipped from her fingers and she caught it instinctively, but she did not care about dignity anymore.
She jumped at Damon.
Her arms wrapped around his neck and her lips crashed against his.
The kiss was fierce, desperate, full of gratitude and something deeper that she had not yet put into words.
She pressed herself against him, her body trembling with excitement.
Damon’s hands found her waist, steadying her as she kissed him.
When she finally pulled back, her face was flushed crimson, her breath coming in short gasps.
"I’m sorry. I just—" She looked down, embarrassed.
"That’s the most generous thing anyone has ever offered me."
Damon brushed a strand of hair from her face.
"Then let’s get started."
Ariel, Mio, and Mia watched with knowing smiles.
Seraphina rose from her meditation and walked toward Damon, her lime-green hair swaying with each step. She stopped in front of him, her emerald eyes sharp.
"You gave pills to everyone except me."
Her voice was calm, but there was an edge to it.
Damon met her gaze.
"Your bloodline and physique are already at Heaven Grade. You don’t need them."
Seraphina blinked. She considered his words for a moment, then nodded slowly.
"I see."
She stepped back, satisfied with the answer, and resumed her position near the cave entrance.
In the corner, Flare watched everything.
Her orange eyes tracked Damon as he spoke to Alena, as he touched her waist, as he smiled at her.
She saw the way Ariel looked at him. The way Mio and Mia gravitated toward him like moths to a flame.
The way Seraphina accepted his explanation without question.
And she felt it.
A small, bitter knot forming in her chest.
’He’s kind to them. He gives them everything. Pills. Techniques. His time. His body.’
She clenched her fists.
’And what did he give me? He saved my life. He fixed my cultivation. He awakened my bloodline.’
Her pride bristled.
’I don’t need him. I can do this myself. I don’t need to be one of his women, begging for scraps of his attention.’
But the envy remained.
It sat in her stomach like a stone, heavy and deeply uncomfortable, refusing to dissolve no matter how many times she reminded herself she didn’t care.
She watched Alena laugh—bright, unguarded—and wrap her arms around Damon’s waist with the easy warmth of someone who knew exactly where she belonged.
There was nothing performative about it.
Alena’s joy was unfiltered, effortless—and Damon received it just as naturally, his hand settling at her back like it belonged there.
Flare’s orange eyes lingered on the scene for exactly one second longer than they should have.
Then she looked away.
She fixed her gaze on the cave wall, jaw set until her cheek ticked.
Her arms were folded across her chest, her spine perfectly straight, her posture the picture of composed indifference.
She looked like someone who felt nothing at all.
’I don’t need him.’
The thought repeated itself, a mantra she clung to.
But even as she thought it, a small voice in the back of her mind whispered back.
’Then why does it hurt?’
