Code Golden: Gundam War

Chapter 281 - 23: Change in Status Quo

"By Emperor's balls! T-T-That's a fucking shadow!" Vido panicked as he watched, via cameras, a menace walk through and kill everything in its path.

"Shadow? You mean the Shadow? From the Imperial Department of Intelligence? The Empress Mei's soldiers?" The Blue Sun troopers looked utterly terrified after realising what was inside their ships!

"B-Boss-Boss-Boss p-p-please help!" Over the comms, a trooper was begging as he was trying to survive, but the blue beams were literally deflected with casual effort by the shadow, who was simply walking towards the trooper with a beam sword in hand.

"Fuck this… we have no choice. That thing is in our old ship. We can simply leave that ship behind." Vido said with a strained look.

'If Shadows are here, then we need to run as far away as possible. Not one or two clusters behind but at least three or four.' Vido realised how serious the Empire is if Shadows are running around. These things are only deployed if it's directly related to Imperial business. Not something as minor as them.

Funny how Vido still thinks he is a minor thing when the entire galaxy knows that they did. Brought shame to the Empire's name; that is a death sentence.

"Quick! Disconnect it! We are leaving!" Vido barked orders. They will lose some men, but at least his Asari toys are with him. They are just far too useful with their biotics.

"Roger…" The troopers didn't look that happy, but at least they could keep their lives and freedom.

With that said, the connection was severed, and the turian cruisers started to leave.

~~~
Shadow Three broke the neck of an Imperial renegade when it noticed that the turian cruiser started to move away.
"Proceed with Plan B," Shadow Three said via comms.
"Proceeding with Plan B. This move has been foreseen."
"Tracking beacon has been deployed."
Shadows always work in teams of three. One is a close-range fighter, the second is a saboteur, and the last one is an assassin with an anti-matter sniper rifle. Though when need be, they can work as simple eliminators, like now.
Dealing with people who use primitive technology and are in confined spaces, like a cruiser of Turian origin.
"G-Get away from me!" Imperial renegade who watched his buddy choke to death tried to blast the shadow that looked at the disappearing Turian ship.
"You brought shame to the Empire. Why do you think you have the right to continue living, scum?" The shadow turned and faced the renegade that was shaking like a leaf.
"Fuck you! No one tells me how I live!" The Blue Sun opened fire. But the Shadow simply raised its hand, and the beam stopped midway.
"...W-What the fuck…" The Trooper looked utterly baffled by the magic it was looking at.
"That is what a delusional dead man would say. Rejoice, you will meet your dead friends in Collective Unconsciousness.
Empire doesn't need trash that can't assist in our grand vision of galactic domination."
The beam went in reverse and slammed into the Blue Sun trooper, killing him instantly.
"Ship is secure. We found some Asari that are unconscious; preliminary scans show heavy quantum brainwave damage."
"Same here."
Shadows reported their findings while Shadow Three kept purging more Blue Sun troopers that were left behind.
Eventually the ship was secured, and the Shadows sent a message to the fleet.
Around two hours later, the White Unicorn, with a Turian fleet, arrived.
Followed by Asari medical ships.
"...What happened here?" Asari inspected the dead Imperials. They had burn marks, and some had broken necks, like someone crushed their windpipes!
"...Someone killed them from inside the ship. It's like they tried to keep someone out."
The Asari and Turian looked at some of the doors that were cut open with something burning.
"...do you know?" The Turian and Asari looked at the Imperial who was silently working on packing Imperial bodies.
"...You didn't hear it from me, but." The Imperial looked around before explaining. "It was a squad of shadows."
"...shadows?"
"The Imperial Department of Intelligence. They are our STG." The Imperial clarified.
"...Oh…" The Turian and Asari looked surprised. But then they nodded. It makes sense that the Empire has someone like that.
"I heard from officers aboard White Unicorn that Prince Trajan got one to serve him. It's not easy even for Princes or Princesses to get them to serve outside the Imperial Department of Intelligence."
The Imperial whispered, funny enough that regardless of species, gossiping is something everyone does, and since it's gossiping, it doesn't mean that it's true.
Prince Trajan was just the first one to have Shadow squad help in a mission like this.
So it left quite an impression on the regulars who had only heard rumours about these mysterious, shadowy agents.
As the clean-up was happening in the left-behind Turian ships aboard the White Unicorn, Trajan was having a meeting with the Captains of other vessels.
"Anything?" The Prince asked; he was getting frustrated.
"Sadly, the trail goes cold after they leave Invictus."
"My Shadows have tagged their ships. However, the beacons only work so far. We need to be in the vicinity." Trajan sighed.
Unlike Eclipse or the Blood Pack, these Blue Suns are Imperial-led, and while they are a new organisation. they've already proven themselves extremely dangerous.
Especially for the Asari. The all-female race is at the top of their conquest list. These Blue Suns might not be part of the Empire anymore. But they still share their ideals.
The Asari and Turians noticed that. The Imperial renegades went on a conquering spree. Stealing ships, gaining followers, and then launching a massive raid.
The philosophy of conquest is part of their blood.
"Then the operation has not ended?" The Asari asked hopefully. They want these Blue Cosmos gone and exterminated, purged, erased from the face of the Milky Way.
"Not at all. I already contacted my father; I am getting an armada, and even more…" Trajan looked at his messages.
He is in contact with his siblings. More specifically, the Exploration ones. The Prince is trying to get hold of Prince Julian.
The 1st Prince is well aware that Prince Julian served under the 2nd Prince and was influenced by him. So he is certain that Julian ir more than interested in helping the beauties in need.
"One of my siblings could join us. The Empire will not allow these filthy lunatics to continue to exist. That much you can be assured of."
Sadly for Prince Trajan, his war with Blue Suns is only the beginning of something that will go on for many years to come.
After all, the renegades will continue to appear, and they will want to get into Blue Suns, and the Blue Suns will continue to exist on the fringes of wild space.
Especially in Terminus systems and Attican Traverse, where tracking them is quite hard. On top of all that…
There are Geth and the Reaper Vanguard somewhere out there, plotting an invasion.
"Good to hear. The Asari will assist you in your efforts."
"Same with Turians. I am certain that Patriarch Fedorian will be behind you in this. Plus, they have to answer for the crimes that they did against the Turian Hierarchy." The Turians and Asari are 100% with Trajan.
And, funny enough, the Salarians will soon join, as they feel left out.
~~~

