NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Chapter 295: On My Terms

Kane’s hand stayed on her arm.

His hips remained pressed to hers, the hard bulge a clear, unspoken pressure against her.

"You wanted the kill from the first night. You put your body on the table for it. You stood in my chamber after the Second Measure and named it as the price. Now I’m ready to pay it, and you’re talking about timing again."

"Because timing is the difference between a usable empire and a civil war that finishes us before the devils arrive."

Marisa didn’t try to push him back.

Her voice stayed controlled, but her breath had shortened under the physical closeness.

"I told you the visions show ruin if he remains. I also told you the packs respect strength. You have shown them strength. Use it in a way that keeps the banners in place after he falls. A private challenge. A formal answer to an insult he will not be able to ignore. A moment when the talks themselves create the opening. Not a murder in the dark with essence still wet on the floor."

Kane leaned in closer, mouth near her ear, the pressure of his cock against her clothed cunt steady and unmistakable.

"And if the opening takes too long? If he finishes whatever he is growing down there before your perfect moment arrives?"

"Then we accelerate the moment."

Marisa’s hands had come up, not quite pushing him away, resting against his chest.

"You sit through the next session. You let him believe the underground discovery changed nothing. You accept the family condition through Kessa in public if that locks the military support. And the first time he gives you a private audience, or the first time he overreaches in front of the factions, you end it. I will be ready to move on the succession the same hour. The packs will follow the one who is still standing and still holding the center. That is the path that leaves an army instead of ashes."

Kane held the position a moment longer, feeling the heat of her through the fabric, the controlled rise and fall of her breathing, the same calculated resolve that had guided every step since the road.

The decision to kill Grathak was no longer in question. Only the shape of the blade remained open.

He stepped back just enough to remove the hard pressure between her thighs, though his hand stayed on her arm.

"Next private opening he gives me," Kane said.

"No more delays after that. If he tries to push the experiments further or if the talks start looking like another layer of cover, I cut him down whether the banners are ready or not. Clear?"

Marisa’s eyes searched his face.

"Clear. And when it is done, the bargain still stands. The empire pointed outward. The breeding of a new race ended. And the rest of what you claimed on the road and in the dark."

Kane released her arm.

"Get ready to move the moment it happens. Tell no one else the timeline. Kessa and Griselda learn only when the body is already on the floor."

Marisa smoothed the front of her wrap where his body had pressed, restored the last of the political composure, and looked once toward the upper halls where the day’s final session would soon reconvene.

"Then go back to the table and look like a man who still believes the offers are enough. I will do the same. When the moment comes, do not hesitate. Hesitation is the only thing the visions never forgive."

She stepped past him and walked toward the light of the main courtyard without looking back.

Kane stood in the shadowed angle of the stairwell for a short time longer, the scent of her still close, the weight of Mjoldr solid across his back, and the knowledge of the black basins two levels below sitting like a cold coal in his chest.

Grathak would die.

That much was already settled.

He walked back into the upper hall with the same steady stride he had used every day of the talks.

The scent of the underground still sat faintly at the back of his throat, buried under the cleaner air of the palace and the residual smell of Marisa from the stairwell.

He gave no sign of either.

Mjoldr rested across his back.

His expression was the same controlled, faintly bored mask he had worn since the Third Measure ended.

Warriors and attendants parted for him with the new respect the Guardian’s withdrawal had purchased. He took his place at the open section of the long table without ceremony.

Grathak was already seated on the raised throne, massive frame at ease, red eyes tracking Kane the moment he entered.

The emperor’s gaze lingered a fraction longer than usual, testing, measuring, waiting for any crack that would show the underground discovery had landed.

Kane met the look once, gave a short nod as if nothing of consequence had occurred since the morning session, and sat.

The discussions resumed.

A pure-blood representative was in the middle of arguing the precise number of trained warriors that would be committed in the first thirty days after any formal agreement.

Grathak cut across the man with a lazy motion of one great hand.

"The numbers already stand. Trade routes open under protection. Fighting strength allocated according to the schedule we named. The only remaining lock is the family condition."

His red eyes returned to Kane.

"You have heard it every day, barbarian. Formal bond through the tiger-striped woman. Permanent instead of borrowed. You accept it here, in front of the banners, and the full weight moves. Or you continue to treat my empire as a temporary tool, and the deeper packs will treat you the same."

Kane’s voice was calm, almost mild.

"I accept the condition."

A low ripple moved through the hall.

Several pure-blood heads turned sharply.

Vorra’s representative allowed herself the smallest nod of satisfaction. Grathak’s scarred muzzle pulled into a slow, pleased grin that showed teeth.

"Cleanly said. No speeches. Good."

He leaned forward slightly.

"And the underground levels? You walked them once with my sister before the Measures. You have had free movement since. Anything you saw that troubles the agreement?"

The probe was deliberate, wrapped in a casual tone.

Kane felt the weight of the red stare and the quiet attention of every faction listening for hesitation.

He answered without a single visible shift in posture or expression.

"I saw an empire preparing for a fight most thrones still pretend is not coming. That matches what I came here to find. The terms on the table are sufficient."
