Chapter 127
< World War II - The Battle of London (2) >
August 3, 1940
Rome, the Capital of Italy
Already in chaos as South Tyrol was handed over to Germany, the devastating defeat in the Battle of Malta sent a shockwave across all of Italy.
Amidst this, the German Army's offensive, which began in the Veneto region, started to rapidly push back the already battered Italian army.
As the fall of Venice became imminent, Mussolini, who should have been controlling the situation, had lost all will and was wasting his days on alcohol and drugs.
While the King and the National Fascist Party conspired for Mussolini's expulsion and the subsequent course of action, another meeting was being held to discuss Italy's future.
"If this goes on, Italy is finished."
Everyone present at the meeting agreed with the statement from Ivanoe Bonomi, the leader of the Italian Social Democrats.
