Chapter 156: Start of the Festival: The World's Attention

A single loud, deep and rich ringing tone from a corporeal bell resounds all across the world for everyone to hear, showing this impromptu magic's caster's supreme mastery over mana, and the insights that allows him to cover the world with a spell, no matter how trivial it is.

Different places, different conversations being held, different thoughts towards the sudden invitation that caught some in the middle of a work day, and woke up some in the middle of the night.

----------

Over a towering mountain that reaches the skies somewhere, a bald elder wearing a robe looked over the horizon, his gaze toward the direction of the academy, smiling, his eyes forming a crescent as a smile descends down his wrinkled lips before he spoke.

"It's your last year there, disciple, make sure to enjoy it before you inherit the mantle of our sect."

His voice is carried by the wind for no one else but himself to hear, but deep in his heart, he knows it, that same will on his word is being carried by a young man bearing the name of their fading temple, standing proud amidst geniuses who will become the future pillars of the world.

----------

In an island somewhere in the middle of the vast ocean, Vereas' magic resounded as well, startling the insentient creatures from their nature while pulling the attention of the intelligent ones, a mature, alluring beauty from great family living right in the middle of this island opening her eyes as she turned her eyes towards the origin of the magic.

"It's that time of the year again, huh…"

She stood up from her throne, dress changing as she walks, the mix of sky blue and white cloth burning into black and gold with mix of crimson, a smile on her face as each of her steps resounds across the entire island.

'Time to pay a visit to those juniors again…'

----------

"Darling, hurry up! We don't want to miss Sera's competition!!"

"I know, I know, let me just get my equipment and then we're set for the academy!"

While some people show exceptional prowess and pedigree, some normal individuals also feel excited taking a good look at the event, wanting to see their children and how they are doing now that they are studying in the most prestigious academy in the world.

----------

Exceptional ones, normal ones, of course, other than that, there are also outliers whose measure of strength and prestige goes beyond the scale of what even other noble families can hope to rival.

In a peninsula nation within the far east, a great clan renown for their unique insight on magic resides, the academy's announcement also resounding in this clan's great hall as its descendants, or more rightful to say, disciples, continues with their practice.

Practice not of normal magic or anything related, but rather of the body and the sword.

"Alright, brats, you can go and rest for a while!" a tall, hulking man said as he dismissed the class of young ones learning to wield the sword.

He would've been mistaken for a middle-aged man had it not been for his already wrinkled face, paired with the white, but still lush hair that falls down his middle back, slightly ruffled, further reinforcing the unruly air around him.

"It's my granddaughter's last year there, I should go and watch what she's going to do this year… also, maybe I can visit that old coot Vereas and reminisce about the good times…"

The old man talked to himself as an excited smile appears on his face, the sword in his hand trembling as if it is feeling, no, sharing his excitement as well.

----------

An empire stands proud and powerful amidst the kingdoms surrounding it, not yielding a single bit of authority to the powers leeching onto their borders.

Leading this empire is an individual of immense composure and will, an emperor sitting upright, proud and powerful, in his rightful throne, overseeing everything happening in the land he reigns.

As the bell reaches his ears, his eyes softened for a bit as a youthful, feminine figure appears in his mind, his beloved daughter and the last gift that his wife left for him to take care of, experiencing her first Grand Talent Festival at the very academy him and his late wife graduated from.

"Your majesty…"

Some of the advisors watching his move immediately opened their mouth as they saw his response to the invitation, promoting him to reign his emotions in as he waves his hand, dismissing the worry of his subjects.

"I know, I cannot leave this place, at least, not yet…"

He paused for a while before he takes a look at one of his advisers, inquiring about a family that he hadn't visited for a while.

"A-about that… it seems that the Argenta Family doesn't want any visitor in their estate right now, your majesty."

"Even me, Alpharion's sworn brother?"

"Even the Family Head's sworn brother, you yourself, your majesty, yes…"

The advisor couldn't help but feel tensed as he delivers what he thinks is terrible news, his knees shaking in fear of bearing the brunt of their sovereign's wrath, only for him to heave a defeated sigh as he waves his hand.

"Forget it, his family's existence in our empire is already enough of a gift as a deterrence to outside force, if they are dealing with their own matter, let them be and make sure no one outside will disturb them…"

"Yes, your majesty!!"

It is clear who holds all the authority in this land, the sovereign alone, and that very sovereign himself seems to show immense respect to this one family alone.

----------

Within the same empire governed, ruled over by that crimson-pupiled emperor, a family lives isolated in a plateau somewhere, the lush greenery around making it hard for anyone not familiar with the area to navigate its greatness, leading to daring newbie explorers wanting to witness this family's grandeur to get lost year by year.

In fact, the place where this family resides isn't all too grand of a place, save for the seemingly mandatory walls surrounding most palaces and castle, the interior is quite minimalist in style.

Despite the huge structures, nothing there is just for style as each hall, each passage and each building serves their own function, showing the love of the residents of this place for finding a purpose for everything they laid their eyes on.

And in one of those buildings, a couple sits, holding each other's hand as the lady laid her head on the man's shoulder, her eyes closed and her lips arcing in a satisfied smile as she feels his warmth.

"It's that time of the year huh… pity that thing is acting up, if not, we could've met our Novus…"

The lady complained a bit, making the man smile as faint laughter escaped from his lips before he assured.

"It's already calming down… we're just here right now for formality's sake, as soon as the elder council deemed that dormant again, we're going to rush to watch my boy's performance."

"Just your boy?"

"I apologize, my dearest lady, I mean our boy."

The couple laughed for a while before they were interrupted as a person wearing the uniform of their family's aides presented himself in a deeply respectful, near awed manner, bowing politely to the two of them as he greeted.

"I greet the Argenta's Patriarch, and his Moon."

"Drop the formal greetings, Karion, you know I'm not used to getting called like that."

"I insist, patriarch, I will only call you informally in fitting settings, and given it is an order delivered by you as the patriarch, then I see no reason to address you informally."

"Cheh, fastidious."

As his wife gracefully laughed at the interaction between her husband and the older man, the patriarch of this family clicked his tongue, feeling annoyed at how insistent this old man is in keeping the rules.

Of course, it is also the reason as to why he trusts him highly, to the point that he can leave this current task to this old aide.

"That thing is still acting up a bit, so our departure to the academy will be a bit delayed, but we don't want our child to feel alone during that period of time so I will leave it to you to represent the family for a day at most., would it be fine?"

The patriarch asked with a gentle, polite tone, showing his respect to the elder, yet even then, said elder, despite all his strength, still couldn't help but feel immense pressure as he stands waiting for the order of this man he once attended to as a personal aide.

"Your will shall be carried, Patriarch, I will make sure of the young master's safety and enjoyment."

He said with faith and loyalty in his voice, causing the patriarch to smile as he replied.

"Good, don't overwork yourself, old coot, watching over the boy is more than enough, we need to let him grow on his own, after all."
