Chapter 181 Do Not Dare
CALIX
"You have just one minute.
If you don’t come out before then, you’ll regret it." I say to him once we reached the motel. I plan on waiting out here even though I really want to go inside with him and supervise him leaving her in her room because I don’t think it would be good to let him know that I live here—right by her room as he is already suspicious of me for stalking her which I cannot deny.
He had indeed seen me watching Gweneth this morning from outside the restaurant while my damn mind was still being indecisive on approaching her.
He should not have been able to tell at all that it was me because I had immediately walked away and mixed up with passersby as soon as he had noticed me.
"No need to act all concerned. We aren’t all creeps." He said.
"Then you can tell me what your business is with her afterwards. You better be right here when I get back, otherwise I’ll report you for suspicious behavior." He threatens, then goes inside.
I start timing.
This feels so deeply unsettling. The sight of him carrying her makes me feel like I’m being suffocated. Knowing that he is going to be alone, in a private space with her even if for just short time is not sitting well with me at all. I’m going to turn all these uncomfortable feelings into anger and use it in him if he dares try to. . . There he is on his way out.
Fifty-two seconds. Good.
He comes to stand before me, arms folded, wit a stern vibe emitting off him. "Now answer my question. Who are you? And where do you come from? Because she doesn’t have any family here."
I want to say that is none of his business, but I say, "I’m someone who wants to right a wrong.
She does not belong here. I want to take her with me back to where she does belong."
"You sound like you’re someone who did a great offense. And you must still be in highschool which is kinda bringing me to solidly presume that you must have been among those people.
Her bullies. Correct me If I’m wrong."
I’m surprised, "How close are you with her?" They must be to an extent for her to tell him.
"Bastard. You are not even denying it." He laughs mirthlessly. "So you were part of the those who abused her and made her like this?"
"Part? I was the main one. I led the bullying." I admitted.
He throws me a punch on the face and drags me by the shirt. "This is unbelievable! How dare you?" He growls, "Following her here to hurt her again? Not on my watch!"
"No. I had come here to beg for her forgiveness and make it right."
"That’s bullshit! You expect me to buy that?"
"No. It don’t matter honestly whether or not you believe it." I shake his hands off my jacket, dusting the invisible stains resulting from his hold. "Thank you. I very much deserved that." I start to walk away into opposite direction. I will hang around somewhere until he leaves there.
I was doing just that before he put himself in my way, blocking my path. "Forgiveness? You can’t be serious! She does not need that.
She is barely starting to come out from the black hole and you want to put her back there?
I swear, I will kill you and dump your body in a sewer if you dare show your fake-ass sorry self to her." He spits, delivering every word with a firm declaration. My mind is not on any of those words he just said. I am thinking of whether or not he likes her.
Of course he does. Gweneth is great. That beauty of hers that is soft and sultry at the same time. Those pouty incredibly soft lips that stretch to show her teeth when she smiles.
She had no idea how fucking alluring she looks when she does the most simplest of things.
I don’t know what fucking blinded me not to see it sooner when I had her right in front of me. I could have made her mine from that moment on.
Lucas and all the others had all been brought to their knees by her right from the beginning and I thought they were blind and crazy.
This guy must be another fucking competition. And I really do not have any right to be mad and feel jealous about it.
There is nothing that I can do except get to her soon and take her out of this place. If only it were as easy as it sounds.
"Leave. Return to wherever you came from and leave Gina alone. Do you understand?"
I sag against the cardboard wall, listening in on Gweneth’s snoring.
Maybe he is right.
She does look okay and happy here. I should not disrupt it for her like I did her school life. She had come here because she wanted to be away from me and forget everything that happened. Seeing me would painfully remind her of all what I made her lose.
Her scholarship, a chance to participate in a swimming competition, and her very life. That guy had told me about a swimming competition that she could not participate in because of me; saying that she had cried a river today because of it.
I had no idea about that until now. The misery and guilt is crashing on me with deafening finality. Forgiveness? I deserve death as well as every bit of the hits that guy had thrown at me.
I had asked him not to let her know that he had seen me. He did not verbally agree or affirm to that but I know that he wouldn’t since he is so worriedly concern about her. I sigh deeply, pulling the ring of the final can of beer open.
Six other empty cans are on the floor. This is the very last one, and I do not feel the slightest bit drunk. Damn it, I should have bought more. This is why I always prefer scotch and whiskey whenever I want to get drunk.
I take up my outstretched legs, raising my knees. My eyes closing to see if I can force myself to get some shut-eye. The familiar ringing of my phone on the floorboards jolts me out of the attempt. "Hello Uncle." I greeted after receiving.
"Where are you? Are you running away from your mandatory training?" My uncle asked. His tone and voice gruffer than usual which means he is not pleased.
The quarterly Hell training was supposed to start a week ago.
