Chapter 208: Alena’s Changes [1]
Damon and Alena walked through the wilderness together.
The grass swayed around their ankles. The sky above the realm was pale gold, like a permanent sunset. Birds called from distant trees.
Alena kept glancing at Damon.
She was trying to figure him out.
He moved with an easy confidence that didn’t match his age. He spoke like someone who had seen more than eighteen years. And he had harvested Azure Vein Blossoms like a master alchemist with decades of experience.
"You’re strange," she said.
Damon smiled.
"You’ve mentioned that."
They walked in comfortable silence for a while.
Damon glanced sideways at her as they walked, letting his gaze trace the quiet intelligence in her profile — the furrowed concentration between her brows, the way her sharp green eyes catalogued every herb they passed without even consciously meaning to.
His golden eyes drifted inward, pulling up the familiar luminous interface of the System that only he could see.
Numbers and descriptions cascaded in orderly rows across his vision.
Millions of lust points, accumulated and waiting, glowed at the top corner like a silent promise of future power.
He let his gaze settle on Alena for a moment longer.
Earth Spirit Realm, Eighth Level. Peak Earth Grade spiritual roots — genuinely exceptional by any standard, the kind of foundation most disciples would spend entire lifetimes trying to reach.
And yet, for someone with her obsessive dedication, her relentless precision, her fierce and quietly terrifying mastery of her craft, that ceiling was far too low. Her bloodline still sat at Mortal Grade.
Her physique, the same.
Both were shackles on an otherwise remarkable cultivator, limiting how far she could realistically climb no matter how hard she pushed.
He scrolled through the Lust Store, skimming past rows of techniques, elixirs, and beast-binding contracts until a particular listing caught his eye and brought him to a smooth stop.
There it was. Exactly what she needed.
[Heaven Spiritual Root Advancement Pill - Flawless Purity]
[Price: 500,000 Lust Points]
He purchased it.
A small jade bottle materialised silently within his storage ring, its smooth surface catching the light with a faint, pale luminescence. He reached in, closed his fingers around it, and drew it out in a single unhurried motion.
He held it toward her.
"Here."
Alena stopped walking. Her forest-green eyes dropped to the bottle suspended between his fingers, then rose again to his face, reading him with the same careful, unhurried scrutiny she reserved for unfamiliar reagents.
There was nothing immediately remarkable about the container itself — clean jade, simple stopper, the sort of vessel any competent alchemist might carry — yet something about the quiet certainty in his posture made her hesitate.
She looked at the bottle again. Then back at Damon.
"What is it?"
He didn’t answer immediately, letting the silence sit between them for precisely long enough to sharpen her curiosity.
"Open it."
She took the bottle carefully. Her fingers were precise, the touch of someone who handled delicate herbs every day.
She uncorked it with the same careful, practiced motion she used when opening a vial of rare reagents and immediately, something extraordinary happened.
A soft, radiant golden light bloomed upward from inside the bottle’s narrow neck, spilling outward like a miniature sunrise cradled in her palm.
It was warm and clean and utterly unlike anything produced by ordinary spiritual energy, carrying with it the faintest fragrance of something ancient and pure that drifted into the air between them like morning mist dissolving over still water.
Alena’s breath caught sharply in her throat.
She tilted the bottle with exquisite care, her fingers steady out of sheer professional instinct even as everything else about her had gone very, very still.
A single pill rolled free of the glass interior and settled into the centre of her open palm, trailing a thin ribbon of golden light behind it as though reluctant to fully separate from its container.
It was perfectly round. Completely smooth.
Not a single ridge, divot, or surface irregularity to speak of — the kind of geometric perfection that should have been mathematically impossible to achieve through any conventional refining process she knew of.
A faint golden glow radiated from its surface, and the spiritual energy it released was so pure it made the air around them feel cleaner.
Alena’s eyes widened.
Her hands started trembling.
"This is..." she whispered. "This is a Heaven Spiritual Root Advancement Pill."
Damon nodded.
"But the purity," Alena said, her voice rising.
"I’ve never seen a pill with this level of purity. Not once. Not in any text. Not in any demonstration from the Alchemist Pavilion elders."
She brought it closer to her face.
Her sharp green eyes studied every angle.
"There are no impurities," she said.
"No cracks. No uneven distribution of spiritual energy. This is... this is flawless."
She looked up at Damon, her sharp forest-green eyes searching his face as though the answer might be written somewhere in his calm, golden gaze.
Her expression was a shifting storm of emotions — shock at first, raw and unguarded, then the deeper tremor of genuine disbelief, and beneath both of those, something else entirely that she couldn’t quite name or suppress.
"How did you get this?" she breathed. "A pill of this grade, this purity — the Alchemist Pavilion Elders themselves couldn’t produce something like this. Where does it even come from?"
"I have my ways."
It wasn’t an answer. It wasn’t meant to be. But the quiet certainty in his voice made further questioning feel somehow beside the point.
Alena stared at him for a long, suspended moment, the golden glow of the pill still radiating softly against her palm, warming her fingers.
Her analytical mind was clearly trying to reassemble itself, to regain its usual composure and order, to approach this the way she approached everything — with precision, with logic, with careful deliberation.
It failed entirely.
Then she jumped.
She threw her arms around his neck in a single motion and pressed her lips firmly against his, the jade bottle clutched tight in one hand, the flawless golden pill still resting in the other.
Damon’s eyes went wide.