Months will pass until, in Carthage, the Imperial Trade World, a situation arises. Marrybell and Yue would launch joint operations to get rid of the criminal underworld that appears from time to time.

Using their retinues, the Empress and a Princess would double-team the aliens trying to establish themselves.

As soldiers and military police rushed into a warehouse, a gunfight would start.

"What the…" The soldier went to cover, barely making it when a blue beam passed close to him.

Pink beams clashed with eezo-powered blue beams as the criminals revealed they had Blue Sun beam weaponry.

"Your Majesty, the criminals have military-grade weapons: Blue Sun beam rifles." The officer contacted Empress Marrybell, who was overseeing the battlefield from her flagship in orbit.

'This is just fantastic; we are about to turn on two other orbital elevators and connect this world to our network, yet we can't deal with stupid crime! Damn those aliens and their soft hearts.' The brown-haired Empress clenched her fist as she looked at her Knight.

"Go. Deal with them, kill them all, if need be. I won't have this as a stain on my resume just because Asari can't harden their hearts."

"As you wish, Empress." Oldrin turned around and walked away. Taking the lift to the hangar where she would take a power armour. A mobile suit, even a knightmare, will be overkill.

So a Marine-type suit will be perfect for the knight.

Before long, a red power armour dropped from orbit.

"Shit! They are deploying the marines!" Turian criminal screamed as he opened fire with the Blue Suns' beam rifle at the newly landed Power armours.

Thanks to the Blue Suns, beam technology is rapidly advancing and spreading through the galaxy. While not GN particle-powered, it uses the second-best thing: Mass Effect fields to generate similar effects.

Blue beams rushed towards the marines, but green and blue particle fields manifested and tanked all of the attacks.

"Shit! What are those!"

"Your kind is a disgrace to your people! Drop your guns, and you might be spared!" A righteous female voice came from the leading power suit. It was a red one.

"Damn! Look at the markings! It's Oldrin Anaheim!"

"Anaheim!? Are you kidding me! No one pays me to fight the Royals!" Some of the criminals dropped their guns and started running away.

While others, a bit more courageous and insane, continued to fight with reckless abandon.

