Chapter 207 - 20 – Keqing’s Lie Backfires
"This is the Ministry of Civil Affairs. You need to be careful with how you address yourself."
"Use 'I' instead of 'one.' If someone overhears you, it could cause trouble."
"Just now, I felt as if Keqing noticed something was off," Zhongli said.
"Surely not. O— I didn't reveal anything strange," Mountain Shaper said.
"Perhaps I'm overthinking it." Zhongli glanced back toward the office.
"Zhongli-sensei, what exactly happened in there?"
"Just now, it sounded like she was speaking through gritted teeth," Mountain Shaper said.
"I'm not sure either." Zhongli shook his head and led Mountain Shaper back to his workstation.
Zhongli brewed a cup of tea. "I'll explain the work first. It mainly involves handling official documents…"
"So once the documents are handled, there is nothing else to do?" Mountain Shaper asked.
"Mm." Zhongli nodded.
"No wonder Zhongli-sensei was willing to work here. This job is rather easy."
Mountain Shaper lifted his teacup and took a sip. "But they truly send adeptal tea every seven days?"
"They do," Zhongli said.
"Good." Mountain Shaper relaxed.
Zhongli glanced at him and wondered what had happened back in the room.
Before long, footsteps sounded outside, and someone walked in.
It was Ningguang.
Ningguang entered Ryou's office and found Keqing sitting there, handling official documents.
"Ningguang, why are you here?" Keqing asked.
"Keqing, have you forgotten what you did yesterday?" Ningguang stared at her, furious.
If she had run into someone with bad intentions yesterday, she would have been in real danger.
The more Ningguang thought about it, the more she wanted to kill Keqing.
Yes, she had wanted to steal Keqing's husband, but did that mean Keqing had to throw her into someone else's bed?
"Did you two end up together?" Keqing asked, looking at her.
"Together, my head. This is far from over," Ningguang snapped.
Keqing looked at Ningguang and sneered. "Are you done? If you are, you can leave."
"You're not welcome here. Also, I'll have the Ministry staff move back to Feiyun Slope later."
"Move if you want. Do you think I want you staying here?"
Ningguang glared at Keqing. "I came to tell you that Yanfei reported this matter to Yuehai Pavilion."
"You schemed against a member of the Liyue Qixing. Starting now, you will be investigated."
"You are temporarily removed from your position as one of the Liyue Qixing. Zhongli will take over the Ministry of Civil Affairs until this is resolved."
Keqing looked at Ningguang. "Are you sure this isn't just you abusing your position for revenge?"
"Do you think I'm that kind of person?"
"If something had happened to me, I really would have killed you," Ningguang said coldly.
This woman was vicious.
If something had truly happened, Ningguang would not even know how to face Ryou afterward.
"Hmph." Keqing said nothing more.
"I heard you issued a citywide warrant first thing this morning?"
"From the look of it, someone must have stolen your husband last night."
Ningguang looked at Keqing. "You can't even guard your own husband. You're not much of a wife, are you?"
"You…" Keqing glared at her. "Ningguang, are you done? If you are, get out!"
"Do you think I wanted to see you? I didn't come here for you!"
Bang!
Keqing slammed the desk. "Ningguang, what is that supposed to mean?"
"I've had enough of you."
"Hmph. You can't even keep an eye on your own husband. What a failure."
Ningguang had barely finished speaking when a cup came flying at her.
She quickly dodged. "Have you lost your mind?"
"I have!" Keqing snapped.
"Keqing, you…"
Ningguang noticed the Ministry staff looking over and said, "If you have time to throw a tantrum at me, you should use it to find your husband."
The next second, something else came flying at her.
Ningguang dodged again and left at once.
Keqing took a deep breath and forced down her anger.
Even so, Ningguang's words made her blood boil.
Knock, knock, knock.
Someone knocked on the door.
"Come in," Keqing said.
Huixin carefully walked in from outside. "Keqing-sama, the Millelith just sent word."
"They searched every part of the city, but they still haven't found Ryou."
"Then keep searching. You must find him today!"
Keqing glanced at Huixin. "Go call Zhongli in."
A short while later, Zhongli walked in.
"Keqing, what happened?" Zhongli asked.
"Zhongli-sensei, Yuehai Pavilion will handle that matter separately."
"Yuehai Pavilion has arranged for you to temporarily take charge of the Ministry of Civil Affairs," Keqing said.
Zhongli immediately felt a headache coming on. He had no desire to take over a Qixing's duties.
"Keqing, I believe Huixin is quite capable. Perhaps…"
"No. This wasn't my decision. It came from Yuehai Pavilion."
"It's settled. Also, arrange for people to watch Ningguang day and night."
