I Own the Evolution Domain

Chapter 128: Target (2)

"Not yet... hahaha... not yet..."

His heart, pierced, and not only that, but everything below his torn apart spine is completely immobile.

To be honest, it would’ve been easier for Novus to just surrender and accept death right there as after all, it won’t take long for him to return back inside the Evolution Domain to farm resources once again.

However, such acceptance of defeat is far removed from the way he does things, especially when he is well aware that he is still capable of doing so much more with the resources remaining in him.

Seeing the Immortal Energy rapidly falling down, barely supporting his body from completely falling due to the severe injuries he had sustained, Novus knew full well that he had to do something, this urgency prompting him to move towards the extreme as he raises his arms.

Arms that are fortunately, still mobile despite the nature of his spinal injury.

There was hardly any time, hence the reason why he was jolted widely awake as he hastily pulled the large arrow separating his spine, causing torrential wave of pain to clash towards his mental defenses, the stimulation causing his vision to blur as his entire face reddens as he endures through the hellish suffering it brought.

"Fucking... it hurts too damn much..." he mused to himself as he finally pulled it away from his body, his senses, along with his instinct warning him that he hardly has any time at all, prompting his body to move in an attempt to dodge the incoming arrows targeting his being.

For what it is worth, he had fortunately healed the severe injury previously preventing him from moving, granting him enough time to prevent himself from sustaining damages even more.

Of course, such rapid healing of his severely damaged spine, regeneration that doesn’t take even a moment, comes with a severe cost as well.

As he avoids arrows after arrow, still having a massive one lodged in his chest, piercing his heart, Novus was reminded that his time in the Evolution Domain is running out, his instincts urging him to wreak as much havoc as he can, as it is the only way that he can make the death penalty worth the while.

Soon, the volley of arrow stops, allowing him enough breather to take the arrow lodged within his heart, the combination of him focusing the entirety of his talent’s natural regeneration rate towards his heart, paired with the amplification of Immortal Energy, allows him to recover to full health with reduced expenses.

Still, despite returning to tiptop shape, that doesn’t change the fact that he is already running low on Immortal Energy, not to mention the fact that now, both the Ebony Direwolves and the Goblin groups are now completely wary of his existence.

Meaning that it would be far harder for him to hide, or even escape through stealth now.

Now, with his figure revealed to be capable of surviving even such brutal attacks, not only the Direwolves, but even the Goblins couldn’t help but acknowledge that they need to put this lone opponent to a higher scale of evaluation, their instincts now warning them of the danger of the existence standing against them.

Hostility thickens as from being a two-way fight between the Goblins and the Ebony Direwolves, the battle transformed into a three-way one with the introduction of the new threat, the only one without companion among the battling groups.

The clash continues, the goblin using those large arrows that Novus got shot with, as well as an Ebony Direwolf towering even among its already massive peers, faces off each other, blood-curdling screams as well as shiver-inducing howls resounded through each clash between them.

And with the leaders fighting, the subordinates refuse to fall behind, trying their best to incapacitate, even kill their opponents as a great rumble began, skin, flesh, bones and blood scattering all across the forest floor with each swing of club, each arrow hit, and each clawing slash, injures figure after figure.

And amidst all these, Novus continues to pick off fights wherever he can, this time however, each of his individual hunts no longer being as easy as it was before.

More often than not, his initial attack will be blocked, immediately being followed by a counter aiming at his life.

Of course, wielding Sensory Expansion even amidst all the pressure forcing his mind to focus more, he becomes more than capable of responding to his opponents’ counter, allowing him to dictate the flow of exchange.

If it is an Ebony Direwolf, he leads them to slipping their front claws past his body, allowing him to close in on their abdomen where he deals the killing blow, a mana reinforced punch that shatters their rib cage and punctures their lungs and heart with their bones.

This forces the beasts to bleed internally to the point they cannot recover from, eventually taking their lives.

Meanwhile, if his target is a Goblin, he allows them to hit his body, as this is the only way for him to catch them off guard, the moment their club comes into contact with him is also the moment that he hold said club ever-so-tightly close to him, before using his free arm to cleave and dismantle the monster part by part.

Time during a battle passes as chaotically as the battle itself, sometimes, one moment stretching for as long as an eternity, while sometimes, a trance that feels only a second becomes a long battle that actually took several hours in reality.

And with the passing of time, the battlefield and its landscape changes as well.

Limbs. Whether arms, legs, or any other appendages it is, were scattered across the ground bathed in blood, dead bodies strewn around in the wake of a monster that both the Goblins and the Ebony Direwolves failed to pay enough attention to, the very same monster standing his ground right now.

"Hah... hah... hah... damn... how amusing..."

Novus took a gulp of his saliva as he felt extremely parched from the prolonged fight, a controlled, yet ever-so-violent light can be seen underneath his calmed gaze, the faint, maniacal smile never leaving his face as he stands face-to-face against several creatures standing way bigger than himself.

From the great amount of both Goblins and Direwolves before the large fight broke out, what remains are only some couple of members for each group, both of them now seemingly falling under a truce as each and every single one of them lock their gazes at him.

Taking a deep breath, he straightens his back as he felt extremely satisfied with himself, the development of his stealth using shadow elemental mana progressing quite well due to the constant pressure of the battlefield, and his mastery over the blade accumulating even more with the prolonged fights.

Still, this is the Evolution Domain, and he knew that in this place, all the greats, all the highs, must come to an end, and with both groups previously fighting now seemingly cooperating to take him down, it does appear to be the time his high on battle come to a fitting end.
