Chapter 73 - 72 Unable to Look Straight Ahead
Zhan Xiong spoke again, "Perhaps there’s a problem at King Hall. Maybe you should go back and take a look!"
Ye Fan replied, "Senior, don’t worry about that. Our partner in the Divine Land will definitely be King Hall. My purpose in coming out this time is simple: to tear it down and build it anew."
Zhan Xiong nodded gravely. It was clear to any discerning eye that King Hall had problems, and it seemed Ye Fan wanted to use this opportunity to completely remake it. Although Zhan Xiong didn’t know Ye Fan’s exact intentions, he understood that Ye Fan was playing a high-stakes game of chess, one aimed squarely at King Hall. He had absolute confidence in him.
"Alright," he said. "I’ve always believed in you!"
The two chatted for a while longer before Zhan Xiong departed. Ye Fan then dialed King Hall’s number. He said to the person in charge, "You’ve terminated the partnership in the Divine Land. I’m only going to say this once: if things aren’t back to how they were by tomorrow, I will personally come and take over."
Without offering any further explanation, he hung up. Afterward, Ye Fan sighed. The King Hall of the past was gone. All he could do now was force a complete reshuffle of the chaotic organization. If he didn’t, King Hall was doomed to be swept aside by the tides of time. Feeling heavy-hearted, he wandered the streets, his pace brisk.
Suddenly, he bumped into something. Looking down, he saw it was Chen Zihan.
Chen Zihan had just left the bookstore with a large stack of new books and was about to erupt in anger. Now, thanks to the collision, her books were scattered all over the ground. However, when she saw that the culprit was Ye Fan, her heart fluttered. It wasn’t a tremble of fear, but the unmistakable feeling of a crush. In that instant, all her irritation vanished, replaced by a bashful shyness.
"My apologies, Miss Chen," Ye Fan said awkwardly. "That was my fault. Here, let me help you."
"Thank you!" Chen Zihan replied gratefully.
They both hurried to pick up the books. Ye Fan, focused only on the task, reached for a book and his hand brushed against something soft. He looked down and saw he had touched Chen Zihan’s hand. Instantly, her face flushed red, and Ye Fan felt incredibly awkward.
This is so strange. I’m usually such an outgoing person, but I become so introverted in front of him. No, I absolutely can’t let him get the upper hand! Chen Zihan thought.
"Thanks!" she said, trying to regain her composure.
"You’re welcome!" Ye Fan replied. He gathered her books and said, "This is a heavy stack. Where do you live? I can help you carry them home."
"Oh, great! I live just across the street, on the fifteenth floor," she said. At this point, her awkwardness had faded, though she still felt she couldn’t match his confident demeanor.
However, it seemed this just wasn’t Chen Zihan’s day. After walking only a few steps, she tripped. It wasn’t a pothole, just a spot where a paving stone was missing, but it was enough to make her stumble and scrape her knee.
Ye Fan quickly helped her up. "Are you alright? Should we go to the hospital?"
"It’s nothing, just a small cut!" Chen Zihan insisted.
Ye Fan had no choice but to help her walk, which made the situation even more awkward for both of them. Given the injury was on her knee, the way he supported her could easily be misinterpreted by onlookers.
Society is so depraved... no, people’s minds are. There’s nothing I can do about it. If that’s what they want to think, I can’t exactly police their thoughts, can I? Ye Fan thought with a sigh.
They finally reached Chen Zihan’s home, a nice three-bedroom apartment in a high-rise building. The place was pleasant, with good lighting, but she lived there alone. Ye Fan helped her to the sofa before excusing himself to use the bathroom.
Left alone with him in the room, Chen Zihan suddenly felt a pang of fear and worry. What if he tries to do something to me? Should I resist or not? Shouldn’t my first thought be to call the police? But calling the police would be useless. I know he has influence over someone like Jason; he’s no simple man. Still... I don’t think he’s that kind of person. She shook her head vigorously, trying to banish all the wicked thoughts.
