Chapter 86: Revenge
Fu Yuzhen couldn’t control the panic and unease in her heart. Tears streamed down her face. "Why is it taking so long? Xiao Ming will be alright, won’t he?"
"He’ll be fine, he’ll be fine," Su Qing quickly comforted her.
Pan Youming was still in the emergency room. Su Qing knew tonight’s transaction probably wouldn’t happen, but she had to let the other party know so they wouldn’t think she was standing them up.
So, Su Qing said to Fu Yuzhen and Pan Runqing, "Aunt Fu, Uncle Pan, I’m going to buy some food and bring it back."
"I’m not hungry." Fu Yuzhen shook her head. With her eldest son’s fate unknown in the emergency room, she was in no mood to eat.
"I’ll go," Pan Runqing said. He knew everyone needed to eat something. After all, his younger son was also injured and had been holding on outside the emergency room. He needed to eat something to regain his strength.
"Let me go. You two wait here for Brother Youming to come out," Su Qing said. "I’ll be back soon."
After saying that, Su Qing ran out of the hospital.
The sky had already darkened. Su Qing avoided people and quickly put on a disguise. She went to the entrance of the black market and asked the auntie there to pass on a message: tonight’s transaction was canceled, rescheduled for seven o’clock tomorrow evening. Only then did she go to the state-run restaurant. She bought some buns and congee, packed them in a lunch box, and brought them back to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Pan Youming still hadn’t come out of the emergency room. The Pan Family was frantic with worry but helpless, able only to continue their anxious wait.
At Su Qing’s urging, the Pan Family members forced themselves to eat a little. Staring at the red light above the emergency room door, Su Qing pursed her lips. ’There are no plants here,’ she thought, ’so I can’t even find a way to see what’s happening inside.’
The Pan Family and Su Qing were all waiting for the results of the surgery. Meanwhile, back at the black market, Zhang Erlai breathed a sigh of relief when he heard Su Qing’s message about changing the transaction time. He said to A Cheng, "Brother Cheng, I can’t believe Aunt Feng also had something come up today. I was just thinking about sending someone to the woods to tell her about the time change."
A Cheng nodded. "What a coincidence. How many of our men were injured in total?"
"Three were injured, and they’re all at the hospital now. There’s one more..." Zhang Erlai lowered his head, his eyes welling up with tears. "One more... was very badly hurt. He’s still in the ER."
"Bastards!" A Cheng slammed his fist on the table, grinding his teeth. "Those guys are completely lawless!"
Zhang Erlai couldn’t help his curiosity. "Brother Cheng, who are those people, anyway? Are they the same ones who kidnapped me last time? I heard from one of our injured brothers that they said we killed one of their people and they were here for revenge."
"Bullshit!" A Cheng snapped angrily. "What kind of nonsensical reason is that? They’re holed up in the mountains; we can’t even find them. How could we have killed anyone? They’re just making up excuses to attack us."
"Brother Cheng, who on earth are they?" Zhang Erlai was terrified. Last time they just kidnapped him and took him to the mountains, but this time they were slashing people right on the street!
He’d never experienced anything like this in his entire life. Just thinking about it now sent a chill down his spine.
"There are some things you’re better off not knowing. In any case, be careful for a while. I’ll handle this." A Cheng’s brow was furrowed tightly. "Have our men take good care of the injured brothers. By the way, I heard two passersby were dragged into this for no reason. Is that true?"
"Yes," Zhang Erlai said. "It was two brothers. One of them was seriously injured and is also in the emergency room. Our guys helped send them to the hospital and paid for their medical expenses."
"Good." A Cheng nodded. "The police will definitely investigate this. When they question you, just tell them what happened. We’re the victims here. Since they were so ruthless, we’ll cooperate with the police to root them all out."
"Okay," Zhang Erlai quickly nodded in agreement.
"Alright, you handle things here. I need to head back," A Cheng said to Zhang Erlai before leaving.
Watching A Cheng’s retreating figure, Zhang Erlai knew there had to be someone backing him. He just had never met this person behind A Cheng. He pressed his lips together. ’Looks like I need to work even harder.’
A Cheng went to a courtyard on East County Street, which was where An Zhihan lived. An Zhihan had bought several adjoining courtyards, and both A Cheng and Fang Lutian lived in the area. He went to An Zhihan’s courtyard and found Fang Lutian was there as well.
A Cheng told An Zhihan and Fang Lutian what had happened that day. He finished by saying, "Young Master, Uncle Tian, the attackers today kept insisting that we made the first move and killed their people. I think they’re just making up an excuse to come looking for trouble."
"It’s probably not an excuse," An Zhihan said faintly.
"Not an excuse?" Both A Cheng and Uncle Tian looked at An Zhihan. Even Fang Lutian had thought it was just an excuse for the other side to deliberately stir up trouble.
An Zhihan gave a faint smile and said, "My First and Second Uncles want what the Old Master has hidden. They’re convinced it’s in my hands and even believe I came here just to guard it. But they don’t dare to act rashly; they only make small moves behind my back. After all, the Old Master and Old Madam had a lawyer notarize the will. If anything were to happen to me, their inheritance rights would be automatically revoked. Besides, even though the Old Master is in a coma, the Old Madam is still around. If they push me too far and I go crying to the Old Madam, they’ll have hell to pay."
"But didn’t the Old Madam say that stuff was long gone?" Fang Lutian said angrily.
"They don’t believe it," An Zhihan said. "They’re convinced my being here means I’m after something else."
"First Uncle and Second Uncle are really..." A Cheng gritted his teeth. "Young Master, no matter what, you’re their nephew. How can they treat you like this?"
"A nephew, not a son. It’s perfectly normal. Even fathers and sons can turn against each other. Besides, I’m the nephew they wish they could get rid of," An Zhihan said faintly.
"First Uncle and Second Uncle are truly vicious," A Cheng said angrily.
An Zhihan said calmly, "It’s normal. Every man for himself, and the devil take the hindmost. Especially when so much money is involved. I should be glad that even though their intentions are crooked, they are utterly devoted sons. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have had these last two years to breathe."
"So, you’re saying what happened today was probably someone on their side acting without authorization?" A Cheng asked.
"More or less."
On Baihua Mountain, Brother Ming smashed a cup on the ground. "Who told you to act on your own?! Do you have any idea how serious the consequences of this are?"
