Chapter 286 - 284: I Want to Exchange the Fragment
A Desire Demon.
This was a Desire Demon.
Su Qing had seen plenty of Desire Demons.
"A Desire Demon?" Su Qing chuckled.
A mocking expression appeared on his face as he lifted her chin with one hand. "Do you have any idea what the consequences are for stalking a Foundation Establishment Cultivator like me?"
Yi Nan shook her head, unwilling to give up her desire for the fragment. "My lord, I am willing to trade my virginity for it."
"I’m a Pure Desire Demon..."
"It really is my first time."
Su Qing suddenly laughed. He lowered her chin, walked over to a nearby window, and gazed at the scenery for a moment.
He finally spoke. "You’ve fallen into my hands. Tell me, if I wanted to do something, what could you possibly do to stop me?"
Su Qing’s words stunned the demon. It was her first time encountering such blatant authoritarianism since coming to the human world.
It was also the first time she had truly felt a truth that was universal, even back in the Demon Race: the strong never need to reason with anyone.
"So, tell me, what’s this fragment for?" Su Qing asked, taking out the fragment of Pure Demon Jade and toying with it in his hand.
In truth, Su Qing just wanted to use his Synthesizer on it to see what this Demon Jade would become.
"It’s useful to us from the Demon Race. It can purify some Demonic Qi." The Desire Demon before him wasn’t telling the whole truth.
But she wasn’t lying, either. Half-truths like this were the hardest to see through.
However, Su Qing had the Synthesizer’s appraisal function.
"You really want it, don’t you?" Su Qing chuckled.
"Yes, powerful one."
"But I’m not interested in you." Su Qing put the fragment away. There was no way he was giving this up.
’What use is a Desire Demon anyway?’
Su Qing couldn’t be bothered with her.
"I will follow you, if you give me this fragment."
"I am willing to offer you my Life."
Yi Nan refused to give up. This was her only chance to change her destiny.
Su Qing activated his God Demon-breaking Immortal Pupil.
He looked at her destiny.
Her destiny was average.
It was cyan, but tinged with a bit of gold.
When Su Qing considered giving her the fragment, the amount of gold in her destiny suddenly increased.
When he decided against it, the gold diminished just as quickly.
’Interesting!’
’Golden destiny... Her future achievements will likely be very high.’
’Comparable to those in the Tribulation Crossing Realm, even.’
’As long as she doesn’t die prematurely.’
"Follow me?" Su Qing mused, silently observing her destiny.
’I wonder if it’s just me...’
’Su Qing had a feeling that anyone who got close to him had a destiny that was never too shabby.’
’Is it because of me, or because of them?’
’Is it because I give them things?’
Su Qing shook his head.
’This is getting tedious.’
He toyed with the fragment in his hand.
"Follow me for one week," Su Qing said quietly.
"Powerful one, I will serve you with all my heart and soul."
"That won’t be necessary." Su Qing shook his head.
He was only letting her stay so he could observe her character.
"While you’re with me, you’ll study books from the Human Race."
"After one week, I will test you. If you can answer all my questions..."
"...then I will give you this Jade."
Su Qing gave her several books on philosophy, as well as a few volumes of classic poetry.
"And memorizing them won’t be enough. I want you to understand their meaning," Su Qing added.
...
At first, the room remained quiet.
Su Qing watched as she read silently to herself.
He then had her start reading aloud.
She had learned the human language so quickly that reading aloud was simple for her.
「Two days later.」
Xu De came looking for Su Qing.
"The Mystic Road, reaching to the sky’s far edge, where crimson clouds of dawn adorn the maples red, unlike the twilight welcoming a new day..."
The woman’s voice was clear and resonant.
Hearing a woman’s voice reciting poetry from Su Qing’s room, Xu De’s expression turned strange. ’Lord Ye’s hobbies are truly... peculiar. Making a Desire Demon recite literature?’
"Xu De, what is it?"
Su Qing had sensed him standing outside the door for some time.
But Xu De had been listening for a long while without knocking.
Upon hearing Su Qing’s voice, Xu De finally asked, knocking lightly on the door, "Lord Ye, is it a convenient time for me to report?"
