Chapter 277: As Fate Would Have It, the Entire World Paves the Way for You
Yun Zhenyue had been worried sick about this problem.
A day had passed, and she still hadn’t come up with a solution.
Huang Ting advised her to hold back for now. There was no way to tamper with this mission without getting exposed immediately, which would ruin all their plans.
It wasn’t time to burn their bridges just yet.
Yun Zhenyue frowned, with no appetite for food, and wandered aimlessly around the factory.
The three hundred core employees had already assembled.
They were all on the first floor of the cafeteria, preparing to eat.
The meal had been approved by the higher-ups. It was a send-off feast hosted in Yun Zhenyue’s name. They wouldn’t have to pay; they could order whatever they wanted. It was a small bonus before the mission, meant to foster more loyalty toward Yun Zhenyue.
This indirectly showed something.
The president took this mission very seriously!
Otherwise, the factory would never spare a single cent for these low-level workers.
As Yun Zhenyue was wandering about...
She suddenly found herself in an unfamiliar area.
Standing at a corner,
a grease-stained door stood open.
Inside, she could see ghost chefs bustling with activity.
"Is this... the back door to the cafeteria?"
Yun Zhenyue came to her senses.
Through the crack in the door, she saw that platters of food were already prepared.
Two ghost chefs were taking a break by the door, smoking ghost cigarettes.
"Hey~ you still got any of that laxative? Give me some. My stomach is so bloated and uncomfortable,"
one of the ghost chefs said uncomfortably, rubbing his belly.
"Who told you to eat so much? You brought this on yourself," the other ghost chef, who was bald, said, rolling his eyes.
"Hehe~ Isn’t it because we have a lot of customers today? Nobody would notice if we helped ourselves to a little extra. What’s that saying again? A cook who doesn’t skim a little off the top is a cook who doesn’t prosper."
"Take it, take it. I’ve been constipated lately, so I stocked up on a bunch of laxatives. That son of a bitch Old Wang... I asked him to buy a little, and he brought me a huge bag. It’s enough to last me a whole year."
"The key is, this stuff is potent. Every time I take just a little, I’m stuck on the toilet for half the day!"
With a helpless expression, the bald ghost chef took a bag of laxatives from a nearby cabinet.
The first ghost chef took just a small amount, then casually placed the bag on a nearby table and teased, "I should remind you, you’d better watch out for Old Wang."
"Last time, I saw him sneak off to find your wife while you were on the toilet."
Hearing this, the bald ghost chef’s eyes went wide.
He couldn’t hold it in right then and there!
"Fucking hell, Old Wang! I was wondering why he’d give me so many laxatives for free for no reason!"
"He’s trying to cuck me while I’m stuck on the john?"
"That son of a bitch. You watch things here, I’m going to find him right now!"
His companion waved and followed after the bald chef. "I’ve gotta use the toilet, too. You go on, but get back quick."
And just like that, both ghost chefs coincidentally disappeared from Yun Zhenyue’s sight.
All that remained was the unnoticed bag of laxatives, left by itself on the nearby table.
For some reason,
Yun Zhenyue suddenly got a feeling.
It was just like the feeling she had last time when she was catching the field mice—that sense of mysterious guidance.
Her gaze fell upon the bag of laxatives.
A bizarre and somewhat twisted idea suddenly popped into her head.
’What if she secretly poured this bag of laxatives into the food...’
’Those three hundred core members probably wouldn’t be going anywhere.’
’Should I do it?’
Yun Zhenyue’s heart pounded in her chest.
’Isn’t this a little too devious?’
’No!’
’An undercover agent *has* to be devious!’
’But one person getting diarrhea is one thing. Three hundred people getting it all at once?’
’The factory would definitely suspect the cafeteria.’
’They might also suspect the food had gone bad.’
’But tracing it back to the source would take time.’
As she mulled it over,
Yun Zhenyue’s body acted faster than her mind.
