Chapter 48 - 47 Directors Making Trouble
"Hmm?" Su Qingxue asked, not understanding.
"Because of the chairman’s death, several of the old shareholders are getting restless," Tang Yurou explained. "They want to scheme for more shares!"
Su Qingxue’s voice turned cold. "Those damn old geezers, making a move at a time like this... Don’t panic. I’ll go up and see what’s happening."
"Alright."
Ye Fan followed her up. He couldn’t just stand by and watch Su Qingxue get bullied.
When they arrived at the company, a meeting was already in progress. Xu Quan was the first to speak. "President Su, we are all deeply saddened by the chairman’s death. However, the company is at a critical stage of development, and you lack experience. Therefore, we plan to acquire some of the company’s shares to help you share the pressure." He was Xu Zun’s father and the second-largest shareholder in the company. With Su Jian Country around, he wouldn’t have dared to act so rashly, but now that Su Jian Country was dead, his true colors were revealed.
"That’s right! Mr. Xu is correct!"
"President Su, please consider it. The acquisition price we’re offering will certainly not be unfair to you."
It was clear they were trying to wrest away Su Qingxue’s shares. They were, without a doubt, a bunch of old foxes.
At this, Su Qingxue spoke coldly. "To all the elders present, when my father founded this company, he saw that his old classmates—all of you—were struggling, so he lent you a hand! He let you enjoy the fruits of his labor, and now that he’s gone, you’re ganging up on me? As for the shares, I still own sixty percent! The company’s decisions are still mine to make! Therefore, I will not be giving up a single share. You can forget about it!"
With that statement, Su Qingxue showed them no respect whatsoever.
Xu Quan spoke again. "Qingxue, your tone and attitude are inappropriate. Yes, it’s true, the chairman helped us all back then. We owe our current success to him."
"Yes, yes!" several people chimed in.
"However, without us, the chairman wouldn’t have been able to grow the company to this scale. Let’s just say that cancels things out. It would be difficult for you to survive this corporate war alone. So, Qingxue, you don’t have to answer us today. Give us your reply tomorrow."
The men got up and left, leaving Su Qingxue seething. They truly were a bunch of old foxes. They had her cornered; if she refused, the company would face a schism. This would be incredibly disadvantageous for the company right now, with no benefits whatsoever. But if she agreed, their scheme would succeed.
Just then, Ye Fan said, "I don’t know much about business, but it seems to me that you should just buy up all their shares."
"You’re right! Why didn’t I think of that?" Su Qingxue’s eyes lit up. She immediately saw the logic. Kicking these old foxes out was the perfect solution, but it seemed impossibly difficult. The main problem was funding. She explained, "While that would be the perfect solution, buying their shares to kick them out for good would require at least three billion in reserve funds. The company simply can’t produce that much capital."
This gave Su Qingxue a major headache. Three billion was no small sum.
After thinking for a moment, Ye Fan said, "You could get a loan from a bank."
"No bank would lend me that much money," Su Qingxue said, her head throbbing. "Besides, a loan like that requires collateral. We’ll have to find another way."
Ye Fan smiled. "Actually, I can help you."
"You can help me?" Although Su Qingxue didn’t know what Ye Fan did for a living overseas, three billion was not a small amount of money. So she just said, "Thank you for the sentiment."
"Hey, I’m serious! I really can help you!" Ye Fan was exasperated and utterly speechless. Why is it so hard to help someone?
"Forget it. No more talk. Come with me." Ye Fan grabbed Su Qingxue’s hand and hurriedly led her away.
As the car pulled away, Su Qingxue asked angrily, "What are you doing?"
"Helping you, of course," Ye Fan said with a chuckle. "We’re going to the Swiss Bank right now."
Su Qingxue felt a headache coming on, but with no better options, she went along with him. She was curious to see what trick he had up his sleeve.
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before Ye Fan brought her to a Swiss Bank. To her surprise, he hadn’t been lying.
Ye Fan took out the Heavenly King Token. "Take this to the bank’s general manager. When he sees this Token, he will absolutely grant you the loan, no questions asked."
Su Qingxue felt like she was dreaming. How could something this good possibly happen? This is three billion we’re talking about—an astronomical sum. Can this little token really be that powerful? Although the token had performed a miracle for her once before, she still found it hard to believe Ye Fan’s connections could be this extensive.
"We’re already at a dead end," Ye Fan said. "Just trust me this once."
Su Qingxue hesitated, afraid the security guards would think she was a lunatic and throw her out. But Ye Fan gave her a gentle push. "Go on!"
Su Qingxue wanted to snap at him, but she braced herself and walked forward, her steps undeniably awkward. After all, the whole situation felt like something out of the Heavenly Night Tales.
When she reached the entrance, a customer service representative approached her. "Hello, ma’am. Are you here to conduct some business?"
Su Qingxue shook her head.
"Then how may I help you?" the representative asked, puzzled. Su Qingxue certainly looked wealthy, but the representative couldn’t figure out her purpose. Then again, anyone who walked into a Swiss Bank was wealthy.
At this, Su Qingxue stated, "I need to see your general manager."
The representative replied immediately, "Ma’am, if you wish to conduct business, our lobby manager can assist you. The general manager is extremely busy." She assumed Su Qingxue was a major client, but even major clients couldn’t just meet the general manager.
Su Qingxue promptly held out the Heavenly King Token. "Give this to your general manager. I’m quite sure he will want to see me."
In truth, she had no real confidence. She had simply prepared for the worst. What’s the big deal? The worst that can happen is that this is all just a big practical joke. But if by some chance a miracle happens, I’ll have hit the jackpot. Having resigned herself to the worst possible outcome, her confidence surprisingly surged.
The representative was baffled but complied obediently. Although she also suspected it was a prank, there was something about Su Qingxue’s flustered state that made her feel this was no simple matter. So, she went straight upstairs.
The general manager, Edward, was in his office organizing files related to his ultra-high-net-worth clients. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. He hated being interrupted when he was busy, and he was certain it was a bank employee. He yanked open the door, just about to tell them not to disturb him.
The customer service representative spoke first. "Manager, a young lady wishes to see you!"
"I’m not seeing anyone!" Edward snapped. Countless people wanted to see him; if he met with every single one, he’d never get any work done. His refusal was blunt and final.
But the representative persisted. "She has something for you. She said that once you see it, you’ll definitely agree to meet her."
Edward’s irritation grew. Who has the audacity to joke with me like this? "The item?" he demanded.
The representative handed him the Heavenly King Token. As Edward examined it, his expression turned to one of utter shock. At that moment, his eyes revealed his astonishment. The representative was dumbfounded; she had never expected to see such a look on her boss’s face. It was completely beyond her expectations.
Edward exclaimed excitedly, "Quickly, show her in! Please!"
"Yes, sir!" Confused but obedient, the representative hurried back downstairs to get Su Qingxue.
Edward was still reeling. I almost offended someone I absolutely cannot afford to cross. Just the thought of it makes my heart pound.
Down in the lobby, Su Qingxue felt terribly awkward. Everyone else there for business was staring at her strangely. She was on the verge of fleeing, convinced Ye Fan had played her for a fool.
Just then, however, the representative returned. "Our general manager will see you now," she said to Su Qingxue.
"What?"
Su Qingxue was stunned. She never imagined it would actually work. That a single, worn-looking token held such incredible power was almost too much to believe. It was impossible for her not to be thrilled.
