Achieving Demon Godhood from Unlocking Talents

Chapter 326 316: Why Court Death?

There weren't many taxis here, and Chen Xiao and the others were busy surveilling Rebel or warlord forces on a mission, so they couldn't come pick him up.

He planned to take the streetcar back to the central district and the Superpower Bureau's apartment.

Hm?

Then, the very next second, a subtle sensation welled up inside him.

Lu Chao snapped his head up, looking toward the other side of the intersection. His gaze fell upon a distant city block several hundred meters away, where low-rise apartment buildings stood clustered together.

BOOM!!

The roar of an explosion!

A massive fireball erupted from the sixth and seventh floors of an apartment building, as if a high-yield bomb had suddenly been detonated.

Billowing black smoke poured from the shattered windows, melting into the darkening night sky.

The apartment's walls could be seen faintly trembling and shaking, sending debris and potted plants crashing down onto the street below.

And yet, a Biotechnology Company hovercar was parked on the street below, its powerful searchlights trained mercilessly on the building.

Biotechnology Company security officers in black tactical gear poured out, guns drawn, and surrounded the building. A dozen or so drones carrying explosives rushed inside, triggering another series of dazzling, fiery explosions.

BANG! BANG! BANG!!

"Ah!"

"Run!"

"Those madmen from the Biotechnology Company!"

The crowds on the nearby streets instantly fell into chaos. Even from several hundred meters away, people were panicking, terrified of getting caught in the crossfire.

Passersby either dropped to the ground and covered their heads, their faces pale, or ran about wildly, screaming in anger and terror.

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! Car alarms blared from the vehicles parked below, followed by the sound of a gunfight erupting in the distance.

Seeing this, Lu Chao stopped in his tracks and narrowed his eyes.

He didn't want to get involved.

But, just then, his eyes caught a hazy, almost invisible figure walking out of the apartment at the epicenter of the blast.

It walked right along the trembling street, brushing past one Biotechnology Company security officer after another, yet no one noticed.

Not even the apparent leader, a frowning Superpower Armor User acting as a security consultant, detected its presence.

The scene defied all logic and reason.

But the invisible figure, which seemed to move by refracting light, was covering several meters with each step. It was as if it was shrinking the very ground beneath its feet, rapidly distancing itself from the bombed-out apartment.

As luck would have it,

The figure was getting closer, heading straight for the street where the café was.

The pedestrians all around them remained completely oblivious.

Only Lu Chao watched as it crossed two or three hundred meters in a matter of seconds.

As the distance closed, his five senses grew even keener.

The hazy, cloaking energy around the figure seemed to dissolve before his eyes, revealing a man in a wide, black woolen overcoat.

He wore a wide-brimmed black hat and carried a silver cane in his left hand.

As if sensing something, the man stopped. He stood on the sidewalk at the intersection and looked up.

The people on the street still didn't seem to see him.

Their eyes met. Only Lu Chao could see him, locking onto his eerie green eyes and Caucasian features.

'An Invisibility Technique?'

Lu Chao frowned, recognizing it as a form of Magic he had read about in a book of Magic.

Only a Mage could use it, and it was nearly impossible to see through unless one possessed immense Spiritual Power or exceptionally keen senses.

So.

'Is he that Mage?'

A powerful intuition struck him, and without a moment's hesitation, Lu Chao turned to leave.

The last thing he wanted was to get on the Biotechnology Company's radar again; he was counting on them leaving him alone for a while longer.

Lu Chao immediately picked up his briefcase and walked away with large strides.

But.

TAP, TAP, TAP!

The sound of leather shoes on pavement grew closer. The Mage, who Lu Chao suspected was the Green Demon, was frowning as if he had locked onto him.

Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the man shrinking the distance between them, relentlessly following him. Even when Lu Chao detoured into an alley or quickened his pace, the man didn't give up the chase.

Worse, the emotions Lu Chao could sense from him were shifting from probing curiosity to suspicion, and then to a faint malice tinged with a bloodthirsty aura.

Sensing this, Lu Chao's eyes flickered, and he let out a resigned sigh.

'Why.'

'Are some people just asking to die?'
