Chapter 155: Flying Ship, Compound Wave Arrives

Riding the Golden serpent through the sky was exhilarating. The wind roaring, my cloak fluttering behind him, and the rush of heat in his veins.

There was no up or down; everything spun and moved in a blur.

Faust willed the serpent higher into the sky as the giant black bear turned its horns upwards and fired.

The magic cannon screamed like a jet engine. The crystal blue pillar of magic stretched into the air faster than Faust could move.

But on the serpent’s back, he was faster. He made it loop around the beam as the bear adjusted to catch them to mock it.

After five seconds, the beam stopped and the serpent streaked down like a bird of prey. Faust’s red axe was its talons, tearing a deep gash into the body of the monster.

He used Dark Maw to tear a giant chunk of the monster’s flesh. Blood splattered over the sandy beach and the monster roared.

As he returned to the sky, Faust turned back and cast a fireball that illuminated the sky like a second sun.

It smashed down on the Horned Bear boss with so much force a crater sunk in around it. The flames consumed it as it roared, but as it emerged, there wasn’t much damage.

Its defense was incredible.

The beast charged up another magic cannon, drawing energy from the Gate burning in a multitude of lights behind it.

As it was too slow, the Horned Bear boss remained close to the Gate and used it as an energy source for its attacks.

Nirvana acted quickly, ordering her undead summons to swarm the monster and deal as much damage as they could.

But their swords barely scratched the giant bear, which glanced down at them in disdain and then released a powerful roar.

Magic expanded like an explosion, blasting the skeletons into bone shards and the ghosts into dust.

Faust’s Wind Elemental summon sheared through the magic blast with a glow of effort and the wolf summon followed quickly—the archer firing arrows futilely at the monster.

The boss’s combat score was too ridiculous for any of them to help, so Faust dismissed them with a flare of light.

’Better they stay for if I want to use them later, rather than dying and then I have to wait twenty-four hours to resummon them.’

Faust rose higher into the air on the back of the serpent as the bear released another magic cannon from its horn.

The beam of light lit up the night and illuminated something rushing towards them in the distance.

A flying ship.

Faust blinked twice, then he saw the symbol of Compound Wave on it. A ship sailing the air like a jet? That had to be someone’s Schema.

The ship swam through the air as fast as a modern sailboat, but it was built like a giant pirate ship with a massive hull and great white sails.

The ship’s cannons turned and inside it were actually two people casting spells. Two of the cannons released their own beams of light that seared the Horned Bear’s flesh and pushed it back.

People dropped from the ship as it sunk low, just above buildings, floating down like spirits of war. Weapons shimmered into their hands and they rushed towards the boss.

Despite his interest in the flying ship, Faust immediately deadpanned as they drew attention to the city.

Because now the Horned Bear boss charged a beam to fire straight into the city.

Alarms went off on the ship as it swerved into the air, but the beam followed, cleaving through buildings. Stone and fire rained down, but the undead protected the civilians with the scrolls Faust had given Nirvana.

He swooped down with the Golden serpent under the boss’s jaw and rammed the flying serpent into it.

The impact was thunderous, diverting the head of the giant beast up and away from the city, although it tore a massive gash in the mountains and almost hit Compound Wave.

Whew. That was close.

Faust jumped off the serpent as it dissipated, landing on the huge arm of the monster before slashing at its joints.

If he couldn’t kill it in one blow, then he’d kill it in a thousand.

’Light Clones.’

Copies of him popped into existence with bright flashes of light and circled the beast, creating confusion as Faust unleashed slash after slash.

Severe Hit made sure the beast bled while he kept moving. The boss stomped around furiously, causing a local earthquake and crushing his light clones.

The other Vanguards from Compound Wave rushed in, unleashing their skills, but barely scratching the boss.

Faust drew most of the aggro so they were able to hit and retreat, but despair filled them as they were barely able to even hurt it.

"Damn it! We need an Olympic Knight! Level ten is too much!"

"Spells are barely damaging it and I’m running out of mana for my skills."

Faust groaned. "Idiots! It’s about to roar, clear out!"

He copied one of the Gold-rank reinforcement Schemas from one of the Vanguards as the boss absorbed mana from the swirling Gate behind it.

[Schema: Iron Wall (Gold)]

[Schema Abilities: Plant Your Feet, Rebound]

[Plant Your Feet (Iron): By standing in one place you increase your resistance to attacks by 100% briefly.]

[Rebound (Gold): 20% of damage endured is sent back at the enemy when taking a hit.]

’Could be useful,’ he thought, planting his feet as the Horned Bear’s roar sent a wave of mana that blasted everything away.

Sand and light swirled in the air around him, blinding Faust, but his already high resistance, doubled by the Gold-rank Schema, was enough to stay standing.

In the confusion and dust, the bear closed the distance. But Faust caught its sneak attack with Observe.

He jumped over a swiping paw and slashed its side using Dark Maw; blood poured as he continued moving, blurring from his extreme speed.

But eventually, a sharp turn while encircling the beast ran him straight into the path of the giant paw.

Faust immediately planted his feet, the attack not leaving enough room to dodge.

’Bolster!’

The hit made his vision go white for a moment as pain rushed through his bones. An echoing boom filled the air as he was blasted back...

Into the ocean.
