The other party’s identity was rather sensitive, so it was certain they had been hunted.
He Liuzhang’s investigation revealed that Yue Yihan had been on the run when he was separated from his family by traitors, which was how he went missing.
For all these years, his family had never given up searching for him.
He Liuzhang’s meaning was clear. He wanted Yue Yihan to get in touch with them to avoid any future regrets.
"They’ve already contacted our side and want to know what you think. If you agree, they’ll come to Chuncheng immediately to see you," He Liuzhang said, looking at Yue Yihan.
The look in his eyes told Yue Yihan that no matter what he decided, He Liuzhang would support him.
However, He Liuzhang still hoped he would meet his family.
"Do they know that I’m married?" Yue Yihan frowned, looking at He Liuzhang.
There was another reason he didn’t want to see his relatives: Xie Changning.
He and Xie Changning were already married. He didn’t know what the people from Beijing would think of Xie Changning, and he didn’t want the peaceful life they’d had, free of mother-in-law conflicts, to be shattered.
Hearing Yue Yihan say this, He Liuzhang finally understood. The crux of the matter was Xie Changning.
"They are aware of it. However, they have no intention of interfering with or commenting on your marriage. Their view is that as long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters. They won’t interfere."
What He Liuzhang didn’t say was that the people from Beijing already knew of Xie Changning.
After hearing that Xie Changning was Yue Yihan’s wife, their sentiment was that Yue Yihan had married up.
Given Xie Changning’s standing, she probably wouldn’t have married Yue Yihan if she hadn’t been facing difficulties at the time.
"Then... I need to go back and talk to my wife. Tell them to wait for my decision."
"Alright."
It was a well-known fact in the army that Yue Yihan was completely devoted to his wife. So, to He Liuzhang, the fact that he needed to go back and ask Xie Changning about this was entirely expected.
He Liuzhang didn’t object, but instead urged Yue Yihan to give a swift reply.

When Xie Changning got up, Yue Yihan was already waiting downstairs in his car.
"Have you eaten?" As soon as Xie Changning came downstairs, she saw the familiar jeep at the entrance of the guest house. She walked over and, sure enough, saw Yue Yihan inside the car.
He didn’t look well. Xie Changning tilted her head to study him and asked if he had eaten.
Yue Yihan shook his head.
"Let’s go together."
Yue Yihan nodded.
The two of them went to a breakfast stall to eat and then headed to Xie Changyi’s home. On the way, Xie Changning glanced at the unusually silent Yue Yihan and frowned slightly. "What’s wrong?"
’He looks so worried.’
Hearing Xie Changning ask about him, Yue Yihan’s eyes flickered. Then he asked her, "Would you mind having a mother-in-law?"
His words made Xie Changning freeze.
At first, she didn’t register what he meant. After a moment, it dawned on her. He was an orphan, so for a mother-in-law to suddenly appear could only mean one thing: his family had found him.
"To be honest, I’ve never had any experience with a mother-in-law before. The very idea of one is... well, complicated for me. But as long as she doesn’t live with us and doesn’t meddle in our lives, I wouldn’t mind."
What she hated were people who stirred up trouble in the family.
Yue Yihan understood what Xie Changning meant. Only then did he choose his words carefully and say, "The Brigade Commander said my parents are from Beijing. They want to come see me now, but I don’t know if I should meet them. What do you think?"
Xie Changning hadn’t expected Yue Yihan to put the question to her.
She looked at Yue Yihan and saw the anxiety in his eyes. It was then that Xie Changning understood: in Yue Yihan’s eyes, she was more important than anything else.
’It makes sense. Family he’s never lived with, just showing up out of the blue... of course Yue Yihan would feel a bit lost.’
"I don’t really have an opinion. It’s up to you and what you feel in your heart. If you want to see them, then see them. I won’t stop you, and I won’t get upset with you over it."
"That’s not what I meant..."
"I know, but they’re your relatives. You have to make this decision yourself." ’Otherwise, if any problems came up in the future, it would all be blamed on me. I’m not willing to make that choice.’
Xie Changning explained her reasoning to Yue Yihan.
Yue Yihan lowered his head. "You’re right, I wasn’t thinking it through. I’ll make the decision myself."
Xie Changning nodded.
"If they want to meet you, will you do it?"
Hearing his question, Xie Changning suddenly smiled. She looked at him with a helpless expression. "You don’t have to be so careful. For your sake, I’ll meet them. But, if they have a bad attitude, I won’t be polite either."
"Okay!"
Hearing Xie Changning’s reply, a huge smile spread across Yue Yihan’s face.
’As long as it doesn’t affect their relationship, it doesn’t matter what his wife does! If his wife has a bad attitude, it must be because the other side’s attitude was even worse. It’s all their fault!’
Without this mental burden, Yue Yihan’s expression relaxed considerably.
Seeing his expression, Xie Changning knew that the weight had been lifted from his heart, so she didn’t say any more on the subject.
They arrived downstairs at Xie Changyi’s place. Yue Yihan said to Xie Changning, "Should I wait for you downstairs, or—"
"I’m not going back today. You probably still have things to take care of, so you should head back to the base. Come pick me up from my sister’s place tonight."

After Xie Changning got out of the car, Yue Yihan turned around and drove away.
After watching Yue Yihan leave, Xie Changning went upstairs and knocked on Xie Changyi’s door.
"KNOCK KNOCK—"
"Coming!"
Xie Changyi opened the door and saw Xie Changning standing at the entrance. She glanced behind her. "Why didn’t you bring your husband up?"
"Oh, he’s pretty busy, so I didn’t have him come up. We can all have dinner together tonight," Xie Changning said to Xie Changyi.
Xie Changyi seemed to want to say more, but since Yue Yihan was already gone, it was too late. She could only let Xie Changning in. "I can tell he really likes you."
Xie Changning nodded.
"I can tell, too." ’Although, I only just realized it yesterday.’
Hearing Xie Changning’s words and seeing her expression, Xie Changyi knew her younger sister still hadn’t quite caught on. She didn’t press the matter. "Have you eaten?"
"I’ve eaten."
"Then wait for me. I haven’t eaten yet."
On Xie Changyi’s dining table were four dishes and a soup. She had clearly prepared a meal for Xie Changning.
Seeing the spread, Xie Changning felt she could eat a little more. So, she sat down without ceremony. "Thank you, Sister Xie~"
With that, she picked up a bowl and started serving herself some rice.
Xie Changyi shook her head with a helpless smile and also sat down at the table to eat.
After the meal, Xie Changning helped with the dishes.
Watching her sister help out, Xie Changyi asked, "Aren’t you curious about who our parents are? Aren’t you curious if there’s any news about them now?"
"Given their status, no news is the best news."
