Chapter 168: Xie Changliu
"Is there something else you wanted to tell me?" Xie Changning’s brow had furrowed the moment she heard people were causing a disturbance. But when she turned and saw the man beside her hesitating to speak, she understood. Lin Yongsheng must have something else he hadn’t told her.
He was debating whether or not to say it.
"It’s just..."
Put on the spot, Lin Yongsheng was still conflicted, but he finally forced the words out. "There’s a guy in there who claims to be your brother, Factory Director. We felt it wasn’t our place to get physical."
’Otherwise, why would we have let them cause a scene in the factory for so long?’
Hearing Lin Yongsheng’s explanation, Xie Changning cut straight to the point. "Why didn’t you call me?"
"I did, but no one answered. That’s why..."
"I know, Vice Factory Director Wang has been helping out. But you don’t need to spare my feelings. I have no brothers." ’Brothers from my adoptive family? They hardly count.’
Xie Changning’s reply was cold and final.
Hearing her say that, a flash of regret crossed Lin Yongsheng’s eyes. ’If I’d known, I would have just called the police and let him talk to them!’
"Next time someone claims to be my family and causes trouble in the factory, report it to the police directly. The only family member I have is the Director of the Chuncheng Foreign Trade Bureau, Xie Changyi, my biological sister."
"Understood!"
With that declaration from Xie Changning, Lin Yongsheng knew exactly what to do.
He sent someone to the nearby police station to file a report, then followed Xie Changning to the workshop where the disturbance was happening.
From a distance, Xie Changning could hear someone shouting, even mentioning her name and using it to throw their weight around.
The corners of Xie Changning’s lips lifted slightly.
Lin Yongsheng didn’t know Xie Changning well; he only sensed the dangerous drop in the atmosphere around her. Had it been Wang Guofu from the Anong County Machinery Factory, he would have recognized this as the prelude to her fury.
She was very angry.
Arriving at the workshop, Xie Changning shoved the main doors open.
The previously noisy workshop fell silent in an instant. Xie Changning saw a familiar figure standing on a piece of machinery, weapon in hand, about to smash it!
Xie Changning: "Get down!"
She barked the command and, ignoring the onlookers, strode forward. With an agile leap, she was in front of the man. She grabbed him by the hair and slammed him to the ground.
She was completely indifferent to whether he would be injured.
"AHHH—!! Xie Changning, you dare treat me like this! Believe it or not, I’m telling Mom and Dad!"
The man who had been thrown to the ground shrieked, still yelling defiantly at Xie Changning.
Xie Changning ignored him and turned to the surrounding workers. "Seize this group of troublemakers!" ’I’ll see who gave them the nerve to cause trouble here!’
At Xie Changning’s words, the workers instantly found their backbone. No longer hesitant, they moved forward and restrained the several troublemakers.
Xie Changning walked over to the man who had been about to destroy the machine. She squatted down, pinched his chin, and said coldly, "If I remember correctly, you’re from a ’blacklisted’ family, aren’t you? How are you able to work at a supply and marketing cooperative?"
"If you can be a factory director, why can’t I work at the supply and marketing cooperative!"
The man tried to break free from Xie Changning’s grip.
Unfortunately for him, as he struggled, the factory workers had already pinned him down, giving him no chance to escape.
"Since you’re not going to tell the truth, you can tell it at the police station. I’m sure you’ll be more willing to talk once you get there." Xie Changning only asked once; she would not ask a second time.
This person was none other than Xie Changliu, the younger brother from her adoptive family.
Xie Changliu stared viciously at Xie Changning. "You just wait! Mom and Dad won’t let you get away with this!"
"They’re *your* mom and dad, not mine."
Xie Changning gave him a condescending glance before speaking.
Xie Changliu wasn’t aware that Xie Changning knew the truth about her birth. He was stunned. "You know everything?"
’No wonder this damn girl dared to treat me like this. She knows the truth about her birth!’
"Even if my mom and dad aren’t your biological parents, they still raised you! Is this how you treat their son?!"
"Gag him."
Xie Changning didn’t want to hear his shouting, nor did she want to waste time getting entangled with him. She would just wait for the police.
Lin Yongsheng glanced at Xie Changning’s expression, then swallowed hard. He silently waved at the workers, signaling that after they had the troublemakers secured, those who could should get back to work.
’Stop gawking.’
The workers nodded in agreement. They could see their factory director was on the verge of exploding, and they didn’t dare do anything at a time like this.
’Who would have thought? Our factory director is so severe.’
No one knew the relationship between Xie Changning and Xie Changliu, but they could guess a few things from their conversation.
However, although the factory workers didn’t know Xie Changning’s personality well, they knew she was a capable and resourceful factory director.
Someone like that wouldn’t fare poorly anywhere.
Based on Xie Changliu’s attitude toward Xie Changning alone, everyone felt that she was justified in treating him this way.
No one thought there was anything wrong with what Xie Changning did.
The workers spontaneously stood guard over the troublemakers.
Two of the more timid men, hearing Xie Changning was going to call the police, immediately grew frightened. They pleaded with her, "Miss, we didn’t come here to make trouble. We just wanted your factory to give us a share of the facial soap."
"That’s right, we came to cooperate in good faith."
"We didn’t tell him to destroy the machines, really!"
Xie Changning’s gaze swept over their faces. "What exactly did he tell you that made you bold enough to come with him and seek a partnership with me?"
If Xie Changning remembered correctly, supply and marketing cooperatives were usually only found in places below the county level.
Customer traffic wasn’t high, and since people’s finances weren’t great, they wouldn’t choose such a refined, high-priced facial soap.
At Xie Changning’s question, the men subconsciously glanced at each other, then all lowered their eyes in unison.
"He just said we’d get rich if we came with him, so we came."
They were clearly holding something back.
Xie Changning didn’t believe a word of it. Since they were unwilling to talk, she wouldn’t press them. She just nodded and turned to inspect the workshop for any damage.
This way, when the police arrived, she could report all the damages at once.
The police arrived faster than expected.
"Vice Factory Director Lin, you have people causing trouble here?" As soon as a police officer entered the workshop, he saw Lin Yongsheng standing by the door, lost in thought.
Hearing the officer’s voice, Lin Yongsheng immediately turned around.
"Yes! These people have severely disrupted our factory’s production, wasted our workers’ time, and even damaged our workshop!" Seeing Xie Changning inspecting the damage, Lin Yongsheng quickly spoke up, explaining the situation to the police. "As for the monetary value of the damages, our Factory Director will need to calculate it."
Only then did the police officers look to the side at Xie Changning, who was inspecting the machinery.
They knew the chemical factory had a formidable young new director, but they had never met her before. Now, seeing her in person, only one thought came to mind—
