Chapter 30 - 29: Hitting the Iron Plate
From his conversation with Luo Yazhi, Ye Fan grew more vigilant. It seemed many factions were now aware of his return to the Divine Land.
Since they already knew, there was no point in hiding. He wasn’t afraid of anyone—that was the pride of the King of Heaven.
When Ye Fan got back to the company, Su Qingxue was coming down from upstairs. He immediately went to meet her.
"Where did you go last night?" Su Qingxue asked.
He replied awkwardly, unable to gauge her mood. "Uh, I didn’t really go anywhere. I just stayed at a hotel for the night!"
Su Qingxue leaned in close, but detecting no hint of another woman’s perfume, she held her temper. Of course, Ye Fan had come prepared; he wouldn’t have let her discover anything.
Then, Su Qingxue said, "Come with me to collect a debt."
"Collect a debt?" Ye Fan asked.
"Yes," Su Qingxue explained. "The Dongjiang Company owes us a significant sum, but they keep stalling. Now, they’ve stopped answering our calls entirely. I plan to go there in person. We have to get that money back."
"Okay, leave it to me," Ye Fan said.
Getting Su Qingxue’s forgiveness wouldn’t be easy. I have to seize this opportunity, or I’ll really end up homeless. For the dignified King of Heaven to be reduced to this... it’s a new low.
Upon arriving at the Dongjiang Company, Su Qingxue said, "This is the place."
Ye Fan took one look and sensed this company was trouble. They were definitely planning to swindle Su Qingxue out of her money.
They entered the run-down, filthy, and practically deserted building. After some searching, they found the office. Inside, several men and women were gathered on the first floor, playing mahjong.
When they saw Ye Fan and Su Qingxue, they stopped their game, and one of them asked rudely, "What do you want?"
Su Qingxue announced, "I’m Su Qingxue, the head of the Su Family Business. I’m here to see your boss, Mr. Wang. He owes my company a large sum of money and has delayed payment repeatedly. Now, he’s completely unreachable."
"So, you’re debt collectors!" the Bald Man sneered, his eyes leering at Su Qingxue.
Ye Fan stepped in front of Su Qingxue, shielding her. He shot the man a fierce glare, and the man was instantly shocked by the sheer intensity of his aura. However, with their numerical advantage, the group wasn’t overly intimidated.
The Bald Man said, "Wait here. I’ll go notify Mr. Wang."
Su Qingxue found the atmosphere repulsive. If Ye Fan hadn’t been with her, she would never have come to such a place.
A short while later, the Bald Man returned. "Our Mr. Wang is waiting for you on the second floor! Let’s go!"
Ye Fan took Su Qingxue’s hand and led her upstairs, with the men following close behind.
They reached the second floor and opened the office door. Inside, they found three men playing cards. Two of them were covered in tattoos, and the third, a fat and bloated man, was Wang Jian—the person in charge of the Dongjiang Company.
As Ye Fan and Su Qingxue entered, all three men fixed their greedy gazes on her.
Su Qingxue said immediately, "Mr. Wang, I’m Su Qingxue. Your company owes mine ten million. Payment was due in January, but it’s June now. Isn’t it time you settled the debt?"
Wang Jian suddenly slammed his hand on the table, and the two tattooed men stood up. This startled Su Qingxue, but with Ye Fan by her side, she wasn’t too frightened. She knew he was very capable.
Wang Jian scoffed, "President Su, does a business as large as yours really care about a mere ten million?"
"This isn’t about the amount; it’s about credibility!" Su Qingxue asserted.
"Hahaha, you want to talk to us about credibility?" Wang Jian laughed. "I’ll be honest with you. We have no intention of paying this debt, especially since we never went through legal channels. Get out now if you know what’s good for you. If not... heh heh heh." Wang Jian continued to leer at her.
Su Qingxue was thoroughly disgusted.
Ye Fan spoke up, his voice cold. "Paying what you owe is just common decency. Our company trusted you and lent you the money. Not only are you ungrateful, but you’re planning to steal it!"
"What money? Boys, do we owe them anything?" Wang Jian asked, feigning ignorance.
"No! Our company never defaults on its debts!"
"That’s right! They’re trying to slander our company!"
Wang Jian spread his hands. "You hear that?"
Su Qingxue was furious, but Ye Fan gave her a reassuring look. He stepped forward and confronted Wang Jian. "So you’re planning on just ripping us off?"
"And what if we are?" Wang Jian replied arrogantly. "I gave you a chance to leave, but you didn’t take it. Now you can’t leave even if you want to."
The Bald Man and his cronies blocked the office door while Wang Jian’s two subordinates advanced menacingly. Wang Jian had long coveted Su Qingxue. He knew that crossing the Su family was unwise, but he was beyond caring now. He figured he could always take his assets and leave Jiangning City, since he was nearing the end of his rope there anyway.
