Chapter 180 180: Chunin Exams #39
Konohagakure No Sato :
Uzumaki Estate ( Morning ):
Naruto casually adjusted the collar of his custom black-and-red overalls, making sure the fit was perfect. Next, he checked his crimson hand-guards, strapped on his utility belt, and adjusted his forehead protector—deciding to tie it securely across his brow today instead of slinging it over his shoulder like usual.
Lastly, Naruto did a final inventory check on his weapon pouches and storage scrolls. Stashed safely inside them was a massive stockpile of explosion tags , Kunai , Blades , Sword , Shuriken and all his tactical gears—easily enough firepower to wage a solo war against a platoon of a hundred shinobi.
(....With this, I am officially ready for the mini-war.... As a 'loyal' Konoha shinobi, of course.)
Naruto nodded to himself, double-checking every single piece of gear one last time. Despite his completely calm exterior, his heart was pounding, sending a rush of adrenaline-fueled nervousness straight through his veins.
After all, mini-war or not, it wowuld still be war zone. A single stray kunai, a random explosion tag, or any enemy Jonin could easily kick his ass straight into the Pure Land if he wasn't careful.
(...It's good that I learned the Flying Thunder God.)
Even with that comforting thought, Naruto had no intention of letting his guard down. Having the FTG was great, but if your reaction time slipped and you didn't teleport away exactly on time, you were still completely screwed.
Woof!
Hearing a sharp bark from down by his feet, Naruto looked down to see Simba staring up at him from the floor. Naruto's eyes twitched slightly.
"NO...!!"
"WOOOowoOWOOWOWOW!"
"I said NO...!! Just stay put , be an obedient pup, and Play with Po "
"WOOOOOOO!"
Ignoring Simba's dramatic protests, Naruto walked out of his bedroom and stepped into the front yard. Waiting for him right beside the porch was a familiar, silent silhouette wearing an ANBU mask.
Naruto gave Yugao a brief nod, then bent down to scoop the highly reluctant Simba up into his arms.
"Alright, look, you're just going to hang out with Po for today, and I'll come pick you up tonight or tomorrow "
Without giving the pup another second to complain, Naruto activated his technique, instantly teleporting Simba directly over to Po's side deep within the Forest of Death.
Over the last few days, Naruto had used his Shadow Clones to subtly alter the giant bear's territory. He had cleared out a spot near a secluded small lake and dug out a massive, highly fortified new cave for Po. Hidden deep inside that cave was a completely stocked safe house for him—just in case everything in the village went entirely to hell.
(With the estate empty, even if rogue ninja break in and completely destroy the place, it won't actually hurt anything much ... but if they found Simba, it'd be a completely different story.)
There was simply no telling if some enemy ninja would brutally kill a puppy just for the twisted fun of it, or blow up the house just to cause chaos.
Because of that, Naruto had already quietly evacuated all his actual valuables and money from the estate, choosing to let the house survive the upcoming invasion on its own terms rather than using Shadow Clones trying to defend a piece of property.
(I seriously doubt anyone is going to try and camp out in the Forest of Death or pick fights with giant chakra beasts during an active invasion, so hanging out with Po should be safe.)
Of course, Po wasn't an illegal resident either; Naruto had formally registered the giant bear at the Hokage's Office as an official Summon Beast under his name. The massive bear had even been issued a custom, giant-sized Konoha forehead protector so that no overzealous village ninja would mistake him for a wild threat if they accidentally crossed paths with him.
With Simba successfully out of harm's way, Naruto stepped back into the open air and let out a sharp whistle.
"Tweet-Tweet!"
Right on cue, Sadako and the rest of his avian summons descended from the sky. Activating his [Avian Link] skill, Naruto mentally passed down a strict set of reconnaissance instructions.
Sadako took off immediately, flying out to secure the perimeter of his property, while Rem and Ram hovered steadily directly above his head, acting as his personal aerial sentries.
Even though his Chakra sense Skill and the [Kagura's Mind Eye] allowed him to keep a passive track on everything moving around him, having a literal bird's-eye view of the battlefield was always an advantage.
Seeing that his entire network was locked down and ready, Naruto nodded to himself, turning his gaze toward the silent ANBU beside him.
