Chapter 511 - 510: What Elian Heard
Chapter 511: Chapter 510: What Elian Heard
Location:Seven Peaks — Formation Hall, Spirit Garden, Command CenterDate/Time:TC1856.06.28 (Dawn to Evening)
Four days after the Confederacy visit, Elian stopped sleeping.
Not insomnia — something else. The eight-year-old would lie in his bed, eyes open, staring at the ceiling with the unfocused gaze that Aren had learned to recognise as the Pillar Soul doing something the rest of the world couldn’t perceive. Aren would watch from his bed across the room, frost spiraling involuntarily from his fingertips in patterns that mapped whatever his roommate was sensing.
On the third night, Elian sat up at two hundred hours and said: "There’s someone else."
Aren was already awake. The frost had woken him — his ice affinity responding to Elian’s substrate sensing with patterns that crawled across the bedframe and down the wall in geometric precision. Three nights of watching his roommate stare at the ceiling while his own hands drew maps of something neither of them could explain had worn the Northern boy’s patience to its edges.
"I’m getting Mei," Aren said.
"Wait—"
"I’ve waited three nights. You’re not sleeping. I’m not sleeping. My frost is drawing things I don’t understand. We’re getting help."
Aren fetched Mei.
Mei took one look at the frost patterns on the wall — concentric rings, directional indicators, the unconscious cartography of an ice affinity translating dimensional data — and fetched Raven.

Raven found Elian sitting cross-legged on his bed in the dark. The formation nightlight casting amber warmth that the boy wasn’t seeing — his attention was directed downward, through the floor, through the mountain’s roots, through the substrate layers that his Pillar Soul connection let him feel the way other people felt temperature.
"Someone else," he said when Raven sat beside him. "Not the hive. Not the pulse. Something different."
"What does it feel like?"
He struggled with the vocabulary — eight years old, trying to describe sensory input that had no human equivalent. "Like... when I feel the mountain, the mountain feels back. It knows I’m here. This is the same thing. Someone feeling the ground the way I feel it. Feeling it back."
"Where?"
"South. Far south. Past the settlements, past the farmland, past..." He frowned. The concentration visible in the tightening around his golden eyes. "Past everything I usually feel. At the edge. Where the ground gets quieter because nobody lives there."
"How far?"
"I don’t know distances the way maps know them. But far. Days of walking. Maybe more."
"Can you tell anything about the person? Age? Cultivation level?"
"It’s not a person to me. It’s a... weight. Like a stone dropped in water — I can feel the ripples. The weight is steady. Patient. It’s been there for a long time, but I only started feeling it three nights ago."
"Why three nights ago?"