"Come in."
Hearing Su Qing’s permission, a curious Xu De pushed the door open.
His eyes immediately fell upon the Desire Demon, who was sitting at a table, reading.
’This is just too weird.’
"Reporting, my lord. Several Demon Fiends have appeared. They’re covered in tough scales, and our Tier One Magical Artifacts can’t even break their defenses."
"They’re ramming the fortress walls as we speak."
"What about fire?" Su Qing asked.
"Their entire bodies are covered in scales. They don’t seem to be very afraid of fire."
"Take me to see them."
"Yi Nan, remember to stay here," Su Qing instructed, then nodded at Xu De.
Yi Nan caught Su Qing’s departure out of the corner of her eye.
She breathed a sigh of relief.
’The Human Race is so strange, making me read all this stuff.’
’Though, a few of the stories are actually pretty good. But he insisted I read all the poems in these books first.’
’That’s why I’m only now daring to read this one.’
Yi Nan quietly swapped out the book she was reading for another one, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
It was as if she had discovered a whole new world.
She read on, filled with curiosity.
...
...
Xu De led Su Qing to the section of the fortress wall that the Demon Fiends were ramming.
The entire wall was vibrating from the impacts.
Su Qing saw them, too.
They were round and covered entirely in blue scales, somewhat like pangolins, but these Demon Fiends were bizarre.
Even the insides of their mouths were lined with scales.
And yet, they only had the strength of the First Realm.
A fireball appeared in Su Qing’s hand and shot out instantly.
It struck one of the creature’s scales.
It exploded on impact.
The Demon Fiends were uninjured, but the fireball’s intense heat, especially the splashing flames, was enough to make them move.
They simply shifted to a different spot and continued ramming the wall.
’Are they brain-dead?’ Seeing this, Su Qing couldn’t help but frown as he glanced in the direction of the Demon Race’s territory.
The Demon Fiends had clearly sensed the threat, yet they continued to ram the fortress wall with suicidal desperation.
Flame gathered in Su Qing’s hand once more.
This time, however, it wasn’t just a ball of flame.
It was a beam of fire.
Xu De, watching from the side, was stunned. ’Has Lord Ye already trained his Fireball Technique to the point of Mastery?’
’It feels like the Fireball Technique, but concentrated into a single point for an explosive burst. It’s even more powerful than a normal fireball!’
’This also gave Xu De a new way of thinking about the Cultivation of Magic. ’Magic can be used like this?’’
The beam of fire instantly pierced through one of the Demon Fiends.
The remaining Demon Fiends only rammed the wall with even more fervor.
This made Su Qing frown even more deeply.
After killing the remaining Demon Fiends, he silently headed back.
"My lord, I’ll take care of the corpses," Xu De said.
"Mhm. Take any Spirit Stones you get and trade them for seeds of plants from the Demon Race’s territory. I want to study them."
"Yes, my lord." Although Xu De found the request strange, he still chose to carry it out.
’What does he want those seeds for? Seeds from Demon Race plants generally can’t even grow in a place like this.’
...
When Su Qing returned, he saw Yi Nan completely engrossed in a book.
Su Qing didn’t disturb her.
Instead, his thoughts returned to what had just happened.
’Those Demon Fiends were clearly intelligent.’
’And yet they chose to die here. I really don’t know what the Demon Race is up to.’
’Could they have some secret deal with the Sects?’
Su Qing pondered it for a moment, but couldn’t come up with an answer, so he put it out of his mind.
All he knew was that many Sects and factions were involved.
’Is the appearance of the Demon Race a good thing or a bad thing?’
Su Qing glanced at the somewhat happy-looking Desire Demon and knew she must have reached an exciting part of the story.
Su Qing chuckled to himself. ’Go on, read away. The happier you are now, the more you’ll feel the author’s blade when you get to the ending.’
’When I finished it, I wanted to send the author a few razor blades myself.’
’Too bad the author died long ago.’
Su Qing understood that some members of the Demon Race were really no different from ordinary people.
They were just trying to make a living, with no other choice.
...