'They can't be serious…' Oldrin thought, slightly deadpanning as she pointed her beam rifle and shot once.

The beam from a three-metre-tall suit was twice as powerful in such a cramped place; it's almost like an artillery shot.

The criminals had no chance, as it was a bloodbath.

'Where did these lowlifes get the idea that they can survive in an Imperial world?' Oldrin was, by all means and purpose, utterly shocked that some sort of criminals had an idea that they had a chance to win a gunfight in an Imperial world.

'No doubt these aliens gave them a feeling that they had a chance. Influence from an outsider.' The blonde knight frowned as she switched from beam rifle to beam blades and moved in to slaughter at close range.

Removing whatever is left.

Before long, the cleanup crew and officers arrived to investigate; with them came Governor Princess Yue and Empress Marrybell.

"Blue Suns… great. They are even here." Yue sighed in annoyance as she saw the weapons.

Over the months, Blue Suns is slowly growing in power and influence.

They learned the laws and how to skirt around them, especially in Citadel Space. While they are afraid of the Empire and have never faced them again on the open battlefield, the same can't be said about the Turians, Asari and the pirates in the Terminus systems.

These renegades no longer appear in front of the Imperials, but they work through a middleman, usually an Asari, who is under their complete control.

Not only that, but they got their hands on a Turian Raptor.

After initial tests and a bit of field runs, the Raptors were improved and released as M-2 Raptors, fully Turian-made knightmares.

These were swiftly deployed to the fringe Turian and Asari worlds where Blue Suns got their hands on them.

By the time the joint fleet arrived, the Blue Suns, the Turians, and the raptor were gone.

"This is not a makeshift weapon anymore." Yue picked up a weapon from a crate.

"...Elkoss Combine." The Princess of Trade commented as she inspected the craftsmanship.

"Isn't it a Volus-run company?" Marrybell frowned as she was ready to lay siege to the Turian client race.

"Don't conclude so easily. It's not a simple yes or no. It's all about credits, Mother Marrybell." Yue clarified before the Empress of Justice jumped to the conclusion.

"Ugh…Mercantile class. Why can't you be as simple as the rest of the Empire?" Brown-haired Empress massaged her forehead as she felt an incoming migraine.

"It is simple. Just think what is profitable."

"...That is even worse." Marrybell grimaced as she looked at the rifles. "At least we know that Volus made them. We can sick our diplomacy department on them."

"I am more concerned with the fact that Alien weapons are in our space." Yue was more focused on the fact that alien beam rifles were in her world.

"Blue Suns are getting bolder, and we still can't find that scum Vido." The Empress of Justice frowned in disgust.

"Empress, Princess, we have found the middleman. It's an Asari civilian who went missing." Officers walked over as they showed images of an Asari in blue armour.

"Of course it's a missing person. That's how Blue Suns works." Marrybell frowned as she looked at the logs.

"Damn it all." She frowned as she realised that it was an empty lead after checking the records. Trying to get anything from the person directly is impossible, as their mind is a scrambled mess.

"I am tired of this! Contact Daphne! I want a meeting with the councillors!"

"...Umm…what are you planning to do?" Yue asked; she was getting a bit concerned.

"To put my foot down! They either allow us to do what we need to stop that scum, or we are pulling away and stopping this charity!" Marrybell has lost her cool. Yue doesn't know it, but long ago the Empress lost her mother and sister to terrorists. It's one of the reasons why she is Empress of Justice. Her husband gave her this department because of that.

She is a perfect exterminator of terrorism and criminals, and at this moment she is very close to snapping and simply doing what needs to be done.

Or simply pulling back and focusing purely on Imperial territories.

"...Understood. Then will continue with the Volus lead." Yue got nervous seeing pure rage on the Empress's face.

'They are really pulling her nerves.'

"Yes, continue, and if need be, make them squirm. They always reminded me of those fat and useless nobles from the old days."

