The Billionaire's Heir I Never Knew Was Mine

Chapter 207: Confidential

Their conversation continued for several more minutes until Scott finally glanced at the clock on the wall. Remembering the surgery he would have to perform flawlessly later that noon, he reluctantly stood.

"Alright, that’s enough catching up for now." He looked at Sienna with a friendly smile. "Sister-in-law, come with me. I need to remove the stitches from your arm."

Sienna nodded and stood.

Before following Scott, she looked at Zachary.

"Go ahead," Zachary said softly. "I’ll be right here waiting for you."

She smiled reassuringly before leaving the office with Scott.

The moment the door closed behind them, Kevin and Ethan looked at each other, and the same thought crossed both their minds.

Without wasting another second, they moved closer to Zachary.

"So," Kevin said with a grin that made his intentions obvious, "are you finally going to explain how you ended up marrying Sienna?"

Ethan folded his arms and nodded. "And while you’re at it, tell us why your two best friends didn’t even receive an invitation to your wedding." He said, his gaze narrowing at Zachary.

However, Zachary chose not to respond.

Kevin let out a long sigh before leaning back in his chair. He looked at Zachary thoughtfully, as though pieces of a puzzle were finally beginning to fit together.

"Zach, I just remembered something," he said. "A few days ago, we were on a business trip together. You suddenly left me there and flew back home without giving me much of an explanation."

His eyes narrowed as another realization struck him.

"Don’t tell me..." He pointed at Zachary. "You rushed back because of your wife?"

Zachary remained silent for a moment before letting out a quiet breath. Since the truth had already come out, there was no point hiding anything from his two best friends anymore.

"You’re right, Kev," he admitted calmly. "She was injured, so I came back immediately."

Kevin slowly nodded, finally understanding why Zachary had looked unusually distracted during the trip.

Before either of them could ask another question, Zachary turned his attention to Ethan.

"And no," he continued, "we haven’t had a wedding yet. We only registered our marriage."

The room instantly fell silent.

Kevin and Ethan stared at him with identical expressions. Their eyes widened, and neither of them even tried to hide their disbelief.

Completely unfazed by their reaction, Zachary reached into his pocket, took out his phone, and began checking the emails that had accumulated during the morning. His calm expression made it clear that, as far as he was concerned, the conversation was already over.

Kevin, however, had no intention of letting him off that easily.

"Man..." He shook his head in disbelief. "This doesn’t sound like you at all."

Zachary didn’t look up from his phone.

"I remember you saying you’d never get married because you already had a son," Kevin continued. "You sounded so certain back then."

Ethan nodded.

"Exactly. I thought the most surprising thing we’d ever hear was that you finally had a girlfriend." He looked at Zachary for a moment before adding with a laugh, "Instead, you skipped straight to being someone’s husband."

Kevin couldn’t help chuckling. "Man, you really don’t know how to do things one step at a time, do you?"

"I don’t see a problem," Zachary replied without lifting his eyes from the screen.

Kevin laughed. "Of course you don’t."

Then his smile slowly faded into genuine curiosity.

"What surprises me the most isn’t that you’re married," he admitted. "It’s that none of us knew you were even close to a woman. We never heard you mention dating anyone, let alone having a girlfriend. Then, out of nowhere, you introduce us to your wife."

Ethan folded his arms and nodded in agreement. "We’ve known you for years, Zach. Looking back now, there wasn’t a single clue."

Finally, Zachary looked up from his phone and met both of their gazes. His expression remained calm, but there was unmistakable warmth in his eyes when he spoke.

"Sienna is Skylar’s biological mother."

The words settled over the room like a heavy silence.

Kevin and Ethan simply stared at him, unable to process what they had just heard. Every assumption they had made over the past few minutes collapsed in an instant, replaced by an even greater shock.

Watching their stunned expressions, Zachary couldn’t help smiling faintly. He had expected exactly this reaction. Without saying another word, he lowered his gaze to his phone again. He continued reading his emails, leaving his two best friends to absorb the truth at their own pace.

...

Meanwhile, in the treatment room, Scott had just finished removing the stitches and checking Sienna’s wound one last time. Satisfied with the healing, he put away his medical instruments before looking at her with a reassuring smile.

"Don’t worry, Sister-in-law. The scar won’t be very noticeable. It will gradually fade over time."

Sienna looked down at her arm before gently smoothing the sleeve over it. She didn’t seem nearly as concerned as Scott had expected.

"No, I’m not really worried about the scar," she said as she stood from the examination chair. A thoughtful look crossed her face before she continued, "But I’ve been wondering about something else."

Scott looked at her curiously.

"I’m just curious," she continued, "Why did you deny recognizing me when I asked you before?"

Scott smiled faintly, already knowing what she was referring to.

"Sister-in-law," he began gently, "I think you already know about Skylar now, right?"

Sienna nodded.

"Yes. I know he’s my son." Her voice remained calm as she met Scott’s gaze. "I also remember everything now, including the day you interviewed me."

Scott’s smile faded slightly, replaced by a hint of guilt.

"I’m sorry," he said sincerely. "I couldn’t admit that I recognized you because I knew what your next question would be. You would have asked who the client was, and I couldn’t tell you. Not lawfully. That information was strictly confidential." He paused briefly before adding, "As a doctor, I’m legally and ethically bound and obligated to protect my patient’s privacy."

There was clear regret in his eyes. Although he had never intended to hurt Sienna, he had known keeping the truth from her would inevitably cause her pain.

Sienna understood the conflict he had faced. She smiled gently and shook her head.

"Scott, you don’t need to apologize." Her voice was warm and sincere. "I don’t blame you at all. I only wanted to understand why you kept it from me, and now I do."

Hearing that, Scott let out a quiet breath of relief. The tension he had been carrying eased from his shoulders.

"Thank you, Sister-in-law," he said with a grateful smile.

Sienna returned the smile before adjusting her sleeve again.

"Alright, I should get going now." She walked toward the door before turning back briefly. "See you later, Scott."

"See you later."