"Yosh. Let's move out, Yugao-nee."
"Hm."
Naruto turned on his heel and walked out of the estate gates, making his way through the familiar streets toward the Konoha Arena—the massive, custom-built stadium situated on the outer edge of the village. With a faint rustle of fabric, Yugao vanished from sight, keeping pace with him from the safety of the surrounding rooftops.
As Naruto strolled through the village streets, he casually flipped over his arm to check his stopwatch. The digital display blinked back at him:
9:28 AM
(The Finals officially kick off at 10:00 AM sharp. The Kazekage..... or rather, Orochimaru should have already 'arrived' in the village yesterday.)
As Naruto walked, his eyes scanned the massive waves of Konoha civilians and visiting tourists currently flooding the streets. Everyone was dressed up, moving briskly in the exact same direction with massive, excited smiles plastered all over their faces.
Fragments of their casual, oblivious conversations drifted over to his ears from every direction:
"Finally, the Chunin Exam Finals are here...!"
"Hehe, Papa, I really want to see some cool Ninjutsu today!"
"Of course, sweetie! Today we're going to get to watch a ton of absolute awesome Ninjutsu!"
"Yep! I heard that out of the ten total participants who made it to the finals, seven of them are from right here in Konoha!"
"As expected of our village! We're already completely dominating the entire exam."
"Wait, who else actually made it in besides our guys?"
"I heard two are from the Sand Village, and one managed to get in from the Sound Village."
"Who's in the very first match again? I completely forgot."
"It's that Dosu guy from the Sound against Uzumaki Naruto from Konoha."
"....Wait, you mean that 'Demon-Fox' kid?"
"Yeah, him! And get this—I heard that Uzumaki Naruto is actually the single strongest Genin in the entire roster this year."
"Are you serious?!"
"Mama, I want candy!" / "Alright, alright, hold on."
"I need to pee!"
"Yeah, for real! They're saying he's even stronger than that Gaara from the Sand—the son of the Kazekage himself "
"Wait..... where the hell am I?"
"Hoh... as expected of the Demon Fox, then. He really is monstrously strong."
"Haha, come on, let's keep moving, let's not get delayed!"
"We've also got the Hyuga, the Uchiha, the Yamanaka, and the Aburame competing! Konoha looks strong this year."
"Hmm."
Naruto quietly watched the massive crowds push past him. Young kids, middle-aged civilians and merchants, excited couples, wealthy nobles, and entire families were all moving together to witness the Chunin Exams as if it were a casual sports match or the Olympics.
Seeing all those bright smiles and naive expectations, Naruto let out a slow sigh.
(.....I really hope the Third and the higher-ups are ready for the sh*itshow that's about to drop on)
Considering the massive list of red flags and the explicit presence of a foreign Jinchuriki inside the walls, it was obvious the village leadership must have set up some kind of counter-strategy.
If the Sand or Sound armies tried to mobilize a full-scale invasion force, the Sensory wall of active Byakugan users and barrier sensors should pick them up the second they crossed the border—assuming the village was actually operating at maximum readiness.
Regardless of the politics, looking at the completely oblivious faces of the crowd gave Naruto a tiny, unexpected twinge of guilt.
Even though the vast majority of these villagers had spend years maliciously bad-mouting him, isolating him, and spreading disgusting rumors about his existence, Naruto wasn't some unhinged psychopath or an edgy villain who actively wanted to watch them get slaughtered just for some petty personal atonement or Enjoyment /.
( ....I am not that Mental )
That was the exact, reason why he had gone out of his way to leak the clues to the brass in the first place.
Even though he wanted to farm merit points from this disaster and secure his own selfish advantages, his fundamental morals still didn't allow him to take sadistic pleasure in a brutal, bloody war that explicitly targeted defenseless civilians and innocent kids.
(...Whatever. Let's just stay entirely focused on our own goals.)
Shaking his head to forcibly dispel the distracting, sentimental thoughts, Naruto snapped back to reality. The dense treeline of the forest suddenly cleared away, and the colossal shape of the Konoha Arena loomed perfectly into view.
Naruto's very first glimpse of the stadium stopped him dead in his tracks.