"..." Yue wanted to comment that she had never seen them, as it was ancient history by the time she was born, but she kept her tongue and said nothing.

~~~
With that said, Marrybell's ship, Justice, arrived in Unity, and she swiftly took a shuttle to the Citadel Capital City, where a large tower is built in the city centre. This is Citadel Tower and the chambers of the Citadel Council.
"I got your message. From the looks of it, it's urgent." Daphne looked nervous as she saw Marrybell's gaze.
"Tell the Councillors to gather; I want to speak with them. I am tired of this nonsense!"
"Umm… what happened?" The Pinkette Diplomat Princess looked even more nervous.
"Blue Suns beam rifles in Carthage. They used our world as a storage unit for this part of the galaxy! Can you imagine? They are mocking our security!" The brown-haired Empress explained in an angry tone.
"...That's…"
"So call them, or you forget that when it reaches such a point it becomes part of my sphere of influence, hmm?" Marrybell reminded her that she could take action even if the Emperor were not here.
"R-Right…"
Moments later, Daphne made her calls.
Less than half an hour later, the Councillors were in Daphne's office.
"I will keep this short." The brown-haired Empress started her speech. "In Carthage we discovered caches of Blue Sun weapons. They were imported through your side of the transportation hub.
These weapons were not some cheap handmade toys we used to find. But made by Elkoss Combine.
In other words, Blue Suns are getting more and more sophisticated, and they are using your side to leak into the Empire.
When that happens, I am taking over and doing what needs to be done.
You either allow us to do what needs to be done to find Vido, or I am pulling the Empire from your space." The Empress of Justice dropped the bombshell.
"...Empress… we need to discuss with the republics to decide. It's not that simple." Tevos looked the most nervous. There is literally an Armada of Imperial Ships that is keeping Asari fringe systems safe from Terminus and Attican Traverse, where Blue Cosmos set up their operations.
Those guys are literally hunting Asari like some sort of game.
"That's your job, then do so. But as I am saying. My job is keeping my Empire secure. You need to improve your security system.
The Empire can provide stronger means, or you can allow us to scan goods on your side of Carthage." Marrybell gave her ultimatum.
Tevos looked at Sparatus and the Salarian Councillor.
"Then…is there a way to minimise the impact?"
"Hmm…" For a second, the Empress of Justice pondered before realising an easy solution.
"Send the goods to the gas giant depot. We will be the ones who distribute them then. We should have done it from the very beginning."
"Very well. Then we shall instruct our traders." The Asari Councillor nodded.
Soon enough, the meeting ended, and Marrybell ended up leaning into her soft chair, massaging her temples.
"This is getting frustrating… now I know why my father never bothered much with trade." The Empress complained.
"You never spoke about your father. Who was he?" Daphne asked curiously.
"..." The brown-haired lady was about to comment, but then she recalled something.
"...Let's just say he was very annoying. But some of his ideas were right on the spot." Marrybell vaguely explained as she looked at Oldrin, who was looking back at her with amusement.
'Not amusing!'
"Funny, that's what my mother usually says when I bring up conversation about my grandparents." The Pinkette Princess giggled for a second.
"Well, they died long ago. That's what happens to people who are not Innovators." Marrybell concluded. It's ancient history; no need to dig there.
"True, it still boggles my mind that people used to live on a single planet, that they lived there for thousands of years.
Isn't it just too little space? I guess Papa realised that quickly as he started building space colonies first, then colonising other worlds after advancing in terraforming." Daphne commented that, as someone born when colonisation truly started, she didn't see life on a single world.
Unlike Trajan, Claudia and Julia, who lived most of their early childhood on a single world. Daphne IS the first true-born Innovator, born in the true space age.
"Yes, Marcus is just like that. That is why we must make sure we succeed; you don't want him to come here and solve this issue, do you?
It's embarrassing." Marrybell groaned in annoyance. Imagine relying solely on her husband. It makes her feel pathetic.
"...True, that is why I am doing some light touch moving," Daphne replied as she was at her desk doing some work.
"I have approved a couple of Mother Mei requests and allowed expansion of the border check at the Guardian."
The Guardian is the Gas Giant in the Citadel System where the new Citadel capital is. It's where the linear railway is and is the harbour world.
The Empire's trade system... The harbour and linear train travel have fascinated the aliens, mostly because of the sheer volume of goods they can carry. In a sense, they are trying to adapt and introduce such a system in their nations.
But it's not an easy thing to do.
"So we can do checkups in the Citadel System before they even move into Carthage." Daphne brightly explained to her.
"My, that is a fantastic idea." Marrybell smile. The further these things happen from the Empire, the better she can feel about it!
~~~

Blue Sun's action caused an immediate Empire's reaction. That is the new Galactic standard, with the aliens in between as collateral damage.

