Chapter 465 - 233: Wanyuan Plain, the Chaotic Abyss
The sun hung overhead like a colossal fireball, emitting suffocating heat and a blinding glare, yet it couldn’t disperse the gloom that blanketed the entire sky.
Jagged black mountains rolled across the distant horizon, with what appeared to be large flocks of birds circling above them.
Fierce winds howled past, sending millstone-sized rocks rumbling and rolling, while clouds of sand and dust filled the air.
Pei Ze stood on a rocky outcropping, gazing out at the wasteland before him.
This was Pazunia, the first layer of the Abyss.
In the Material Plane, it was generally known as the Wanyuan Plain.
After much deliberation, Pei Ze had ultimately chosen the Abyss as his first stop.
There wasn’t much of a difference between choosing the Abyss or Hell, but Pei Ze preferred dealing with demons over cunning and insidious devils.
The latter, while chaotic and cruel, at least didn’t require constant vigilance to avoid being ensnared in some scheme.
’I should find Broken Domain Town first.’
Pei Ze slowly levitated into the air, then picked a direction at random and flew off.
The Wanyuan Plain was the safest of the Abyss’s layers—provided the Blood War hadn’t broken out.
As it happened, Pei Ze’s luck was good. It seemed to be a period of truce between the demons and devils.
Every so often, the two sides in the Blood War would pause the fighting, giving each other time to rally troops and gather supplies in preparation for the next, even bloodier and more ferocious conflict.
During these intervals, the first layers of the Abyss and Hell would usher in a brief period of peace.
Of course, this "peace" was purely relative.
As the most chaotic places in the Multiverse, slaughter and battle were constantly erupting in the Abyss and Hell.
As for Broken Domain Town, it was the safest place on the Wanyuan Plain.
It was a town established by a succubus named Red Shroud. She was said to have the backing of a Great Demon, so no other demon dared to cause trouble there, making it a rather orderly place.
Once inside Broken Domain Town, one didn’t have to worry about being attacked by demons at random.
This was all information Pei Ze had researched beforehand.
To participate in the Blood War, one first had to go to Broken Domain Town, find Red Shroud to "sign up," and temporarily become an "ally" of the demons.
Otherwise, joining the Blood War rashly would only make one prey for demons and devils alike.
Pei Ze flew aimlessly over the wasteland.
The Abyss is the embodiment of all chaos, the place where all things random and unexpected are born and where they die.
This chaos wasn’t just reflected in the nature of demons; it also permeated the plane’s weather, time, and environment.
The terrain here was in constant flux, with no fixed landmarks to speak of. A map was out of the question.
Therefore, without a demon to lead the way, finding any specific location in the Abyss was purely a matter of luck.
And Pei Ze’s goal right now was to find just such a "guide."
"SKRAW! SKRAW!"
A piercing shriek suddenly echoed from the distance.
Pei Ze focused his gaze and saw several demons flying in his direction.
At first glance, they looked like birds, but closer inspection revealed a hybrid of vulture and human, a demon with powerful muscles and enormous gray wings.
They had the heads of vultures atop thick, long necks.
’Flomar.’
Pei Ze recognized this type of demon instantly.
Flomars were a type of Low-Tier Demon, very common in the Abyss.
He was a little disappointed.
Low-Tier Demons were not good candidates for communication.
Unless they were the kind tamed by a High-Tier Demon to serve as slaves, the minds of most Low-Tier Demons were filled with nothing but slaughter and feeding—they were more bestial than beasts.
A Flomar’s combat power was only slightly better than that of a Third-level Wizard Apprentice. Pei Ze didn’t even need to cast Magic or channel elemental energy. A single, simple spiritual assault was enough to make the three Flomars’ heads explode. Their headless bodies wavered in mid-air for a moment before plummeting to the ground.
Without sparing the corpses a glance, Pei Ze continued to fly forward, spreading his spiritual perception to search for any nearby signs of life.
With his current Spiritual Power, he could cover a ten-kilometer radius, pinpoint the location of living beings, and roughly gauge their power level from their energy signatures.
Before long, Pei Ze found a target.
A caravan of five large wagons was making its way slowly across the open wasteland.
Pulling the wagons were yak-like beasts of burden, each as large as a carriage.
More than a dozen Kuasai Demons flitted about in the air, wings spread wide, arrogantly shrieking conflicting orders to direct the beasts of burden.
Six Babu Demons flanked the caravan, following silently on foot as their cold gazes constantly scanned the surroundings.
And on the first wagon sat a succubus.
Her enormous black, bat-like wings were folded, enveloping her upper body as if to shield her from the sun, revealing only a bewitchingly beautiful face.
The curve of her waist and back was exquisite. Her exposed thighs were full and rounded, her skin smooth and utterly flawless.
The fiery-red tip of a whip peeked out from under her wings, resting against her inner thigh, making her porcelain-white skin stand out even more.
A banner was planted at the rear of the wagon, but it flapped so wildly in the fierce wind that it was impossible to make out its design.
Pei Ze’s eyes lit up.
Succubi weren’t considered High-Tier Demons in the Abyss, but they were excellent for communication.
They weren’t strong combatants and could only survive in the Abyss by currying favor and pleasing High-Tier Demons.
As such, succubi had no taste for pointless slaughter. They much preferred to use their stunning beauty and charm to bewitch their opponents, luring their targets to their doom.