Emerging past the winding dirt paths and the thick canopy of Konoha's ancient forests, a gargantuan circular fortress rose out of the landscape like a colosseum built for legends. Its immense outer walls formed a flawless, soaring ring, completely towering over the surrounding trees and utterly dominating the horizon.
Weathered, reddish-brown panels lined the entire exterior, reinforced by massive wooden support beams that gave the stadium a heavy, ancient appearance—as if the structure itself had witnessed a thousand bloody battles across the eras.
The building felt less like a sports stadium and more like a massive monument to the history of the shinobi world itself.
From an aerial view, the arena looked like a giant wooden crown dropped right into the center of a vast emerald sea. The endless trees surrounding it only emphasized its sheer, ridiculous scale, making it look infinitely more imposing.
Up at the front, a wide stone pathway led straight toward a massive, dark entrance tunnel at the base of the walls—the exact gateway through which the final contenders would walk to test their strength under the eyes of the world.
Peeking over the edge, Naruto could just barely make out the vast, open-air battlefield hidden deep within the center of the outer ring. Completely cut off from the outside world, it promised a massive, unrestricted terrain perfect for high-level ninja clashes. Unlike the cramped, claustrophobic indoor hall where the preliminaries had been fought, this place felt grand, utterly open, and alive with electrifying expectation.
This was no ordinary arena.
This was the stage where the Chūnin Exam Finals would play out.
Where the leaders of great nations would watch from private boxes.
Where elite, hardened Jōnin would pass judgment.
Where wealthy nobles, powerful merchants, and foreign dignitaries would gather.
And where thousands of ordinary Konoha civilians & Tourists would pack into the stands, completely desperate to catch a single glimpse of high-level shinobi prowess .
( Together with Other nations Spies too )
This was the place where reputations would be Forged—or shattered into dust.
As Naruto stared up at the towering walls of the stadium, a strange, volatile mixture of raw excitement and cold determination surged through his chest. The arena felt completely enormous, far grander than anything he had originally imagined.
For a split second, he could almost hear the deafening roar of thousands of spectators packing the stands, screaming their lungs out as weapons clashed in the dirt below.
This was the ultimate stage he had spent months dreaming about—and explicitly planning for.
Not a hidden training ground.
Not an academy classroom.
And definitely not some forgotten, lonely corner of the village.
This was a global stage where the eyes of the entire world would be watching his every move. And somewhere deep within those towering wooden walls, Naruto knew exactly what he was going to do. He was going to prove his dominance to all of these stupid, easily manipulated sheep.

(I wonder what kind of Sign-In reward the system is going to drop on me for checking into this place...)
Forcibly calming his racing heart, Naruto took a deep, grounding breath. He adjusted his crimson hand-guards, made sure his belt was secure, and calmly stepped up to the main entrance checkpoint.
"Papers," the gate guard said, holding out a hand.
"...Here," Naruto replied, passing over his credentials.
The guard scanned the documents quickly before nodding. "Alright, participants to the right... That way."
"Hmm. Thank you."
Naruto turned to move toward the designated side door, but just as he took his first step, a loud shout echoed from behind the barrier.
"GOOD LUCK, UZUMAKI NARUTO!"
"YEAH! KICK THEIR ASS!"
" Ehh , He is Uzumaki Naruto ?? "
" ...Isn't he a little too handsome for a 'monster' "
" I am counting on your WIN , UZUMAKI NARUTO "
" WHere is bathroom "
" YEAH , KICK those other SHINobi;s ass "
" GO GO GO "
" I thought he was some nobles Child "
" right right "
Naruto paused and looked back at the Chunin guards and the people around the entrance standing at the entrance. They were already openly cheering for him before his match had even begun. A look of bewilderment crossed Naruto's face as the underlying meaning of their sudden support slowly clicked in his mind.
(...It seems their perception of me has already changed during these past three years.)
As for the actual reason behind it? It was funny how they only chose to remember the 'Demon-Fox' now that the entire village's reputation was actively at stake on the global stage.
Still, Naruto didn't waste too much mental energy dwelling on it. Over these last three years—or more accurately, over the past year since his graduation—he had definitely noticed a shift in how both the shinobi forces and the average villagers treated him.
