Chapter 27 - 26: Enemies on a Narrow Road
Ye Fan, who was standing to the side, was horrified. He had a sinking feeling. Not only did these two women know each other, but judging by their posture, they were likely old rivals. He had no idea how to explain the situation and was now utterly doomed, unsure of which side to take.
However, the two women didn’t see it that way. In their eyes, the man they’d both taken an interest in was now involved with their old rival. Instantly, the temperature seemed to drop by several degrees.
At that moment, Su Qingxue spoke. "What a coincidence. It’s you."
"I didn’t expect it to be you, either. Enemies truly are fated to cross paths," Fang Nan replied with disdain.
"So, you two know each other?" Ye Fan said with a strained laugh.
"Get lost!" the two commanding beauties snapped in perfect unison.
Ye Fan was displeased. If this were the South America Battlefield, I’d make them beg for mercy. But here and now, both women were ticking time bombs he dared not provoke. Still, he couldn’t just leave. What if they actually started fighting? With that thought, Ye Fan could only stare at them intently, prepared to call the police if things got out of hand—even though Fang Nan was an officer herself.
At this point, Su Qingxue seized the initiative. "He is my fiancé, Ye Fan," she stated coldly. "We’ve already been intimate, and I don’t want any other woman getting close to him. Especially you. Understand?"
Hearing this, Fang Nan’s heart sank. She felt a sharp pang in her chest, and for a moment, it was hard to breathe. The news was a devastating blow. However, Fang Nan wasn’t ready to concede. She turned to Ye Fan, demanding angrily, "Is what she said true?"
"No, absolutely not! I’ve kept myself pure, I swear!" Ye Fan explained frantically.
Fang Nan shot him a look so furious that if looks could kill, he would have died ten thousand times over. What Fang Nan didn’t realize was that Su Qingxue was Ye Fan’s boss.
Su Qingxue sneered, "He already said he has nothing to do with you, so why are you still here? Aren’t you ashamed of yourself, making a scene in broad daylight?"
An argument between two gorgeous women in the middle of the street instantly attracted a crowd of onlookers. Of course, the onlookers were filled with jealousy, especially when they saw a man as unremarkable as Ye Fan with two such beautiful women. It seemed like a criminal waste of heavenly gifts. Every man in the crowd lamented the unfairness of the heavens, wondering why such good fortune never happened to them.
Ye Fan felt utterly helpless. The atmosphere between the two women had grown so icy they looked ready to start throwing punches. This couldn’t happen! Swallowing his pride, Ye Fan stepped in to break them up. But the women had already grabbed each other’s clothes, their hands ready to unleash the legendary Nine Yin White Bone Claw—a woman’s most vicious attack. It took a great deal of effort for Ye Fan to finally pull them apart.
By now, the two beautiful women were a complete mess, their hair disheveled and their graceful images shattered. After a moment to compose herself, Su Qingxue, her face flushed with anger, demanded, "Ye Fan, are you coming with me or not?"
"Yes, yes, of course," Ye Fan quickly replied.
But Fang Nan immediately countered, "If you go with her, I’ll never forgive you!"
Ye Fan suddenly felt dizzy. He could only squat on the ground in defeat, ignoring them both. There was no way out. Choosing either side was a death sentence, so it was better to just stay put and let them sort it out. The two women paid him no more mind. After one last exchange of angry words, they each got into their cars and sped away, leaving Ye Fan alone and looking pathetic under the scorching summer sun.
The crowd pointed and muttered, calling him a two-timing scoundrel. Left with no choice, Ye Fan slunk away.
Things only got worse that afternoon. Because he hadn’t taken her side, an enraged Su Qingxue locked him out of the house. To think that I, a proud and dignified man, am now homeless. Ye Fan thought, a wave of misery washing over him.
Depressed, Ye Fan headed to a luxurious nearby nightclub. All he wanted was to drink himself into a stupor and forget his troubles. As soon as he walked in, he told the bartender, "Bring me your strongest stuff!"
Back in the day, Ye Fan could drink liquor like water. Even the most potent spirit this club had to offer would be barely enough to wet his throat. He had only taken a few sips when a glamorous, seductive woman leaned over his table. He looked up and was startled to see it was the Charming Fox Demoness, Luo Yazhi!
Instantly, Ye Fan’s eyebrows shot up. "Why are you here?" he asked warily. "Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you?"
"Why would I be afraid? To die at the hands of the King of Heaven would be an honor," Luo Yazhi purred, sticking out the tip of her tongue in a coquettish gesture. "To share a few drinks with the King of Heaven first would be an even greater one."
The alluring fragrance wafting from the bombshell opposite him softened Ye Fan’s resolve for a moment, but his voice remained cold. "What are you scheming this time? My patience has its limits. Don’t think for a second I wouldn’t kill you." The fact that Luo Yazhi can always find me means she has a very sophisticated intelligence network in Jiangning. Still, she’s just a mere Charming Fox Demoness. Nothing to fear.
At this point, Luo Yazhi leaned in. "Darling, I truly don’t have any ulterior motives. Do you believe me?"
"No," Ye Fan replied without hesitation, though his eyes were glued to her ample, snow-white chest.
Noticing his stare, Luo Yazhi leaned forward slightly, deliberately revealing her impossibly deep cleavage. Ye Fan quickly averted his gaze.
Luo Yazhi smiled seductively. "Do you like what you see, King of Heaven?"
"It’s nice—cough, cough! Stop talking nonsense!" Ye Fan snapped.
Luo Yazhi didn’t seem offended in the slightest. She took a delicate sip of her red wine and said, "I heard all about what happened today. Two magnificent beauties fighting over you. You have quite the luck with women, King of Heaven."
"Are you here just to laugh at me?" Ye Fan shot back, his irritation flaring up at the mere mention of the incident.
Luo Yazhi laughed. "Of course not. Who in this world would dare mock the King of Heaven? They’d have to have a death wish. Still, since you seem to like both of those beauties, why not just take them both? With your power, it shouldn’t be too difficult, right?"
Ye Fan shook his head with a laugh. "I’m not that kind of guy. I’m a man of pure intentions."
Pure intentions? Your eyes haven’t left my chest since I sat down, and you have the nerve to call yourself pure? Luo Yazhi sneered inwardly.
"Don’t be angry, King of Heaven. Here, let me have a few drinks with you," Luo Yazhi said, picking up the bottle of red wine and pouring them both a glass.
They chatted and laughed as they drank late into the night. Eventually, Ye Fan seemed quite drunk. "Lemme tell you," he slurred, "I was a regular love saint back on the South America Battlefield. Can’t help it... My charm’s just too powerful!"
With that, Ye Fan slumped forward, passed out on the table.
Luo Yazhi smiled. "King of Heaven? Shall we have another?"
There was no response.
Luo Yazhi’s expression changed in an instant. Her beautiful purple eyes glinted with a cold, sharp light. She picked up the red wine bottle and slowly poured its contents onto the floor. "So what if you’re the King of Heaven?" she said, her voice dripping with ice. "You still fell into a woman’s trap. After all, I am the Charming Fox Demoness. No man on earth can resist my allure!"
