Incubus Lord: Lust Harem System

Chapter 185: Suspicious Door

Damon sat against the wall, catching his breath as Mio lay on the stone floor beside him.

Her chest rose and fell in slow rhythm, her purple hair spread across the cold surface.

A thin layer of sweat covered her skin, and her lips curled into a lazy smile.

"That was... exactly what I needed," she murmured.

Damon chuckled. "We should keep moving."

Mio groaned but pushed herself up.

She stretched her arms above her head, her robes falling loosely around her frame.

"Fine. But I’m claiming another round later."

Damon stood and offered her his hand. "Deal."

They dressed in silence, the weight of the temple pressing around them.

The air in the corridor felt heavier now, charged with something ancient.

Damon stepped out of the room first.

The hallway stretched ahead, lined with faded murals depicting dragons coiled around mountains and cultivators kneeling before towering figures.

Dust covered the floor, disturbed only by their footprints.

Mio followed close behind, her bow in hand.

They walked for several minutes, passing empty chambers and collapsed passageways.

The temple felt endless, each corridor leading to another, like a maze designed to trap intruders.

Then Damon stopped.

A faint hum resonated through the corridor ahead, low and steady, vibrating against the stone walls like a plucked string held indefinitely.

It was barely perceptible at first, more a pressure against the eardrums than a true sound, but it grew with each step, threading through the stale air with quiet insistence.

Damon raised his hand without breaking stride, a single sharp gesture that commanded Mio to halt.

She obeyed immediately.

Her fingers curled tighter around the grip of her bow, drawing it slightly upward, ready.

The cheerful ease she carried after their brief rest had vanished, replaced by the focused tension of a trained fighter.

Her purple eyes swept the corridor ahead, searching the shadows between the faded murals.

"What is it?" she asked, her voice dropped to barely a whisper.

Damon didn’t answer.

He stepped forward carefully, his golden eyes scanning the corridor.

At the end of the hall, a door stood embedded in the wall.

Unlike the others they had passed, this one was sealed by a shimmering barrier of light.

Symbols floated across its surface, rotating slowly in a complex pattern.

An array.

Mio moved past him and studied the barrier. Her purple eyes narrowed as she traced the symbols with her gaze.

"A defensive formation," Mio muttered, her brow creasing as her purple eyes tracked the slowly rotating symbols across the barrier’s luminous surface.

"And not a simple one, either. High grade."

Damon studied her expression from beside her.

"Can you break it?"

Mio’s frown deepened, her lips pressing together as she considered the question.

She extended her hand, palm open, and channeled her spiritual energy toward the array.

The symbols pulsed once.

Then they rejected her energy, sending a shockwave that pushed her back a step.

She tried again, this time with more force.

The array absorbed her attack and amplified it, reflecting the energy back at her.

Mio stumbled, her face flushing with frustration.

"It’s too complex," she admitted.

"The formation is layered. Every time I try to crack one layer, another one reinforces it. I’d need days to unravel this."

Damon studied the barrier in silence, his golden eyes methodically tracing each symbol as they drifted through their slow, unhurried rotation, utterly indifferent to the two cultivators standing before them.

"Step back," he said quietly.

Mio raised an eyebrow, her purple gaze flickering between him and the formation with visible skepticism.

Whatever she saw in his expression, however, was enough to suppress the question forming on her lips. She obeyed, retreating a few measured paces without a word.

Damon rolled his shoulders and walked steadily toward the array. The moment his foot crossed an invisible threshold, something shifted.

The symbols stuttered mid-rotation and froze completely, hanging suspended in the air like words caught in a held breath.

The ambient hum that had underscored every failed attempt intensified sharply, resonating deep in his chest — then, just as abruptly, faded into absolute silence.

The barrier flickered once, twice, and then dissolved like mist in the morning sun.

The door swung open without a sound.

Damon stopped mid-step, his hand still raised.

He looked at the open doorway, then back at the empty space where the array had been.

"What just happened?"

Mio asked, her voice threaded with genuine confusion, her wide purple eyes darting between Damon and the empty space where the shimmering formation had stood only seconds before.

Damon didn’t answer her immediately.

He stood perfectly still, golden gaze fixed on the now-vacant doorway, processing what he had just witnessed.

The barrier had dissolved the moment he’d drawn near, as though it had simply recognised him and stepped aside like a loyal servant.

No force, no technique, no effort whatsoever on his part.

’System, what was that?’

A familiar hum resonated through his mind as the system’s voice echoed in response.

[The Azure Dragon Bloodline stored in your inventory resonated with the array. The formation was keyed to recognize the bloodline of the Azure Dragon. Your proximity triggered an automatic unlock.]

Damon’s eyes widened slightly.

’So the inheritance didn’t just give me power. It opened doors too.’

[Correct. The Azure Dragon Realm was designed to respond to those who carry the bloodline. The array recognized the signature and deactivated itself.]

Damon nodded slowly.

He turned to Mio, who was still staring at the open doorway with a mix of awe and confusion.

"The array recognized something I carry," he said simply, his golden eyes still fixed on the empty space where the ancient formation had pulsed just moments before.

Mio blinked, her deep purple ponytail swaying as she tilted her head.

"Something you carry? What does that even mean?"

"The Azure Dragon Bloodline," Damon said, letting the words hang in the air between them.

The reaction was immediate.

Mio’s wide eyes shot to his face, searching his expression for any trace of a jest.

There was none. "You have the Azure Dragon Bloodline?" she breathed, disbelief creeping into every syllable.

"How is that even possible? Where did you get something like that?"

"I’ll explain it all later," he said, his tone measured and final, the kind of tone that brooked no further questions.

Before she could press him, Damon turned and stepped through the open doorway.
