Chapter 425: There she was
Chapter 425 — There she was
While the girls were wondering just what happened, Swindler was already walking towards the teleportation center to go back to the Academy.
He was quite satisfied by the day, and thanked inwardly that he had been given permission to gamble by his captain.
’Even though I admit I did more than necessary.’ He chuckled, ’but it’s alright. No one will complain if no one knows. And besides, the Captain would say nothing to me if he learns that I have fooled the little Cassius.’
[You could have killed him, stupid idiot! Killed him!] Loki said, [And don’t tell me it’s dangerous. You could have used your Soulblade and my Blessing. It would have been enough to cut down his cock!]
’You are the stupid one here, Loki.’ Swindler shook his head, his wild brown hair falling over his face, giving him a rather strange but interesting look, ’We are in Vorn City. Who in the Loki’s tiny cock would touch a Desdemona without preparation? And do not forget that even with all our preparations, the bastard survived not one time but Two times. Two times! And you know what those suckers of cock say?’
[Never Two without a Third.]
’Yeah, now do what you usually do in your free time and shut up.’
[I will curse you one day.]
’Please, I beg you, do it.’ Swindler said, almost too eagerly, ’I am way too good. It’s getting boring to always succeed in swindling these fools.’
[Then start—!]
’Nope, thank you. I want difficulties, not death.’ He cut off his god, making Loki look at his Blessed with the urge to cut his cock.
Swindler didn’t care much about what his god was thinking. He tucked his hands inside his pockets, and walked calmly through the throng of people around him, his direction being the building looming just a couple of hundred steps from him.
He was thinking about all the lies he would need to give to the Academy in order for them to leave him alone.
It would not be easy, but as a fifth year student, he had more freedom than any younger students.
However, the only annoying thing — that one thing that gave him the urge to cut the cock of some people — was his Palatine.
The Fifth year’s Palatine, Ciel Driany History.
That woman was annoying to fucking death, and she was the one who had the most chance to realize his true strength.
That would be problematic. He wanted a lovely, peaceful academy life. And that was exactly why he had decided to integrate the Academy despite having no need for it.
His life in the Dragon Hunters was already hectic enough.
Yet it was not only Ciel, unfortunately. There was also that damn Blossom Bishop.
For Blossom, it was only because he loved to gamble at her mother’s casinos. And knowing how many times he had been banned by them, it was no wonder she would start suspecting something about him.
He should have stopped gambling at those casinos then, but say something about Swindler, say he became a fool’s fool when gambling was involved.
’Loki’s cock, I am tired of these two.’ He sighed. ’Let’s end this year so that I can get out of this Academy, finally.’
He was thinking, after his last year, instead of integrating the Armies of Death or any big Family as High ranking Guard, of begging Rose Bishop to take him as a simple worker in one of her Casinos.
He would then gamble, flirt with women, swindle some stupid people, then sometimes train to get stronger.
The perfect life.
But of course...
’Swindler, my son.’
Swindler’s body froze for a moment, all his muscles tensing dangerously, before he continued his way as if nothing happened.
However, the way he was walking had now changed, his initial leisurely pace replaced by a purposeful one.
Swindler didn’t say anything at the flat, emotionless voice inside his mind, and knew that this was The Master talking.
And when The Master even talked in this way, it meant He didn’t want a conversation.
So Swindler listened, silent as a corpse.
’I have allowed you to not get close to the little dragon, because you didn’t want to. No more, my son. No more. Get close to him.’ The Master ordered, voice so inhuman each of his words made Swindler tense, ’Know all you can about him no matter the way. If an opportunity arises, and you can capture him, do it. If you can’t, but instead can kill him, do it.’
The Master paused, then added as if it was an afterthought, ’And yes, Joykiller is dead. Killer: Isolde Amaris. If you can capture her, do it. If not, kill her.’
Then The Master’s voice disappeared, with it, his overwhelming wrong presence.
Just at that point, Swindler had reached the teleportation center, and he laughed:
’Things are getting nasty. As nasty as Loki’s tiny cock.’
He laughed again.
’Time to get the little dragon.’
...
"Is this a joke?" Cassius said to himself, lips twitching, his eyes fixed on the earring inside his hand.
He had run all over Vorn City to find it, and during all that time, he couldn’t help but think that the gambler had done all of this only to piss him off.
And the man had fucking succeeded.
’You better pray I don’t find you again.’ Cassius hissed inside his mind, profoundly annoyed, and that in a way he rarely was.
It was the first time a total stranger made him act in such a way, and he didn’t like the feeling of being played.
He sighed, trying to control his anger, sensing the dead silence of his goddesses, not knowing whether they were trying to stop themselves from laughing or crying.
Maybe both. And that only spoiled his mood even more.
He cleaned the earring for the nth time, and looked if there was anything wrong with it. Seeing nothing, he still asked his goddesses to be sure.
After gaining another confirmation, he put it on his ear, and looked around.
Cassius had found himself in a very niche corner of Vorn City. A spot filled with trees and grass and small flowers born through the power of Aspects.
There was nothing besides that, and he could see a few people sitting on it, their faces looking at the glowering sun, enjoying its warm light.
It was peaceful.
And it was the perfect time and place for a picnic, Cassius suddenly thought, and that thought made him remember his wife.
However, still not receiving any messages or calls from her made the recalling quite painful.
’This is so annoying.’ Cassius thought as he walked towards a big green tree with leaves so wide they hid the sun overhead.
The big tree birthed shadows that spilled across the ground, feeling cool and comfortable.
Reaching it, Cassius sat underneath the tree, and enjoyed the peaceful breeze of wind that ruffled his hair.
Tired of tying it down, he let his hair loose, which made some strands of his immaculate white hair fall over his face in such beautiful fashion it was hard to look away.
He closed his eyes, trying to think of nothing, except how he should prepare his wedding and how to send the invitations.
He was thinking of creating birds made of his blood and making them the very invitations. Meaning, each invited guest would come with the bird.
That would create a nice theme.
"But I don’t know if Isolde would like that?" Cassius sighed, "This wedding is supposed to be prepared by the two of us. Just where in the hell is she? Should I just go to that Village and see? Maybe she is—"
"—just beside you?"
The world paused for half a second, half a second only, yet the way it paused was total. Overwhelming.
Then Cassius’s eyes snapped wide open at the same time he whirled his attention to his left.
And oh, there she was.
There, just there, a couple of meters away from him, wearing tattered clothes.
There, just there, smiling at him in a way only she could, making his heart feel ready to leap into his throat.
There, just there, her strange purple eyes looking at him in a way that made Cassius realize he had forgotten what it felt like to be looked at like that.
And perhaps he had also forgotten how to speak, because Cassius remained frozen on the spot, refusing even to blink, as though afraid that the slightest movement would reveal this to be nothing more than his mind imposing a dream upon reality.
But it was not a dream.
It was her.
And Cassius knew it with certainty when Isolde crossed the distance between them and took him into her arms.
At that moment, the rest of the world might as well have exploded into oblivion, because Cassius would not have noticed.
Nothing else existed to him except the woman holding him, the warmth of her body, and the words he had waited far too long to hear.
"I am back, Cass."
