The Darkness System: Rise of the Broken Sovereign

Chapter 312: The Asura Eruption

Claudia’s hand closed around the Demonic Asura Lotus Flame, her serpentine eyes narrowing in triumph. Around her, over fifty cultivators from various factions watched with bated breath, their eyes filled with greed and awe. They had combined their mana to shatter the protective formation, trusting Claudia’s promise of negotiation. It was a fatal mistake.

The dark flame expanded. In a single heartbeat, it swelled from a fist-sized spark to a ten-meter inferno, becoming a living dark fire. The sudden heat wave hit the nearest cultivators like a physical battering ram, distorting the air with violent mirages.

"AGH!" Several were thrown backward, their skin blistering and peeling from the intense thermal radiation. Two Mana Heart Rank 9 cultivators from the Northern sector didn’t even have time to scream. Crackle. Their bodies were incinerated on the spot, turning to ash that scattered into the turbulent wind before their brains could even register the pain. They were simply erased from existence, leaving only floating embers where they once stood.

The Heavenly Flame was entirely sentient. The exact moment Claudia touched its outer barrier with the Shadow Vatican’s Soul-Sealing Jar, the flame detected the artifact and reacted with pure, ancient rage. It recognized the vessel meant to imprison it, and its wrath was absolute.

FWOOOSH!

A concentrated blast of dark fire erupted from its core. Claudia was launched backward—whoosh—her body ragdolling through the air before slamming into the far cavern wall with a sickening CRASH. Her body was burned—sizzle—the smell of charred flesh filling the air, but her Rank 8 Spirit Soul cultivation flared instinctively, creating a desperate barrier that kept her alive, though just barely.

The flame shifted, condensing its chaotic energy into a terrifying form. A dark bird. A dark phoenix of pure primordial fire. Its eyes were pools of endless, swallowing dark. It threw its head back and screamed—SHRIIIEEK—a soundwave of pure fire law that shattered the ground in a twenty-meter radius, sending cracks splintering across the cavern floor. The sonic force alone ruptured the eardrums of the weaker cultivators, sending them to their knees in agony. Blood trickled from their ears as the soundwave ripped through the cavern, shattering weapons and cracking defensive barriers.

The sub-realm itself began to transform, reacting violently to the flame’s awakening. The ground split open, revealing the molten crust beneath. FWOOOSH! Lava geysers erupted randomly from the deep fissures, spewing molten earth high into the air. The molten rock splashed against the cavern ceiling, creating a rain of fire that scorched everything it touched. Drawn by the flame’s sudden awakening, Fire Spirits swarmed from the cavern walls. Hundreds of them. Their power levels ranged wildly—from Late Mana Heart to Early Spirit Soul, with a few terrifying Mid Spirit Soul commanders leading the charge.

But the flame wasn’t done. It spawned its own elite guardians. Asura projections made of condensed flame energy began to emerge from the flame’s core. They were humanoid, three meters tall, with terrifying demonic features. Jagged horns, burning claws, and eyes of solid fire. They lunged out of the fire, attacking everyone in the cavern indiscriminately.

Chaos.

It was every cultivator for themselves. Alliances shattered instantly. The promised negotiation was forgotten the moment the first Asura projection tore a man in half, showering the area in burning blood. Michael Weston’s group fought desperately against the Fire Spirits, his Empyrean academy members coordinating their attacks. Gorff Draven’s group retreated, abandoning their offensive formations to focus purely on defense. The IGF cadets scattered like rats, screaming as the Asura projections cut through their ranks. A late Mana Heart cultivator from the Blood River Sect was impaled by an Asura’s burning claw, his body combusting instantly.

The Heavenly Phoenix turned its gaze toward the crowd. The flame expanded its will, creating a Domain Barrier. A massive dome of purple-black fire expanded outward, covering the entire cavern in seconds. The barrier sealed everyone inside. No one could leave. They were now blocked by a solid wall of sentient flame.

"We’re trapped!" someone screamed, their voice tinged with panic. A frantic Foundation Establishment cultivator threw a fireball at the barrier, but the attack was absorbed instantly, making the wall of flame grow denser.

Claudia, injured but alive, pulled herself from the cratered wall. She wasn’t deterred. She immediately tried to approach the flame again, the Soul-Sealing Jar still clutched in her good hand. She channeled her poison mana, a sickly green vapor that corroded the very air, attempting to corrode the flame’s barrier.

The flame retaliated instantly. A whip of purple-black fire lashed out, striking her with terrifying speed. She barely raised a Spirit Soul barrier in time, the impact sending her skidding backward, her feet carving trenches in the stone.

She pushed forward, getting close enough to thrust the jar toward the flame’s core. But the flame erupted again. The raw heat shattered the Soul-Sealing Jar instantly, the fragments melting before they hit the ground. Her arm was burned—blackened—despite her Rank 8 cultivation. The flame’s corrosive nature dissolved her poison mana on contact, negating her serpentine abilities entirely.

She retreated, hissing in pain, clutching her ruined arm. Her eyes were filled with venomous hatred, but she knew better than to push her luck a third time.

Michael Weston roared, his Aegis Avatar materializing around him. The twenty-meter golden knight fought through the Fire Spirits, his angel bloodline granting him natural fire resistance. He reached the barrier wall and threw a massive punch—BOOM—but the barrier held firm, rippling with dark fire but refusing to break.

Cassius Draven used his Spirit Soul Rank 2 power to carve a path through the Fire Spirits. He and Mira fought back-to-back, their movements sharp and desperate. Gorff and Kira Pyrebrand followed close behind them, using the Cassius and Mira as a shield.

Kael, however, didn’t fight the spirits.

He walked toward the flame’s core, directly toward the dark phoenix. The chaotic battlefield seemed to part around him, the combatants too busy fighting for their lives to notice his calm stride. He used Shadow Step, phasing through the Fire Spirits—they couldn’t touch what they couldn’t hit. To the onlookers, he appeared as a blur of darkness, slipping through the rampaging Asura projections like a ghost. His Tier 5 body absorbed the ambient heat, his golden aura shield deflecting the flame energy.

He reached the inner perimeter of the phoenix. The heat here was devastating, enough to reduce a standard Mana Heart cultivator to ash. Even with his Tier 5 physique, Kael felt his skin threatening to blister. Without breaking stride, he pulled out the Iceheart Fruit Yenna had given him and swallowed it whole. The Yin energy flooded his body, cooling him from within, creating a localized balance against the primordial heat.

The flame’s consciousness focused on him. It saw him as another insect trying to claim it. The phoenix concentrated its entire will into a terrifying spiritual pressure, slamming into Kael’s soul to crush him.

Kael’s soul bled. He coughed blood, the crimson liquid evaporating the moment it left his lips. The pressure was immense, a crushing weight that sought to flatten his very consciousness. It felt like mountains were being piled onto his mind, threatening to crack his Soul. But he stood his ground, his feet planted firmly on the cracked, molten earth. His will was a fortress.

He pulled out the Nirvana Devouring Script.

He forcibly tore open a gap in the flame’s consciousness using his Slaughter Intent, the cold, desolate will meeting the primordial malice of the Asura Flame.

Kael took a step forward, into the fire itself.