The renegades saw the Galaxy and the Aliens as free pickings for their entertainment—especially the Asari.

But as time went on and the newcomers adjusted, they started to learn and improve.

One of the things they started adding to their ranks was the Krogan for the muscle and the Vorcha for the shock-trooper effect.

Both of these races were 'lesser' for the Blue Suns, as they saw them as nothing more than expendable bodies to expand their domination over the Attican Traverse and the Terminus systems.

"WAGHHHH!!!" A Krogan in red armour was rushing into a blue-armoured group of men.

"WE ARE THE KROGAN!!!" The reptilian screamed as he was about to use his shotgun, but multiple Asari used their biotics to pin the Krogan down.

"If you think this can hold me down, pijak, then you are—" The Krogan, with a pissed-off tone, resisted the biotics trying to overpower him.

"Don't even think. You are nothing more than a brute that is useful for breaking things. That's all there is to it." Vido, who Asari Matriarch followed, walked over; he didn't look as impressed anymore.

By this point, he had adjusted to the wild space and saw all of it as nothing more than loot for him to pick up.

"I will kill you— Aghhhhh!!! Get out of my head!!!" The Krogan roared with pain as he felt like someone was stabbing his head with an iron rod.

"Shhh, it will be over soon enough," Vido smirked as lightning ran through his eyes.

After a while, the Krogan had a blank look in his eyes.

'Pathetic, the stronger they are in body, the more susceptible they are to their instincts and nature.' The Blue Suns leader snorted in disgust. He finds these brutes disgusting but useful as shock troopers and meat shields.

"This one is done. How about the others?" Vido looked around at his followers who had similar situations.

Krogans and their Vorcha getting 'recruited' by Blue Suns.

These guys are also known as the 'Blood Pack'—one of the major mercenary groups in Terminus systems. But unlike Eclipse, who are staying away from Blue Suns, these morons tried to pick a fight with them.

Apparently, Blue Suns are getting close to their turf.

Whatever it was, Vido didn't care. The only territory that he acknowledges is the Imperial one, as that one at least 'works'. Hundreds of warships lined up make a good indicator of a border.

"We are getting there. This exchange brought us over 25 Krogans." The 2nd in command explained as he walked over to Vido's side.

"Good enough. We should return to our task at hand. How is the reverse engineering of that Raptor going?" The Leader of Blue Suns could not wait to have mobile suits of his own.

"Oh, that one." The Commando snorted. "They used a civilian frame as a reference to build this thing. We used to make these in high school. Engineering assignments."

"Right, you went to engineering." Vido nodded, but then he realised something.

"...So how is it?"

"They successfully converted an Eezo energy source to work on this frame, but they even lack a basic Yggdrasil engine."

"So?" Vido rolled his eyes. He was getting annoyed with these engineering nerds.

"We can easily produce these. In fact, we can make these with scraps of Sakuradite we are finding over the Attican Traverse."

"...can you make a Yggdrasil engine?" The Blue Suns boss finally asked what was on his mind.

"Are you kidding me? I played for my high school and college. These things are easy; I can make them with both of my hands behind my back," the 2nd in command bragged. He was part of the Knightmare Football team, after all!

"...right. The Empire didn't even share the tech they use to make football knightmares. That is sad."

"Better for us. We can get more of these and finally invade Thessia." The engineering Blue Sun licked his lips as he looked at the Asari.

"Hah. Fair enough. Though it's going to be risky." Vido wasn't sure. The Empire's movements recently are strange; they are simply holding the line in Athena's Nebula.

It's like the Imperials don't care about Blue Suns anymore.

"Risky how? We haven't had an Imperial raid in weeks. Not to mention we are thousands of light-years away from Citadel Space."

They were literally on the northwestern side of the galaxy 'recruiting' mercenaries. Soon enough, they will have enough minions to start producing weapons en masse. Elkoss Combine, which they 'recruited', will help them in that regard.

"That's the thing. I want to know why there were no raids. Once know, we can adjust to that and make a move." Vido crossed his arms as he looked at the Krogan, then at the Vorcha.

"Hmm, Vorcha did mention that they have a pink substance and their planet is extremely volcanic…"

"...You mean to say that their planet is full of Sakuradite?" The 2nd in Command realised that as well.

