Con-man instructions on how to live as a Noble

Chapter 37 - Tradition of Viremont

"Legend says that the blood of Viremont was born from the ash of a fallen bird. Despite that, your symbol is that of a snake." Andile slowly said. "Strange right?"

Silas slowly nodded.

He often heard from an old mouth that snakes usually tried to eat the bird’s eggs. And the Viremont adored the symbol of such creatures despite them being born from the bird.

Such a strange family. Silas heard about his family’s legend but dismissed that in his mind. Whether the legend was true or not, it didn’t concern him.

After all, such a legend didn’t manifest in the game.

’But this is not a game. This is a breathing world.’ Silas reminded himself. Even though he knew that this was not a game, he couldn’t help but fall back into the same mindset.

’Think outside of the game.’

"And the symbol was probably born from tradition in your family practice. That is what scholars said and that is what I believed." Andile explained.

"The scholar said that the start of your family was rough. They forced their children to participate in challenges. Like a bird trying to teach its child how to fly. Die or fly."

"So that is why my family adored the snake symbol." Silas said, touching the symbol on his chest.

"Yeah. Over time, the tradition shifted. It was no longer just your family challenging the children. It is said that the change was because of civil affairs. Your family abandoned the old way and developed a new one."

"Let the complexity of life challenge the child. And of course, not all were forced to participate in the tradition. Only those without a goal were forced out into life with their name and had to fight on."

Andile smiled and snapped his fingers, remembering something. "If I give you an example, your father. Your father was thrown outside because he had no such goal."

Silas frowned. It was very unlikely that his father was like him. From his memories, his father carried himself with intent and worked very well for stability.

He loved his family and loved his state as well.

"I remember hearing the news of your father’s adventures." Andile said, reminiscing the past.

"About how your father built up the army from scratch just to get destroyed by the seventh circle knight. How he faced that knight with nothing but sheet will and won the battle?"

Silas squinted his eyes. The story was too extravagant to be true. And if he was correct, that seventh knight was supposed to be.

"The reason for the fight was my mother right?"

Andile nodded.

Silas let out a sigh. His grandfather didn’t approve of the marriage. He knew of this from his mother but never thought his father would be this bold.

Raising an army just to get his lover. It was insane. And during that time, he didn’t even have the support of Viremont.

His father was more incredible than he thought. After all, his grandfather was a demigod, someone who transcends human limits.

"Now, I know about my family’s tradition. They let the children experience life."

"Yes." Andile nodded. "And before you get taken into Viremont, I want you to join my family. This isn’t a joke. I really think you and I will reach the end goal. To get you inside, I am willing to offer you my child."

Silas flinched. He didn’t expect this kind of words from Andile but after giving it a thought, it made sense.

The man didn’t care about anyone other than his grandiose goal. He would even sacrifice himself for that. He had seen it, through the screen.

’This is getting difficult. All the advantages went to him. He held the power to kill me. He held the information about me killing the children. He held the knowledge about everything about me.’ Silas thought. ’I need to reject the offer but if I reject this, I won’t have to face this man again.’

Silas looked up from his daze and stared into Andile. For some reason, he saw the head of Floen, flinching for a brief second. It was quickly concealed by his enhanced sight enough to catch that.

’Reason unknown but he was scared of me. Why? For what? Did I possess what he was afraid of?’ Silas’s mind spiraled out of control.

Time was passing and he needed to choose.

He could escape here and fled to the Mountain, obtained treasure and followed his plan to get a luxury life.

He could. He really could.

’Choose. Choose. Choose. Choose.’

Silas opened his eyes.

Andile squinted his eyes with a frown.

"I don’t want to marry Kirth. She is rather crazy."

Andile relaxed his brows and tilted his head. "It seems that you are confused. I am not going to give you Kirth. That child is a gambling addict and was going to die with a knife on her back in the future."

Chilling words were spoken from Andile. What father speaks of his daughter that way?

"So who are you going to arrange me with?"

"My youngest." Andile smiled. "She is perfect for you. You will know when you meet her. Are you going to reject her? Think about the consequences."

Silas closed his eyes.

’What do I want?’ He asked himself a long time ago.

He wanted to be like that priest who saved him but the path he chose to become that kind of priest was filled with blood and tears.

’Am I going to choose that again?’

’Yeah.’

"I will marry her."

Andile smiled. "Alright, how long are you going to stay in this town?"

"I will leave on Wednesday." Silas answered. Today was Monday, probably around 2 am.

Silas guessed while looking out at the window.

"I see. I will send my daughter to you around Tuesday. She will accompany you on your journey. And I will announce your engagement to the world." Andile said and stood up.

"Enjoy the rest of the wine." He motioned and opened the door.

Before he left, he turned around and asked. "Are you not going to let go of your rage?"

"No. Never."

Andile sighed and left the room.

Silas looked at the blood wine and sighed. Why did he agree to marry? The reason was simple.

He got inspiration from his father’s crazy act.

To speak of war, you need reason. Without reason, the kingdom will interfere.

He came here tonight, looking for a reason to start the war.

If Andile displayed his act of killing those children then, Silas would rebuke and fight in the name of honor. He had information about the lighthouse so the kingdom would grant such a war.

Silas smiled. He will use his daughter to start a war.

The war between the two.

The war in the name of love just like his father.

Silas laughed and pushed the blood wine away, standing upright.

He walked toward the door, fixing his clothes.

As he was about to reach the handle, he paused.

"Who is his second daugther?" Silas asked himself. There were only three children shown in the game.

Is she dead by the time the game starts?

Silas scratched his head. "It is a problem, I have to deal with it."

For now, Silas needed to rest. The mana inside the core was running wild. He needed to refine the mana.

"I am going to lose my sleep."