(Well, they are mostly just sheep anyway.)
Of course, another major catalyst for this shift was the Third Hokage's explicit 'orders' and public attitude toward him, which definetely forced the village to alter its behavior. Because of that, seeing these guards actively rooting for him now, Naruto slapped a bright, energetic expression onto his face and played his part perfectly.
"Osu! Just wait until I'm a Chunin, senpais!"
Naruto waved his hand with a confident smile, stepping through the doorway and navigating into the winding interior corridors amidst The Crowd gathered at the entrance .
His decision to maintain a positive, lighthearted front around these people came down to a pragmatic calculation.
On one hand, Naruto never took the shallow gossip of the sheep seriously enough to let it genuinely affect his mood. This is was especially true Now .
On the other hand, he needed to establish a flawless public track record—he had to make sure the registry or intelligence showed that Uzumaki Naruto didn't harbor a single drop of hatred for the villagers.
He needed everyone to believe he had simply been going through a distant, detached phase before, exactly like a proper, ideal inheritor of the 'Will of Fire.' He needed to look like a kid who just wanted everyone to acknowledge his existence, a kid whose ultimate dream was still to become the Hokage.
This was a long-term narrative mask that Naruto wanted to maintain for himself, and it was a strategy that would remain completely unchanged, even if the Third Hokage died today.
(.......Grandpa Hokage.)
As Naruto moved deeper into the stone corridors, his mind began to wander again. Vibrant memories of his time spent with Sarutobi Hiruzen flashed through his head.
He remembered every piece of political and PERSONAL support the old man had quietly handed him over the last three years. The more he allowed himself to remember, the heavier his mood became, and his walking pace naturally began to slow down.
"Oy, Naruto...!!"
suddenly Ino's voice instantly shattered his train of thought. Blinked out of his trance, Naruto realized he had already walked through the corridors and was now standing directly inside the official participants' waiting area.
Shifting his gaze, Naruto saw Ino and Hinata actively walking over to greet him. He waved back at them, stepping forward to close the distance while simultaneously taking a quick, tactical look around the environment.
The waiting stands were situated at a second-floor elevation, providing a flawless, wide-angle view of the massive open-air dueling arena below, which had been intricately terraformed with patches of tall grass, dense clusters of trees, jagged rock formations, and even a small, isolated lake.
Sweeping his eyes across the rest of the open-air balcony, Naruto noticed that all finalists had already arrived, and right now, every single one of them was staring directly back at him. The latest Newcomer
Ino, Hinata
Gaara, Temari
Dosu
Shikamaru, Neji, and Sasuke.
(Hmm. Is there someone missing from the roster??)
"Naruto-kun."
"Eh?!" Hinata gasped, her eyes widening.
"Kyaaa!" Ino shrieked, jumping back a step.
"What the...?!" Temari hissed, her hand instinctively twitching toward her giant fan.
"Since when has he been standing there?!" Neji muttered, his veins bulging slightly around his temples.
Over in a secluded corner, Sasuke was brooding entirely by himself. His eyes narrowed in pure frustration as he noticed the anomaly for the first time again
(Do I seriously have to use the Sharingan just to notice this guy's presence?)
Even Gaara, who was leaning against the wall with dark, bloodshot eyes, stared intently at the newcomer.
(Once again... I didn't even notice his approach until he spoke.)
"Huh??? ....SHINO!" Naruto blurted out, taking a half-step back.
In his brief, absent-minded state, Naruto had completely forgotten to factor in Shino's existence, and the quiet Aburame genin had somehow managed to materialize directly behind his shoulder at some point without making a single sound.
Calming his racing pulse, Naruto looked back at Shino's stoic expression and let out a dry sigh.
"Sometimes I seriously think you do this kind of stuff on purpose."
"...Must be your imagination," Shino replied completely flatly, lifting a single finger to adjust his dark sunglasses.
"No way! You definitely do this on purpose!" Ino chimed in aggressively, marching over after overhearing Naruto's complaint.
"....I also think so," Hinata added softly, nodding her head in agreement as she looked at her quiet teammate.
