Chapter 124: Ebony Direwolf
A large body travels in a blur as it flew across the air, only stopping its motion as it hit an obstruction in the near distance, its back crashing towards the hardness of the tree as it falls, effectively rendering it immobile.
Blood begins to spread beneath the Direwolf’s body as it falls down the ground, the damage it sustained effectively demonstrating to its packmates the kind of strength their target possesses, the kind of strength that no normal creature can ever hope to possess.
Still, without hesitation, the remaining two Direwolves continues on their path to attack their target, their unwavering commitment to pin him down and tear him apart causing the young man to pick up the bloodlust they are exuding.
And this bloodlust, capable of scaring anyone who is caught unprepared for such mental torment, only made their opponent smile even further.
After all, Novus felt like they are easier to detect now that they are showing their intent to kill him, the once near imperceptible presence brought about by them melding their own presence into their surroundings now being peeled apart layer by layer as they began losing their cool and calm.
"Too slow..." he mutters to himself as he proceeds to dodge another attack coming for his neck, immediately trying to search for ways to counter but being blocked as the other Direwolf proceeds to shoot their shot against him.
He reached his left arm as the path of attack tries to connect towards him, reinforcing his entire limb with mana as he goes on to directly catch the claws trying to tear his sides apart once more, his body’s natural strength, partnered with the enhancement of mana, barely allowing him to stop the claw before it inches its way to his side.
He then proceeds to exhale as he exerts more strength, then, pained howl spreads across the surroundings once more.
Bones cracked and flesh were torn from the sharp smithereens formed from what was once the Direwolf’s bones, prompting it to pull back in a limping state as it stands on only three legs, the broken limb swaying like soft pillow that doesn’t seem to contain a single article of bone within.
’Now...’ taking his chance, Novus proceeds to push the Direwolf he just dodged towards its debilitated companion all while mana began circulating around his legs, a single step bringing him to the first Direwolf he landed a hit on, intending to fell it down.
In one swift motion, he bridged the gap between himself and the Direwolf still lying unconscious underneath the tree it hit itself with, mana forming a blade around his arm as he lifts it up, creating a fleeting azure crescent that disappears as soon as it manifested itself.
It doesn’t disappear all on its lonesome however, as along with it, gone was the life of the Direwolf who previously stabbed Novus through his torso.
Head separated from the body, a flower of crimson liquid blooms as said head falls down the ground with a plop, blood pooling underneath the beast’s carcass as it falls.
The dead body of their comrade, the blood creating a puddle underneath the carcass, reaching all the way towards the perpetrator’s foot, and said perpetrator, just standing there, looking at them.
That’s when all of the Direwolves here, both the two remaining, as well as their companions who are still lurking on the dark behind the trees, knew.
This target, there isn’t anything that makes him a prey at all.
And in fact, staring back at his eyes, they all can see the similar madness that seeps through their being, but compared to their madness for blood and slaughter, there seems to be something fundamentally removed that made him different from them.
There is no bloodlust, nor any sort of malicious intent in this madness.
Only hunger, thirst, for battle, for improvement and growth.
That is exactly what is it that made him appear all the more mysterious, borderline terrifying to this pack, as after all, only those who are hungry enough for blood and slaughter that can improve, especially in such a brutal place like the Evolution Domain.
Of course, that is only for the Direwolves’ perspective.
As for the young man who just felled one of their own.
’They don’t seem to be too strong individually, but together... amazing creatures...’
As he looks at the information shown to him, information regarding the new opponent he just felled, Novus couldn’t help but realize that while it is true that he had already gone so far from where he was before he received the system, there’s still way more to go for him to be able to truly call himself strong.

’D Tier...’ as he realized that he just fought against a D Tier beast, and not any normal D Tier but rather a D Tier beast in the Evolution Domain, Novus couldn’t help but feel a bit satisfied with his progress reaching this far.
This satisfaction however, doesn’t let him leave his guard down for long as he decided to shove the Ebony Direwolf’s information for now, planning to deal with the remaining two Direwolves before their companions interfere.
Mana dances in the air once more as he took a step to bridge the gap between himself and the two remaining opponents, his arms already wrapped around in corporeal blade of mana.
The azure glow reflected on the direwolves’ bloodshot eyes, the thought of perishing now crossing their mind as they felt the threat being exuded by the target the set their eyes on.
Amidst the paralyzing threat however, their gazes sharpened as their mind sets themselves on what to do now, their jaws opening wide as they proceed to bite down on their target, intending to take him down with them should push comes to shove.
[Defeated: Ebony Direwolf. Rewards: D Tier Evolution Crystal (6), Wolf Fang (4), Dark Claw (1)]
Blood flows once again as a familiar tone, a familiar notification pops up in his head as his blade cleaves one of the remaining Direwolves.
As the sharp edge of the mana blade begins closing in on the last one however, he felt it as his senses warns and his instincts screams.
’Defend!!’
Something cunning, something dangerous, multiple signs of life he is picking up with Sensory Expansion now closing in on his location, fast.