"This… very well. I'll arrange it later," Zhongli said, seeing that Keqing had already made up her mind.
Keqing watched Zhongli leave and shook her head.
Then she thought of what Ningguang had said, and anger rose again.
That woman was really trying to drive her mad.
Right now, Ningguang, Tabibito, Xiangling, and Shenhe were all eyeing her husband like predators.
It was too hard for Keqing to hold them all off by herself.
She had planned to drag Ganyu into this. She had almost succeeded too. She had only been one step away.
Then Shenhe had ruined everything with one blow.
"I'm so angry. Where did that woman take my husband?"
The more Keqing thought about it, the angrier she became.
Then she thought of Ganyu and felt a little helpless.
Yesterday had been so close.
Ganyu had gotten drunk yesterday, so maybe Keqing could trick her. She could make Ganyu believe something had happened between her and Ryou.
Keqing was isolated right now, with four tigresses watching from every side. She needed someone to help her.
Ganyu was perfect.
Keqing went to Ganyu's office.
When she arrived, Ganyu was sitting at her desk, rubbing her forehead. Official documents and a cup of tea sat beside her.
Knock, knock, knock.
Keqing knocked on the door.
"Come in," Ganyu said.
Keqing pushed the door open, entered Ganyu's office, and sat across from her.
"What's wrong?" Ganyu asked.
"Ganyu-nee!" Keqing called.
"Keqing, tell me what happened." Ganyu looked at her. "If I can help, I will."
"Mm… I'm sorry. I'm so sorry!" Keqing said, her face full of guilt.
Ganyu did not quite understand.
Shouldn't she be the one saying that to Keqing?
After all, she had stolen Keqing's husband. So why was Keqing apologizing to her instead?
"What happened?" Ganyu asked.
"Ganyu-nee, don't you remember what happened last night?" Keqing asked.
"Last night…"
Ganyu rubbed her forehead.
Last night, she had watched Ryou and Beidou drink straight from the bottle, yet neither of them went down.
She had drunk a little too, but at first, she had not felt drunk.
Near the end, however, a splitting headache had hit her. After that, she had no memory of what happened.
But hearing Keqing speak like this made Ganyu wonder if something had happened between her and Ryou.
"Keqing, I drank quite a lot last night. I don't remember many things."
"What do you mean when you say you're sorry?" Ganyu asked.
"This… it's hard for me to say." Keqing looked ashamed.
Seeing Ganyu so dazed, Keqing quietly relaxed.
Maybe she really could fool her.
If this worked, she would gain an ally. Then she and Ganyu could join forces and guard Ryou properly.
Keqing refused to believe Ningguang, Xiangling, Tabibito, and Shenhe would still find a chance to dig into her corner.
"Ganyu-nee, actually, besides the two of us, my husband was on that bed too."
Keqing carefully watched Ganyu's reaction. "Ganyu-nee, you and I are as close as sisters. I really wronged you."
"Yesterday, you and my husband…"
"I…"
Ganyu froze.
After she got drunk yesterday, had she really ended up with Ryou?
But why did she not feel anything?
Ganyu's mind went blank. She had no idea what had happened.
But Keqing looked so sincere and guilty that Ganyu could not help feeling nervous.
She had only gotten drunk. How had so much happened?
Ganyu looked at Keqing. "I… Keqing, you're not joking with me, are you? Ryou and I…"
"Ganyu-nee, something happened between you and my husband. I… I didn't want to hide it from you," Keqing said.
"If you're willing, I hope my husband marries you. That way, he can make it up to you!" Keqing looked utterly sincere.
"This… wait, this…"
Ganyu could barely process it.
In her own plan, this was supposed to happen the day after tomorrow or later.
Why had everything moved so far ahead?
And what exactly had happened last night?
Ganyu rubbed her head, but she could not remember anything.
She looked at Keqing. "Keqing, wasn't Ryou drunk yesterday? How could…"
"It was because he was drunk that…" Keqing gave a bitter smile.
Seeing Ganyu's reaction, Keqing felt much more at ease.
As long as she succeeded, she would have another helper.
And in a way, she was helping Ganyu too.
Keqing felt certain Ganyu had feelings for Ryou. If Keqing herself brought this up, it should be practically guaranteed.
Just as Keqing quietly breathed a sigh of relief, the door opened.
Then she heard a woman's voice.
"Ganyu, Keqing is clearly lying to you."
"Ryou disappeared last night. Keqing couldn't even keep him by her side."
"So how could anything possibly have happened between Ryou and you?"
Keqing clenched her fists, drew Splendor of Tranquil Waters, and shouted, "Ningguang, I'm going to kill you!"