Realizing his actions were drawing a bit too much unwanted attention, Shino mentally noted the tactical error.
(It seems I need to tone it down from now on.)
Shino adjusted his sunglasses yet again, his voice entirely unbothered. "...Must be your imagination."
Hearing the exact same robotic response a second time, both Naruto and Ino's left eyes twitched in synchronized annoyance. Naruto immediately turned his head toward Ino, his voice dropping into a serious, warning tone.
"You'd better be careful, Ino. I am certain he is going to use that thing against you in your match."
"....Sh*t."
Ino violently grabbed at her own blonde hair in a minor panic. Thanks to Naruto's warning, she realized that bugs weren't her only problem anymore; she also had to devise a foolproof countermeasure to ensure Shino didn't pull out that creepy, ghostly nonsense during their fight.
Seeing Ino already spiraling into a state of dramatic denial while Shino remained completely silent, Naruto shifted his attention over to Hinata. She looked significantly more mature today, her stance grounded, with clean white bandages wrapped tightly around her hands and feet in preparation for a brutal taijutsu war.
"How are you feeling, Hinata?"
"Um, it's okay, Naruto-kun."
"....."
Naruto suddenly felt a wave of social awkwardness wash over him as the conversation died down. He honestly didn't know what the perfect thing to say to Hinata was right now, considering she was about to step into a life-or-death family feud against Neji. Thinking quickly, Naruto offered a reassuring smile.
"Don't be nervous. I'm going to be right here cheering for you the entire time."
".....Um." Hinata gave a small nod, but Naruto could easily see right through her front—she was far too anxious today.
"Just do your best. I am right here with you."
Naruto reached out, gently grabbing her trembling hand and giving it a supportive, grounding squeeze. The sudden physical contact caused the gentle Hyuga girl's entire face to flush a brilliant, radiant red out of pure, overwhelming happiness.
"Not just that dumbo! I am also right here with you, Hinata!" Ino cut in, stepping forward and aggressively grabbing Hinata's other hand to offer her own brand of support. "Just go out there and kick that broody bastard's ass! You have my full, unconditional support!"
Feeling the warmth of her two friends holding her hands, the heavy knot of anxiety in Hinata's chest loosened up a bit. She offered a genuine smile.
"You too, Ino-chan."
"....I don't recall ever doing anything to offend you, Hinata-san," Shino suddenly chimed in from the background, his voice a perfect monotone as he reacted to the implicit exclusion.
Hearing Shino's unexpected dry wit, Hinata's face somehow burned even hotter. "....T-That's not it at all, Shino-san!"
"Don't pay attention to him, he's just messing around with you," Shikamaru muttered lazily, dragging his feet along the floor as he strolled over to join the huddle.
Soon enough, the core group of Leaf friends had completely gathered together in a tight circle, casually chatting and joking around to bleed off the immense pre-exam tension.
Naruto casually glanced away from the group to scan the rest of the room. Gaara and Temari were standing in an isolation in one far corner of the balcony, while Sasuke and Neji were occupying completely separate corners entirely by themselves, radiating pure, unapproachable edge.
Seeing the Uchiha, Naruto gave Sasuke a casual nod and waved his hand, silently signaling for him to stop brooding and come hang out with the group. But Sasuke just let out a dismissive grunt and looked away.
Seing this ,Naruto's eye twitched.
(.....And people say girls are high maintenance.)
Shrugging it off, Naruto shifted his gaze over to the Sand Village's side and gave Gaara and Temari a polite nod of acknowledgment.
The response was instantaneous.
"....."
Gaara offered a completely blank, hollow stare that promised violence.
"Hmph. Playboy," Temari muttered loudly, crossing her arms and turning her back to him.
(What the f*ck?)* Naruto thought to himself, completely dumbfounded.
Totally forgetiing that He was still casually holding Hinata's hand, with Ino standing pressed right up against his side in full view of the room. Naruto's eye twitched for the third time today as he clearly overheard Temari's distinctly un-whispered insult.
Before Naruto could even think about defending his honor, a sharp shadow dropped out of the sky. A Leaf Tokubetsu Jonin materialized right beside the group, a signature senbon needle resting casually between his lips.