Ye Fan declared, "So you want to play dirty? I’ll show you what real dirty is!"
He suddenly threw a punch. With a sickening CRACK, his fist dislocated Wang Jian’s jaw. Wang Jian immediately clutched his face, howling in pain.
Seeing their boss injured, his men charged at Ye Fan. Su Qingxue quickly moved to a corner to avoid being caught in the crossfire.
Just as two of Wang Jian’s thugs rushed him, Ye Fan dispatched each with a single kick.
CRACK! CRACK!
Both men crumpled to their knees, howling. It was the Bone-breaking Hand technique!
When the Bald Man and the others rushed over, they were terrified by the scene. However, Ye Fan had no intention of sparing them. With one hand, he grabbed the Bald Man and hurled him out the window. He plummeted from the second floor. The remaining two quickly shared a similar fate.
Wang Jian couldn’t believe his men were so useless. He had truly picked a fight with the wrong person. In a desperate move, he charged forward, hoping for a sneak attack.
Unfortunately, he had severely underestimated Ye Fan.
Ye Fan grabbed him by the collar, and Wang Jian immediately started to tremble, shocked by Ye Fan’s strength. He could feel his feet lift completely off the ground.
Then, Ye Fan slammed him down onto a chair. It instantly collapsed, trapping Wang Jian in the wreckage, too terrified to speak. Just as Ye Fan was about to continue, he glanced at Su Qingxue and saw the fear on her face.
"The next part is going to get violent," he said, turning to her. "A lady like you shouldn’t watch. Go outside and wait for me."
"Okay, okay!" Su Qingxue stammered, though she still supported him.
Ye Fan planted a foot on the ruined chair. "Now," he said to Wang Jian, "we can have some real fun."
"Let’s talk this through!" Wang Jian trembled.
"We’re done talking," Ye Fan snarled, slapping Wang Jian so hard across the face that a tooth flew out. Overcome with pain, Wang Jian opened his mouth to scream, but he choked it back when he saw Ye Fan raise his hand for another slap. He was terrified Ye Fan would strike him again.
Ye Fan felt his hand was greasy from the slap, and he was disgusted. He said to Wang Jian, "Hand over the ten million, and we can talk. If you don’t, I’ll show you the meaning of despair!"
Tears streamed down Wang Jian’s face. He never expected to run into such a ruthless powerhouse. With a sob, he pleaded, "Sir, please, just help me up. I’ll write you the check!"
"Fine!"
Ye Fan stomped on the broken chair, which shattered completely. Wang Jian fell flat on his backside, a searing pain shooting through him. But he knew there was something far worse than pain: death. Nothing was more terrifying. Shaking, he wrote out the check and handed it to Ye Fan respectfully.
"If this check is fake, Laozi will take your life!" Ye Fan warned.
"Sir, it’s absolutely real! I wouldn’t dare write a fake one!" Wang Jian wailed. Facing a man who was like the Death God himself, how could he dare to pull any tricks? That would be a death wish.
Ye Fan came out, waggling the check at Su Qingxue. "Done!"
"Give it to me!" Su Qingxue snatched it from his hand.
"Look, I got your money back for you," Ye Fan said immediately. "Don’t you think... you know... a little commission wouldn’t be out of line?"
"Dream on! But I can give you a chance to go on a date with me," Su Qingxue said with a smile.
Who the hell wants a date? Laozi needs cash! Money is what matters, and I’m dirt poor right now. Can’t you offer something practical?!
Outwardly, however, he dared not refuse. Doing so would surely lead to a miserable fate. So, Ye Fan grinned and said, "A date with a beauty like you? I couldn’t ask for more!"
"Hmph! Such a sweet talker!" Su Qingxue said, walking ahead.
Ye Fan shamelessly hurried after her. "How could you say that? Every word I said came straight from the heart!"
Back at the company, Ye Fan waited downstairs for Su Qingxue. As she came down, a man in a convertible sports car pulled up. Holding a large bouquet of roses, he approached Su Qingxue and said, "President Su, please give me a chance to pursue you!"
This left Su Qingxue at a loss. The other women leaving work looked on with envy, infatuated and wishing they were in her place.
This was no ordinary man. He was handsome, debonair, and the quintessential tall, rich, and handsome man: Xu Zun.
Known as Mr. Xu, his father was the second-largest shareholder of the Su Family Business, and Xu Zun himself was a senior president in the company. He was a notorious playboy, known for his ambiguous relationships with many female employees, but his wealth made him desirable.
Xu Zun had clearly come prepared. If he could win over Su Qingxue, he might one day be able to supplant the Su family and become the company’s majority shareholder. Before, Shen Zhe had stood in his way, but with the Shen Family now fallen, his opportunity had finally arrived.
