Don't Burn Them! Even Witches Have Value!

Vol. 1 - Ch. 46 - The Shut-In Snake Girl

New Novel - Read Here

When the figure in the darkness fully emerged, Griffin's expression turned strange:

"Why is it you?"

"Yeah, why is it me……"

The sharp voice carried a lazy, drawn-out trailing tone.

And its owner was a dejected young girl with disheveled black hair hanging loose, dressed in a wide, baggy robe that might as well have been sleepwear.

Her skin, which should have been as white as snow, had become slightly rough from years of being too lazy to take care of herself, and a pair of deep, dark eye circles were set around her dark green snake eyes.

If not for her lower body being a winding black serpent's tail, no one would have thought her to be a member of the legendary treacherous and cold-blooded Snake Tribe.

"Mmph……"

She let out a yawn and slowly crawled over to Griffin's feet:

"Can't be helped……that old thing has been pressuring me the whole time……it's really so annoying……

So could I trouble you to die for a moment……that way I can go back to lying down……"

She lazily opened her mouth, revealing a slender forked tongue, as well as a pair of sharp venomous fangs.

"What an audacious request, but it really does suit your personality."

Griffin shook his head helplessly:

"But I can't die. I have to save her."

The moment he finished speaking, the rope that had seemed to firmly bind him suddenly came undone.

In the next instant, a sweeping kick charged with Battle Aura flew toward the sullen snake girl.

"This is why people who let their brains be ruled by love are such a hassle……"

Contrary to what anyone would have expected, despite appearing lazy, she dodged Griffin's sneak attack perfectly with the smallest possible turn of her head.

"I thought you were different from those people, but at your core, are you also a cold-blooded creature?"

Griffin stood up and looked down at the hunched snake girl from above.

"I'm just too annoyed to take it anymore……I really am different from them……restoring the kingdom and all that is such a pain……"

She raised the long sleeves that hung over her hands and swung them around listlessly:

"Looks like you've reached an agreement with that what's-his-name baron……

Well, it's too much trouble, too lazy to think about what specifically it is……

I'll just use my venom to torture it out of him in a bit……"

In truth, Lynn and Griffin had not reached any agreement.

Whether it was the antidote or the undoing of the ropes, both had been the former's unilateral decision.

Lynn had told Griffin that his employer would one hundred percent send someone to silence him.

But as for the latter, although he was well aware this was likely to happen, he had still held onto a sliver of hope.

He was so close— just three more tasks to complete, and she would be free.

By then, whether he himself lived or died wouldn't matter.

Unfortunately, this had ultimately been nothing more than wishful thinking.

At this moment, no matter how much he might hem and haw, one thing had become clear to him—

There was no longer any way for him to save her by continuing to serve them.

If that was the case, then there was only one path left.

Griffin took a deep breath. He flexed his fingers, and the hidden throwing knives concealed in his sleeve instantly snapped into his fingertips:

"Kill every last one of you, and then save her!"

The sharp blades coated in Battle Aura sliced through the air, flying straight at the snake girl simultaneously from multiple paths above and below.

In the cramped attic, she had nowhere left to dodge.

*Clang clang clang!*

Accompanied by the sound of metal clashing against metal, every throwing knife found its mark on her.

No.

To be more precise, the tip of her swinging tail had precisely struck every single throwing knife.

Protected by the hardest of scales and Battle Aura of a comparable level, Griffin's attack had not caused any damage whatsoever.

"Truly painful to watch……I thought only I couldn't be bothered to use my head……"

The snake girl raised both hands hidden beneath her sleeves and wearily propped up her slightly drowsy head:

"You should know full well……why those people would keep around a useless wretch who can barely move……

Really now, don't make me say so much……it's tiring……"

"Shut up!"

Griffin's throat bobbed, and then he flung out the throwing knives hidden in his other sleeve once more.

"Because she's a rope……just like my favorite bed……

When the thing you need to tie down is gone……there's no reason to keep the rope anymore……"

As though bringing up the bed had deepened her drowsiness, she let out a yawn:

"Mmph……she's dead……I watched her get dragged into that room by the old man……so she's definitely dead……"

The lazy words fell on Griffin's ears like a heavy hammer strike.

In an instant, he felt as though his ears were flooded with a clamorous roar of noise, and a wave of dizziness came with it.

His instincts had wanted to deny a certain fact, and so he had been avoiding thinking about this question all along.

If he was seen as a traitor, then what would happen to her?

And the answer was exactly as the other party had said.

"You've frozen up……wouldn't it be better to send you two to be reunited……too lazy to think about it, but probably, yeah……"

The tip of her tail, filled with terrifying power, suddenly shot out, aimed directly at Griffin's throat.

Good, looks like things are wrapping up on this end, then she'd just casually gather a bit of intelligence and make up the numbers on that secondary objective.

Just as she was thinking this, suddenly, a feeling of powerlessness swept through her entire body.

This was not the kind of looseness she felt from her habitual drowsiness.

It was the viscous, sticky sensation of her own extraordinary power being sealed away.

"Ah……where did my Battle Aura go……"

Her voice came out without any inflection.

Although the tip of her tail had indeed struck Griffin, because it had not been bolstered by Battle Aura, the latter had simply been knocked to the ground.

"Damn it, do you have any idea what you've done?"

Lynn's voice, like that of a vengeful spirit, came from the corridor behind the attic:

"I was wondering how I noticed a patch of wall that was far more damaged than yesterday, sure enough, something had snuck in!"

Lynn held up the Sealing Necklace and glared furiously at the intruder inside the attic door.

【Name: Liko Frostbite】

【Race: Demi-Human (Snake Tribe)】

【Talent: S-Rank Warrior】

【Battle Aura Level: D-Rank (Sealed)】

【Stamina: E-Rank】

【Physiological Indicators: For some reason, she is very sleepy】

【Favorability: 0 (……)】

Upon seeing the bizarrely unusual panel, Lynn was briefly stunned.

Why did an S-Rank demi-human warrior with only D-Rank Battle Aura have E-Rank stamina?

It was worth noting that, since he could currently only see the panels of individuals with extraordinary power, he had never seen a stamina rating below B-Rank.

Could it be because all Snake Tribe members were like this?

"Was that you……"

A pair of completely impassive snake eyes quietly looked over at Lynn.

"That's right, it was this great lord who did it, now hurry up and surrender, and then pay up!"

Lynn crossed his arms smugly.

At the same time, Elysia and the others had caught up as well:

"Why were you running on all fours faster than Iyanna?! You've worn me out!"

Although his own side had the numbers, Lynn still did not rashly move forward.

Because he could see that Griffin was lying on the ground in an unknown condition.

If the other party used him as a hostage, things would get slightly more troublesome.

Not good— he would have to deploy his earth-shattering brilliance.

Just as Lynn was rubbing his chin in deep thought, Liko looked at the crowd of people in the corridor, then looked at Griffin beside her.

Her figure suddenly moved.

And then she coiled up into a ball right where she stood.

"Mmph……did my best……can't be helped……I'm going to sleep first……

Could I trouble you all to wait until I'm asleep before killing me……"