Ye Fan came out and asked, "Do you have a first-aid kit or anything like that?"
"Yes! It’s in the drawer!" Chen Zihan replied quickly. In this day and age, almost every household had a first-aid kit, and hers was no exception. "It’s in the second drawer," she added.
When Ye Fan opened the drawer, he froze. Inside, he saw a set of sex toys. He never would have expected Chen Zihan to be into this sort of thing.
Chen Zihan’s face instantly turned beet red. She knew this was a huge misunderstanding, but the toys really weren’t hers. She couldn’t bring herself to look at him. They belonged to her cousin, who had left them here for safekeeping because her husband was coming home. Of all the times for Ye Fan to find them, it had to be now. How could she possibly explain this?
"So, you’re into this kind of thing!" Ye Fan said with an awkward laugh.
Chen Zihan wanted to strangle him. "They’re not mine! They belong to my cousin. She was afraid her husband would get the wrong idea, so she left them with me for a bit!" It was impossible for her not to be mortified as she said this.
Ye Fan chuckled. "I get it, I get it. But there’s no need to be so secretive. It’s perfectly normal to have a set, right? You could give it a try! The effects are pretty good!"
"You!" Chen Zihan couldn’t believe he was teasing her about this. She was a whirlwind of anger and embarrassment.
"Just kidding! Don’t mind me, don’t mind me! HAHAHA!" Ye Fan said, quickly trying to smooth things over.
Who jokes about something like that? You can’t just make jokes about stuff like this, Chen Zihan cursed internally. After all, she was still an innocent girl.
Ye Fan pulled the first-aid kit from the second drawer and walked over to her. "This might hurt a bit," he said gently. "You’ll have to bear with me."
"Mhm!" Chen Zihan nodded, extending a long, fair leg. It wasn’t extraordinarily long, but it was still quite nice, especially considering she was about 1.7 meters tall, which was considered on the taller side in the Divine Land.
Ye Fan skillfully poured alcohol onto the wound. His movements were so practiced, he was truly an old hand—no, I mean an expert.
Chen Zihan let out a low cry of pain. In her agony, she reflexively reached out and grabbed a fistful of Ye Fan’s hair.
"HEY!" Ye Fan yelped. A fresh wave of misery washed over him. Why am I always the one who gets hurt? This is just tragic. All he could do was endure.
When the painful process was finally over, Ye Fan breathed a sigh of relief. Chen Zihan, realizing how rough she’d been, quickly apologized. "I’m so sorry! I didn’t do it on purpose!"
Oh, she didn’t do it on purpose, alright. She did it *with* purpose, Ye Fan thought wryly. But he wasn’t about to argue with a woman—a beautiful woman, at that.
"It’ll be fine once I get it bandaged up," he said instead.
He bent down to wrap the bandage. Chen Zihan’s skirt wasn’t very long, just enough to cover her upper thighs. Because she couldn’t bend her injured knee properly, her legs were slightly parted. At that moment, Ye Fan inadvertently caught a glimpse of something.
Feeling his gaze, Chen Zihan blushed deeply. Luckily, Ye Fan wasn’t that kind of pervert and quickly reined in his thoughts. Actually, he was exactly that kind of pervert; his handsome exterior was just deceiving.
"Pink!" he blurted out accidentally.
"You!" Chen Zihan was about to let him have it.
"Pink tape!" Ye Fan added quickly. "There’s nothing wrong with pink tape!"
He was lucky to be so quick-witted, or he definitely would have been dealt with by Chen Zihan today—though who would be "dealing with" whom was up for debate. But Ye Fan maintained that he wasn’t that kind of person.
Chen Zihan was incredibly embarrassed. I can’t believe I ran into such a huge hooligan today, she fumed internally. And what’s worse is that in front of this hooligan, I don’t even have the courage to get angry.
