Chapter 124: Inheritance
Kelly’s eyes shot open.
"HAAH!"
His body jerked violently. Cold sweat drenched his entire body, his shirt sticking to his skin. His chest rose and fell violently as he sucked in air like a drowning man breaking the surface. His hands trembled. His jaw clenched. Every muscle in his body felt tight. His heart hammered so hard it hurt. And even now even awake he could still see the shadow of that being.
As he felt himself calming down he could feel the sweat pooling up where he laid, he controlled his breathing putting his hands onto his head feeling the rising hot temperature of his skin, just the thought of what he saw made goosebumps rise in his hands.
’what was that...from these memories I am having I feel I am already familiar with this floor, I have gone everywhere all its life it stayed here hunted slept mated here I have been moving us from its memories still couldn’t find any exit or the way to the next floor’
His thoughts stopped there now he could feel his breathing calmed down, he looked towards the general direction of where he thought the being was in his dreams.
’was it the boss monster of this floor’
He felt a shudder as he thought of that.
’do we have to beat that thing to move forward, are you fucking with me...that thing is gonna tear up apart for breakfast’
"Shit" Kelly unconsciously muttered as he come to that conclusion.
"No shit, what the hell dude, once in a while I understand but what’s the matter with you having nightmares every damn time" Kei said grumpingly and continued.
"Scared the shit out of me too...you know what next time I am singing you a fucking lullaby" Kei sarcastically said then continued.
"what was it about anyway"
"Don’t know, you know how it is, I forget as soon as I wake up" Kelly answered while standing up and moving towards her to sit beside her.
"figures you would say that" Kei said with suspicion laced in her tone however kelly didn’t react to it and just sat comfortably beside her thinking about his next steps.
When even after some time and still kelly didn’t tell her anything else she knew it was hopeless to get anything out of him so she just sighed and started muttering towards him in low voice even thought knowing kelly could hear her every word at some words even kelly’s lips twitched but he still pretended to not hear anything and kept on ignoring her by now he knew that her instigating him was just one of her tactics to spill the beams he had been a prey to it once and for him that was a lesson learned now he knew better to just ignore.
However, even Kei knew that wouldn’t work so she switched her tactics asking him something she knew he could never ignore.
"wanna smoke" that got a reaction out of him fast he asked urgently.
"You still have some? Didn’t you say previous one was the last"
"yeah last cigarette of the pack I still have another pack" Kei said with a smirk to which kelly made a blank face just staring at her blankly.
"stop sulking like a baby you want some or not" Kei enquired teasingly.
"you really need to ask" to which kelly just rolled his eyes and replied.
"okay" saying so Kei fiddled with her storage bag and after a moment brought out a pack with warning written in bold black letters, though kelly didn’t know if that warning still valid.
’with so many ways to die I can at least remove cancer from my list’
Kelly thought as Kei opened a pack and gestured the pack towards him, realizing her intentions he pulled out one cigarette from the pack, Kei seeing that put the pack back into her storage bag.
"You don’t want some" Kelly asked when he saw her not take one for herself.
Kei just rolled her eyes and replied.
"Obviously we are sharing, I am not lying when I said that was the last pack, limited supply dude, can’t waste the good shit"
"suifs yuu" Kelly shrugged and said the words in the funny tone as he had the cigarette dangling from his mouth, he reached into his pockets for a bit and took out his lighter with it he lighted his cigarette, and after taking along puff as if savoring the taste of it, put the lighter back into his pants.
"you are a weird guy, why the need of lighter when I can just light it up with my magic" Kei as if to demonstrate it had a minuscule flame light up on her fingertips.
Looking at that kelly just smirked and replied.
"No thanks, its not the same princess"
"whatever" Kei rolled her eyes and gestured her hands towards kelly asking for the cigarette.
Kelly after taking a puff handed it to her, Kei holding the bud between her finger and thumb started taking small puffs after a moment she offhandedly commented.
"I am smoking too much, I am worried my lips will darken"
Kelly just snickered and took the bud from her hand and said teasingly,
"then don’t"
Kei just gave him a stinky side eye and then asked what was on her mind for some time.
"what’s the story about that lighter anyway, you take care of it way too much to be mean nothing"

After she asked that kelly didn’t gave her any reply kei seeing him delibrating gave him some space after a while as If making his decision he replied.
"it belonged to my grandfather" Kelly said in a somber tone as if remembering bad memories.
"ohh...weird gift to give to a grandchild I guess" Kei commented offhandedly not noting his tone.
"wasn’t a gift more like an inheritance"
From his tone Kei could decipher somewhat of what happened at least her doubt of why he stares at that lighter longingly sometimes like looking at his Ex-girlfriend is answered.
There was a brief lull in their conversation as both of them didn’t know what else to say to each other after a while Kelly continued.
"He was amazing you know...always knew the right words to say...taught me everything how to hunt how to fish...hell even how to talk to girls, he was a strong man a tough man...had a very big heart never saw him without that charming smile of his even when he was shot he..."
Saying till then Kelly stopped as if the next words were like poison for him, his brows furrowed in a way that said he was remembering some particular nasty things, seeing him like that Kei didn’t know what to say. Kei don’t do comforting words, and lucky for her Kelly didn’t like hearing those so they just sat there each in their own thoughts while string of smoke connected them both after a while even that ended Kelly took the last puff and stroked it out of existence after throwing the bud in the flame he looked at Kei’s side profile, her face lightning up from the flames accenting her jawline, her perfectly raised in a bun with her eyes lost in focus her pink lips glistening with moisture Kelly gulped the saliva formed inside his mouth mesmerized for a moment.
’how come a woman change so much when she opens her mouth’
Kelly thought, Kei ofcourse felt his gaze as a beautiful woman she was used to it now she even had a sixth sense to feel who was watching normally she would have glared back and cursed anyone who dares to do that, however as she felt no disrespect in kelly’s gaze she let it go, secretly she even like this kind of admiration, after a while shaking out of his thoughts kelly said.
"you should rest, I will take over now..." Kelly hesitated a bit then continued, "I think I know where to go tomorrow"
Kei just stared at him confused.
"And how would you know that "
"because I have a better sense of direction then you...and unlike you I know the difference between my left and right" Kelly just smirked and answer making Kei feel embarrassed as she remembered when she told him to follow her and told to take left instead she took right.
Knowing saying anything more would just invite more teasing she just stood up and went to rest while kelly just watched her as closed her eyes falling fast asleep then he again looked towards the flame still burning through her mana and thought about his next steps.