She furtively hid the bag of laxatives in her pocket.
Just then, another ghost chef spotted Yun Zhenyue’s figure and jolted in surprise.
They all knew that a VIP was leading a team on a mission today.
’It must be her.’
"Ma’am, are you here to inspect the dishes we’ve prepared?" the head chef, wearing a tall hat, asked nervously. He suddenly noticed the open back door behind Yun Zhenyue, and that two of his cooks were missing.
In that moment,
he was viciously cursing those two ghost chefs in his mind!
’No wonder she came in through the back door!’
’She must have found out some cooks were slacking off.’
The ghost head chef’s heart hammered in his chest. He lowered his head, his expression grim.
"There’s no need to be nervous."
"I was just curious about what dishes you’ve all prepared."
Yun Zhenyue said casually.
Seeing that he wasn’t going to be held responsible, the ghost head chef breathed a sigh of relief.
He immediately began to personally introduce the dishes that were about to be served.
"We’ve followed the higher-ups’ requirements to the letter."
"Over here are the meat dishes: braised pork knuckle, sweet and sour tenderloin, and meatball soup."
"And over here are some vegetables..."
Yun Zhenyue wasn’t interested in any of these dishes.
She nodded. "You can get back to your work. I’ll help carry the dishes out."
"This—"
The ghost head chef was a bit hesitant.
’Letting such an important person help carry dishes?’
’That’s just outrageous.’
But seeing Yun Zhenyue’s insistence, seemingly out of care for her subordinates, he didn’t say anything more. He just told her to be careful as the soup was hot, and then went back to his work.
Yun Zhenyue scanned her surroundings.
When no one was looking,
she secretly poured half the bag of laxatives into the meatball soup.
It was in a large pot, the soup not yet portioned out into individual bowls.
Once the deed was done,
Yun Zhenyue whistled a little tune and placed the bag of laxatives back where she found it.
Finally, she pretended to pick up a platter of food and carried it out to the front.
After doing all this,
Yun Zhenyue’s palms were slightly sweaty.
For some reason,
everything seemed so coincidental.
Stumbling upon the cafeteria’s back door, stumbling upon the laxatives, the two ghost chefs happening to leave and giving her the chance to enter and take them... and then there was the meatball soup, with its strong aroma, perfect for masking the taste of the laxatives.
It all felt like the work of fate.
Just like her previous two missions.
But...
She wasn’t the Ghost World’s golden child, was she?
Why was she always this lucky?
Yun Zhenyue had her doubts.
’If that feeling was right, then nothing bad would happen to her this time either.’
’Let’s just see what happens next.’
...
Seeing Yun Zhenyue spike the food,
the Dragon Country audience was dumbfounded.
Not because the move was brilliant,
but because it was so easy to get caught!
Even if everything was perfectly set up for her,
and all she had to do was slip in the drug,
the factory’s top brass knew Yun Zhenyue didn’t want to do this mission. Then she just so happens to appear in the cafeteria, and afterward, three hundred core employees get diarrhea? The chain of evidence was too perfect!
There’d be no need for an investigation.
They could just arrest her on the spot!
[It’s over! What was Yun Zhenyue thinking?!]
[She would’ve been better off having the orphanage kids secretly help the Soul Inn.]
[Yeah, she just walked right into a trap of her own making.]
[I hope the laxative doesn’t work. Otherwise, suspicion will fall on Yun Zhenyue immediately.]
[Maybe she should just run for it?]
...
In contrast,
the foreign audience was gloating.
They were the ones who had previously accused Yun Zhenyue of betraying the other players and having ill intentions.
And now, they were the same ones calling her an idiot.
This scene playing out before them,
was exactly what the foreign audience wanted to see.
Yun Zhenyue sacrificing herself to benefit the other players.
[Hahaha, what a fool!]
[Spiking the food is so stupid. I suspect the president arranged for those two ghost chefs to be there.]
[I hope this laxative is a strong one.]