"Alright, people, we are officially starting," Shiranui Genma announced, his sharp eyes cutting across the room. "All participants, follow me this way for the opening ceremony."
Hearing the official call to arms, the casual atmosphere instantly vanished. Everyone slowly stood up, their expressions hardening as they filed out through a massive set of double doors, descending the stone steps until their sandals finally touched the dirt of the open battlefield below.
As the ten finalists lined up in a neat row in the center of the stadium, Genma casually spat his senbon to the side of his mouth and spoke up, his voice carrying clearly across the grass.
"Take a good look around you, and throw your chests out.... because today, you people are the undisputed stars of the Chunin Exam Finals."
Following his advice, Naruto and the others lifted their gazes toward the soaring spectators' stands. The entire colosseum was completely packed to maximum capacity with a sea of roaring human faces.
High up in the main tower, sitting prominently in the shadows of the Kage box, was the Third Hokage alongside the 'Kazekage.'
Slowly, the elderly Hokage stepped forward, leaning over the red railing of the balcony as he began to address the crowd.
"EVERYONE! Thank you very much for traveling all this way to Konohagakure no Sato, the Village Hidden in the Leaves, for this year's Chunin Exams!"
The Hokage's voice, heavily reinforced by a precise layer of chakra, rolled across the massive dimensions of the stadium like thunder, echoing perfectly into the ears of every single spectator.
"We will now officially begin the final round matches for the ten exceptional genin who have successfully fought their way through the grueling preliminaries, overcoming all manner of dangerous obstacles to thoroughly prove themselves as qualified shinobi of their respective hidden villages!"
A strange, heavy weight settled over Naruto and the other contestants as tens of thousands of judgmental, expectant eyes locked directly onto their positions.
As the Hokage continued his grand speech, the deafening noise of the arena slowly began to bleed away, replaced by an oppressive, suffocating pressure that grew heavier by the second.
"Now then.... let us watch their battles unfold until the very end!"
The moment the speech concluded, the stadium completely erupted.
The crowd roared in a deafening crescendo.
"OHHHHHHHHHH!"
The sheer volume of the sound caused several of the genin to nervously gulp, their chests tightening. Sensing the shift in the air, the official proctor, Shiranui Genma, stepped directly in front of the line of contestants to deliver his final briefing.
"Listen up, you guys," Genma said, dropping his hands casually into his pockets as his eyes evaluated the ten genin standing before him. "The terrain down here might look completely different from what you're used to, but the baseline rules remain exactly the same as the preliminaries: there are no rules."
Genma took a deepbreath, the senbon in his mouth shifting slightly.
"The matches will continue uninterrupted until one side either dies.... or explicitly acknowledges defeat."
Watching the varied, tense reactions flashing across the faces of the genin, Genma nodded in satisfaction. He casually chewed on his needle before dropping the hammer.
"HOWEVER... if I personally judge that a match has been fully settled, I will step in and stop the fight right then and there. Arguments or complaints regarding my interventions will absolutely not be tolerated."
"...."
"UNDERSTOOD?"
When no one stepped forward to question or argue against the parameters, Genma gave a sharp nod and pulled a crisp official ledger from his vest.
"In that case... the first match of the finals will be...."
"..."
" Uzumaki Naruto Of Leaf VS Dosu Kinuta Of Sound"
"...."
"Just these two will remain on the field," Genma commanded, gesturing toward the exit tunnels. "The rest of you guys... clear the area and head back up to the waiting stands immediately."
Naruto stood his ground as the line of finalists broke apart, their figures slowly retreating into the shadows. Ino gave him a encouraging nod as she walked past, while Hinata paused for a brief, lingering moment, her eyes locked onto his before she silently vanished into the tunnel alongside the others.
Left alone on the massive field, Naruto casually drifted over to his designated starting position. He turned his body, his sharp blue eyes locking onto the heavily bandaged figure of the Sound genin standing across from him—a guy who, by all accounts of the original timeline, should have been slaughtered by Gaara in the middle of the night and never even had the luxury of stepping foot inside this stadium.
(Now then...) Naruto thought, his mind instantly shifting into a cold, tactical calculus as he measured the distance between them.
( How should I do this ? )
