Chapter 127 - 112: Luring, Capital and Farewell, Upgrading the Armor-Piercing Cannon
"What about Li Ran and the others? You’re the only one who escaped from the outpost fortress in the end?"
Having witnessed Lin Feng’s Flying Ability, Qin Hu no longer doubted his survival and grew concerned about the others’ whereabouts.
Lin Feng paused and looked back, asking,
"Do you want the truth or a lie?"
Qin Hu froze for a moment, confused, but he quickly understood and replied directly,
"The truth!"
Lin Feng shrugged.
"They all survived."
"Including the 201st recruit company you gave me. Every single one of them is an Awakener now, their combat strength rivaling that of the Thirteenth Division’s Awakened Camp. With my help, it was a piece of cake to fend off an assault from an army of over ten thousand Black Spine Zergs."
"Li Ran and his group are there too. The few veterans who survived on the main front also plan on leaving with me."
Hearing this news, Qin Hu let out a long sigh of relief.
"That’s good, that’s good..."
Then his expression changed, and he said gravely,
"From this day forward, the entire 201st company and its Commander were all killed in action while breaking out from the Zerg Race’s pursuit."
"The Thirteenth Division won’t bother you anymore. Tell Li Ran and the others that their families back home will be well taken care of."
Lin Feng nodded with a smile.
"Thank you."
Qin Hu then took a deep breath, hesitated for a moment, and revealed in a low voice,
"One last thing!"
"Soon, I’ll be dispatched to the Northern Capital to take part in its defense..."
"And according to the latest intel, the three satellite cities east of the Federal Capital have already fallen one after another. What’s more, eight or more Zerg Race Mother Empresses have assembled a Swarm of a million Zergs and are launching a pincer attack on the Capital."
"This will be the super-battle for the entire southern continent!"
"It will directly decide the future of the entire situation!"
"Once the Federal Capital falls, the entire continental defense line will be forced to retreat for hundreds of miles."
"Without the support of urban complexes, the vast plains offer no defensible terrain. The only option is to retreat and preserve our strength."
"Once the Thirteenth Division begins its retreat from Wu City, it will be disbanded and broken up into multiple regiment- and battalion-sized forces. They’ll head Northwest until they rendezvous at Hulao Pass."
"If you get the chance, I hope you’ll lend a hand along the way. Help save as many people as you can."
Lin Feng’s brow furrowed. ’Looks like the situation is even worse than I imagined. I thought the dry North would be better than the mountainous South...’
’I didn’t expect the Zerg Race to also know where the Federation’s center of power is, concentrating their forces to assault the Capital.’
’This might be the last time we ever see each other.’ Thinking this, Lin Feng stopped and turned back to promise,
"No problem. If I run into them, I’ll help them out. The more people I can save, the more strength I’ll have for my future counterattack against the Zerg Race."
"Your Genetic Fusion is an irreversible process. You’ll only sink deeper and deeper. Use it with caution..."
After the warning, Lin Feng glanced at the sky, unfolded a pair of Membrane Wings from his back, and slowly rose into the air with a beat of his wings, leaving behind a single phrase:
"Take care!"
He then turned into a black shadow and vanished into the South.
Watching the figure disappear into the distance, Qin Hu was overcome with emotion when he suddenly sensed a multitude of chaotic auras surging up from behind him. He couldn’t help but quicken his pace.
...
Two minutes later, after flying a dozen or so kilometers at a low altitude, Lin Feng successfully arrived at the temporary camp located at the Great Lake Service Area.
Fortunately, nothing had happened. All was well.
Only about half an hour had passed since he left.
’Flight Mode really is the most convenient. Flying in a straight line is so much faster than driving or running.’
There was no need for caution on the return trip. Lin Feng became a speeding afterimage, landing beside the Tank where he saw Chen Yanyan preparing lunch.
Seeing Lin Feng return safely, Chen Yanyan placed a hand on her chest and also let out a sigh of relief.
Lin Feng sat on the sofa, deactivated his Full Body Armor, and looked at the fully upgraded Lv. 21 Armor-Piercing Cannon in his hands:
[Armor-Piercing Cannon Lv. 21/29, Orange Quality]
[Upgrade Points: 3/3, Damage: 300, Effective Range: 10 km, Remaining Bullets: 7000/7000]
[Extra Attributes: Bullet Recovery 1/s, Spatial Magazine (7000 reserve ammo), Eye of the Death God 0/50, Firepower Coverage Damage 50+50/s, Covering Area 10,000 sq meters, Bullet Time 10s, Cooling 5 minutes]
[Note: The extra Spiritual Energy contained within this equipment can be absorbed during a synchronized Upgrade.]
Other than a direct 50-point increase in Damage, more reserve ammo, and a faster Bullet Time cooling, there were no other changes.
But now, wielding this, Lin Feng could directly threaten a Lv. 26 Tier Two Zerg Race, which was already quite impressive.
Then, Lin Feng’s gaze fell upon the note at the very bottom.
So, he scarfed down a large meal to get his body into its optimal state. Then, filled with anticipation, he lay down on the bed with the woman in his arms and began his own Upgrade...
As he touched the Lv. 21 Armor-Piercing Cannon by the bed, a powerful stream of Spiritual Energy merged with a warm current, flowing from the weapon’s body into his own.
The next second, Lin Feng’s spiritual consciousness arrived in a bleak and desolate world.
