Interstellar to 80s: A Scientist's Farming Mission

Chapter 609 - 624: Dooring

An Ning loaded the two computers into the trunk. The store owner who had followed her out took the handcart back from her.

Even now, the owner was still trying to figure out how he’d just sold two computers. It had all happened so fast; he felt like he hadn’t said a single word.

"I’m off, boss."

"Oh—goodbye."

An Ning nodded to the owner, started the car, and drove away.

An Ning drove the car back to the courtyard house. After packing her luggage, she headed to An Guoming’s place first.

Their homes were close, so An Ning just rode her small electric scooter over.

The alley was bustling with street vendors, many people on electric scooters, and a few parked cars.

An Ning wasn’t going fast, just cruising along slowly. Only when the alley widened a bit did she twist the throttle a little more to speed up.

It all happened in an instant. A black sedan right in front of An Ning suddenly swung its door open.

In the already narrow alley, the car took up two-thirds of the space. The moment the door opened, it completely blocked the entire path.

The terrifying part was that An Ning, riding right behind it, was already past the car’s rear door.

"Hey—!"

CRASH!

While protecting herself, An Ning flipped right over the car door.

Her scooter, however, stopped dead in its tracks. Its incredible durability had left the sedan’s door hanging precariously, wobbling back and forth.

After a full 360-degree flip, An Ning landed smoothly right in front of the car. The surrounding crowd immediately burst into applause and shouts of praise.

"Amazing!"

"Such beautiful skill!"

"Badass!"

"Are you blind?! Look at my car door! You’re paying for this!"

A woman got out of the car. Her initial fear vanished in an instant, replaced by fury when she saw that An Ning was perfectly fine but her car door was a wreck.

In that moment, her thinking was dominated by the idea that the victim is always right—or more accurately, whoever seems worse off is right.

An Ning didn’t even bother to explain. She just pointed at a utility pole above them. "There’s a security camera. You can’t win this."

"What camera? I don’t care about any camera! You smashed my car up like this, and you’re not going to pay? Are you kidding me?"

The woman looked at her door with a pained expression, then glanced down at the electric scooter, which didn’t have a single scratch or dent. Frustrated, she gave it a kick.

"AHH—!"

But the scooter was made of a material that even the collision couldn’t damage. What could a single kick possibly do?

"Wow, for a second there I thought I’d met the heir to some legendary kung fu kick. Turns out it’s just a clown who doesn’t know her own limits."

An Ning’s sarcastic remark, delivered as if she were just a spectator, made the woman even more furious.

"You little bitch! You wreck someone’s car and then you insult them? You act like you weren’t raised right at all!"

"Let me tell you, this car is worth over a million yuan! You couldn’t afford it even if you sold every bone in your body!"

THUMP! An Ning leaped right onto the hood of the car.

"What are you doing?! Get down! Get down from there!"

An Ning ignored her completely. Not only did she not get down, but she also took a few steps, walking from the hood to the roof. Then she slowly squatted down, looking down at the woman.

"You can curse me, but you don’t bring my mother into it. You understand that rule?"

"I wasn’t going to report you, but now I’m in a bad mood. You’d better get ready to pay up."

Furious, the woman swung her hand to slap An Ning. An Ning casually blocked it, and the woman yelped as if she had just hit a steel bar, clutching her wrist and crying out in pain.

"I didn’t even fight back. Don’t try to pin this on me."

As she spoke, An Ning jumped off the car, took out her phone, and started taking pictures of the accident scene as evidence.

After documenting the scene, she called the police.

"There. Now we wait for the police."

"You... you... you—"

It wasn’t that the woman didn’t know she was at fault, but she refused to admit it. If she did, she would have to pay for the repairs herself.

The car was truly expensive, and it wasn’t even hers.

She had borrowed it from someone specifically to show off today.

Seeing the extensive damage to the car and that the other party was just a young girl, she had tried to intimidate her to gain the upper hand. But she never expected the girl to be so much tougher than her.

"What about ’you’? Seeing you so flustered... this car isn’t yours, is it?"

"What nonsense are you talking? It’s just a crappy little scooter. You can’t even afford four wheels. How much money could you possibly have?"

The woman feigned indifference, snorted coldly, and pulled a hundred-yuan bill from her wallet, preparing to toss it at An Ning.

"If that money touches the ground, I won’t be taking it."

That one sentence made the woman’s raised hand falter. She awkwardly lowered it and handed the bill to An Ning.

"You’re a tough one, kid. You’d better hope you don’t run into me again. I just happen to have somewhere to be today, otherwise..."

"Otherwise what? What would you do? Spit it out, don’t leave your sentences half-finished."

An Ning’s fearlessness made the woman blush with anger. But she must have really been in a hurry. After handing over the hundred yuan, she turned to leave.

"Hold on. Who said a hundred yuan was enough? My scooter is very expensive."

An Ning wasn’t lying, but the woman thought she was being extorted.

"You’re so greedy! A crappy scooter costs a few hundred yuan at most. There’s nothing wrong with your stupid bike, how much more do you want?!"

An Ning took a step back and pointed at her scooter. "You’re right about one thing—my scooter isn’t damaged at all. Doesn’t that mean it’s incredibly sturdy? This is a custom-built vehicle. How much do you think it’s worth? It’s lost a little bit of paint at the very least. A hundred yuan definitely isn’t enough. One thousand, minimum."

The moment she said "one thousand," the onlookers all thought An Ning was trying to scam the woman.

The woman glanced at her watch, then back at An Ning.

"You’re something else. I’ll remember you."

The woman actually took out another nine hundred yuan and reluctantly handed it to An Ning.

An Ning accepted the money without a shred of guilt. Her scooter’s paint job was no ordinary one.

An Ning righted her scooter and moved it to the side. The woman managed to force the wobbly door shut, then walked away in her high heels.

A short while later, a police officer arrived, and An Ning explained the situation.

"You settled it privately for a thousand?"

"Mhm. Is that too much?"

The officer wanted to say it was, but on second thought, it wasn’t unreasonable. The girl was still on her vehicle during the incident. If she had been thrown off and injured, a thousand yuan wouldn’t have been nearly enough.

An Ning thanked the officer, and he left.

She got back on her little electric scooter and continued on her way. It was just one turn before she arrived at An Guoming’s house.

KNOCK KNOCK. Someone quickly came to open the door.

The reddish-brown main door swung open. The person inside and An Ning outside were both taken aback.

An Ning took two steps back to check the house number. Yes, this was her second brother’s house.

The woman inside also recognized An Ning. She shrieked, exasperated, "Will you ever give it a rest?! Wasn’t extorting a thousand yuan from me enough? Now you’ve followed me to my home! What the hell do you want?!"

An Ning, in turn, asked with a hint of mockery, "Your home? This is *your* home? Are you sure?"

For a split second, the woman’s confidence wavered, but then she figured An Ning wouldn’t know any better.

"If it’s not my home, is it yours? Why don’t you take a good look at yourself? Riding that crappy little scooter, you think *you* can afford to live here?"