"Worth a shot. If we can start producing that stuff, we could dominate these lesser species." Vido shrugged; besides, controlling Vorcha is the easiest thing for an Imperial. Those things are primitive; they don't even have a unified government. As long as they don't have that, they won't be accepted on the galactic stage, and instead they will be exploited like the Krogans and the mercenary groups do.

~~~
And Vido was not wrong in his assessment of the current situation. The Empire and Turians are using the war against the Blue Suns to test Raptors or run Imperial-Turian coordinated assaults. The Emperor even insisted that they do that. One of the Imperial objectives is to assimilate Turians into the Empire.
Which is going splendidly. Turian fringe worlds close to the Petra Cluster are periodically asking for direct trade routes with the Empire, even if there is no direct Mass Relay. They request that the Empire build their highways into the Aethon Cluster.
Now, none of that will happen anytime soon, but if the conversation is there, it means the Turians want Imperial rule more than the Hierarchy's, and that says something.
And that desire only kept growing as the time went on.
"Where is my favourite niece?" Trajan poked his head into the hangar where the armoury and Power suits were located.
"What is it, uncle?" Jane groaned when she heard her Uncle's teasing tone; she stopped tinkering with her rifle and looked at him.
"Nothing major… only… that it's your birthday!" The 1st Prince pulled out a cylinder, and it exploded in all sorts of colourful papers and strings right on the red-haired girl.
"...Really? You brought that to the hangar?" The girl removed the paper confetti from her hair and looked at the blonde uncle, annoyed.
The Turians not far from her snorted and laughed in amusement at what they just saw.
The 1st Prince shrugged before starting to grin.
"We are taking a break. You do realise that it's your eighteenth birthday, right?" Trajan reminded her of that.
"...Right… we are counting standard Terra time? Because that stuff can be confusing." The girl massaged her forehead. She recalled that she was born on Venus, and that planet has different time, months, and all that stuff.
"Don't bother with Venus nonsense. It's the women over there who want to feel younger." Trajan nonchalantly exclaimed.
But Jane deadpanned at him.
"Last time I checked, Venus's year is shorter than Terra's." The girl clarified in an annoyed tone.
"So you want to feel older?" The Prince countered with a hard fact that women don't like.
"Ugh! Fine! Terra's years it is then!" Jane rubbed her head; this stuff was confusing!
"Good, then we are going to World of Anaheim." All of a sudden, Trajan declared to her.
"W-Wait, then what about our war with Blue Suns?" The girl exclaimed, worried about the Asari.
"Your birthday is far more important than this war. The Asari don't want to budge on their ideals, so there is no reason for us to try that hard for them.
Besides, father has plans for you." Trajan smirked at her, making the girl shiver.
"Oh, and you guys are coming with us. It's a tradition in the Empire to celebrate birthdays with family and friends." The 1st Prince smiled as he looked at the squad of Turians that served on the White Unicorn well over the year.
"We won't decline such an invitation, Your Highness." Garrus saluted while replying; the other Turians joined.
"Good, then, Legion, tell the captain to set course for World of Anaheim."
[Very well. Oh, and there is a message from the Emperor, but the way it's worded sounds more like your mother.]
"...What does she say?" Trajan looked worried; what could she want now?
[I will quote this: 'Get your ass back to the Empire.' End quote.]
"Pfff, hahahaha, that does sound like Empress Leila." Jane laughed at the Prince's expense.
The Turians tried hard not to laugh as well.
"Very funny." The 1st Prince deadpanned. 'Damn it, mother! I do not doubt that my staff read through that message if it went through official channels!'
"Regardless, we are going back to the Empire. You can start fixing yourself up. It will take a good five hours or so."
"Should be quicker if we take the route through Unity and into Carthage." Jane reminded him that the Citadel space got a bit of Imperial infrastructure now.
"Maybe. Though the Citadel doesn't like that place to have literal traffic; it's that busy now." Trajan shrugged; he wasn't in a hurry. He needs to get back today, but there is no exact time for their arrival.
"Right, and I thought you wanted to return to the Empire as soon as possible." Jane crossed her arms and looked at him.
"Not THAT literally." He snorted before waving his hand and walking back to the bridge. He needs to prepare for a possible 'mother's assault'.
